2003 corked and caged 750ml green bottle

Hazy, dull straw with a thick and creamy bright white head. Sturdy lacing. Aroma has tart wheat, perfume, soft coriander, medicinal phenols, faint orange peel, lemon, a hint of pear, and buttery, earthy yeast. Very soft and round nose here.

The flavor follows the same character as the aroma, with a softness and lightness which make the alcohol content all but forgettable. Medicinal phenols and soft coriander make themselves comfortable atop a huge base of chunky wheat, with black pepper spiciness and citrus notes (lemon, orange, and pear) making themselves known here and there. Fairly light in body, with a soft and gentle carbonation that lends a lovely creaminess to the mouthfeel. Ends with a warming shot of alcohol, with all of the various flavors in a congenial balance. Yeast pour at the end thickens it up and darkens it a bit. Hefty shot of coriander deep into the aftertaste.

Overall, a very well done ‘double gravity’ wit that would make a great summer refresher, despite its strength.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into tulip glass. Cloudy, light golden straw color, medium carbonation, ½ inch of white head with some lacing that clings to the side. Smell is of orange peel, coriander and some other spices; some banana and bread as well. Taste is a complex but well-balanced mix of the citrus (tart and sweet), wheat and spices. Very slight hops and a twinge of alcohol. Medium-light mouthfeel. Finishes very clean. Overall, a nice example of this style. Would pair well with seafood (this would be great with mussels), white meats, light pasta, veggies, etc.

Pint on tap at Library in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Appearance: Pours a golden straw color with a minimal head that is gone in a hurry. Lacing is almost nonexistent. I'm sort of surprised by how clear this appears because I read that it was unfiltered. It's slightly hazy, but less than I expected.

Aroma: Smells like lemon, citrus, grapefruit, hop bitterness and pine. It's more faint than I'd expected, though.

Taste: This has a sort of odd chalky taste that doesn't really appeal to me. The dominant flavor, however, is lemon. It's okay but I was hoping for a little more citrus and less lemon.

Mouthfeel: The chalkiness is evident in the mouthfeel. Otherwise it's kind of watery.

Overall: I thought this was very average on the whole. It has some appealing qualities but is far from my favorite example of the style. I'm glad I tried it but the mac & cheese I had with it was the star of the meal.

12 oz bottle from beerloserLI, gee weez, man, so far everything you've sent is some great stuff.

Into a mug.

A: hazy yellow colored body with a thin one fingered white foamy head that died within about a minute

S: the almost perfect blessing of coriander spices to a lemon citrus blend that adds a spectacular sweetness and just enough yeastiness to assist in a wonderful spectacular aroma

T: sweet to spicy with the citruses of lemon and orange to exemplify a more than adequate flavoring for an American brewer for a witbier; the aftertaste is slightly spicy and citrusy; the finish is not as dry as expected but still felt dry and quick as I did expect

M: light to medium, fairly sessionable, carbonation is just right for a Witbier and its good to me as well

O: where the hell did thing come from? Are all of the Southampton beers as good as this? Holy Moley, I would love to have this one again and pair it with some seafood. Damn, to me, this has got to be one of the best witbiers I've had by an American brewer. I'd have it again in a heartbeat.

12 oz bottle was poured into a tulip.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger frothy head that reduced to a thin layer and left frothy lacing. It is a hazy pale yellow with some vision of bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: Bready malts, citrus, lemony, spicy, and a little sweetness.

Taste: Bready, vanilla, spices, lemony, orange, a little sweet, and some tartness.

Mouthfeel: A bit chewy, but smooth, medium to high carbonation, refreshing, medium bodied, and a little dry.

Overall: I feel like I have had this one before. Pretty solid and refreshing.
