look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Appearance- Pours up a whole bunch of head which looks to have pretty good retention as well. The head is a medium to dark beige while the body is an opaque, dark chocolate black. Some spots of lacing and some rings as well.

Nose- As with many coffee stouts, the aroma is pretty much a one-trick pony. Coffee, coffee, and more coffee. It is pretty good smelling coffee though. Slight notes of sourness and slight fruitiness around the edges but this is minor. Swirl and there's more coffee. It think you get my drift.

Taste- Very reflective of the nose- the flavor profile is pretty much all coffee. Some fruitiness and sourness on the finish but this seems to come from the coffee and works well with the overall profile. This is a really good coffee stout but it's a little one dimensional. Great presence, balance, and integration- it simply lacks the complexity I desire. Still, a good beer that has no real flaws and flirts with being really good. Some chalk to a pretty dry finish. Very effective beer which seems to benefit from the basic idea of brewing a good stout and then adding top notch coffee to form a basically flawless and very tasty beer. These won't ever be must have beers for me but I will still drink and enjoy them.

Mouthfeel- Medium to heavy bodied with a good amount of syrup to the texture. Very light carbonation highlights this aspect even more. Bit of a dry finish.

Drinkability- Drinks like easygoing, alcoholic coffee. Doesn't have much to offer as far as other flavor notes but the coffee is pretty good and is fairly complex on its own. Just over 4 bucks a bomber makes this a pretty good buy. I would buy this again if I were the mood for a straight up, cheap coffee stout.

Overall- Good to really good, but closer to good. Doesn't innovate the style; it's simply a solid coffee stout. I would definitely give this a try. This will probably be a repurchase.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew snifter. Pours pitch black, opaque in the glass with a thin, light brown head that maintains a thin film and ring around the glass, leaving light lacing. Nice aroma of sweet toasted malt and quality coffee, light cocoa. Flavor is brewed coffee, toaste malt with light char, mild cocoa. Light to medium bodied. A nice coffee stout, with the coffee being its best feature, very inviting on the aroma and maintaining through the taste. The malt body is not quite as substantial as hoped to support the coffee flavors, leaving the coffee slightly stark on the finish. The coffee and malt char play well against each other. Except for a somewhat thin body, a well balanced and enjoyable coffee stout.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with a decent off-white head. Medium collar. Some transparency at the edges.

Smell - Coffee. Lots of coffee. A hint of creamy sweetness behind the coffee.

Taste - And it's all coffee. Bitter coffee. Slight bit of milk chocolate, but it's really just coffee.

Mouthfeel - Medium light. Bitter. Well carbonated, too much, really.

Overall - It's all coffee. If that's your thing, I guess it's good, but I'd just order an iced coffee instead.

Head is rich, fluffy and porous. Deep brown like milk chocolate color on the head, beer is black. First drink I get an immediate rush of coffee followed by a milky slightly malt aftertaste. Very slight coat on the teeth with a dry finish. As the beer is getting warmer I get hints of chocolate and less milk, and has gained a more chewy texture. Very flavorful, I would certainly go for this again.

650ml bottle poured into a Goose Island Stout Fest '13 Mini Pint Glass.

The beer pours a deep jet black color, touches of cola brown with a thick yet fluffy khaki head that has good retention but leaves no lacing behind. The aroma is super coffee forward, mild roast and lightly fruity, with some chocolate and almost some milky aromas, very nice expression of coffee. The taste however is a bit of a weak spot, lots of roasted coffee, but quickly it turns to light cocoa mix and watered down milk with some sweet coffee malt at the finish. The body is light, thin and a bit watery that finishes with a carbonated bite.

Verdict: A decent American Stout from Laurelwood, the aroma is wonderful, but the flavors and body really leave something to be desired. I would find it very difficult to drink an entire bomber solo, good thing I was able to share this multiple ways.
