On tap at the PDX location.
The beer pours an attractive golden amber color with good head retention and considerable sticky lacing. As one expects from the folks at Laurelwood, the nose is all hoppy goodness, showing citrus, wet tobacco and white pepper. On the palate, it's apparent right off the bat that Laurelwood has another winner with this pale ale. While nicely balanced, this beer is a bit drier than say SNPA, with a much more prominent hoppy profile. There's enough malty sweetness to brace up the hoppy bitterness, but no more than that. The beer finishes with a lovely hoppy, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, and I'm impressed by the amount of flavor this 5.5% abv. pale ale delivers. The finish is clean, bitter and refreshing. Drinkabiity is exceptional. The alcohol is not at all noticeable and is integrated perfectly into the flavor profile.
This is just a perfect pale ale for drinking on a warm summer day, or any time else for that matter. Easily the best pale ale I've encountered in some time, and likely one of the best ever. Would not have even sampled this beer, but for the fact the PDX pub was out of the Hop Monkey. I'm now very, very glad they were out of that beer, leading me to give this one a try instead. Excellent stuff!
