The beer is a coppery red color that is brilliantly clear and has a froathy low head. The aroma is earthy and fruity from the hops and has a pepper spiciness from the yeast. The flavor is lightly sweet with crystal malts. It then moves to a pale graininess and a citrus rind hop bitterness. Creamy on the pallet with a dry hop finish. This is one of the enduring staples of the Portland beer scene.

I purchased this at Barley Mow, poured chilled from the 12oz into a willybecker chilled.

The color is deep crimson with slight haze and 3 finger ecru head with varying sized beads with suspended floating matter and great retention with thick lace sticking with visible carbonation throughout. The smell has a strong malt odor with floral hop scent and slight berry-like yeast ester with an almost meaty malt toasted woody aroma slightly citrus hop accent. The feel has a semi-thick body with light fruity texture and slight sweet middle with mild sweetness and slight toastiness.

The taste has a great malt quality and citrus tropical juicy hop flavor with light malt sweetness and raw hop bitterness with semi dry finish. It seems to have more balance directly after the pour and as it warms the bitterness becomes more apparent. This is a very good red ale with nice hop flavor and light fruit from the yeast coming through in the flavor with ruby red type hoppy yet quaffable taste-pairs well with blue corn chips and guacamole

Poured with great clarity in to a imperial nonic a rich bronze with a very well difined clingy one finger slightly off white head that never really ever fades.Aromas of caramel malt,a tinge of hard water, and leafy hop,not in your face but nice.A well rounded palate, toasty with caramel and some stone fruit up front, the hops are more herbal and leafy in the finish.A solid red here, decent hop presence and well toasted.

Picked up a growler tonight and wasn't disappointed. Pours a reddish amber hue topped by an inch or so of sticky off-white head. Appealing, well-balanced aroma of slightly roasted sweet grain and mildly fruity hops, along with a mild astringency. Palate is more of the same - well-balanced, with an astringent, malty aftertaste. Medium, slightly creamy body holds the flavor very well. About as drinkable as any beer I've had recently, this is a wonderful session beer. Good work, Laurelwood.

On tap at Laurelwood in PDX. Part of a taster tray.

A finger white head, deep copper body. Some lacing.

Sweet malt and honey on the nose.

Big nutty malt flavor, leafy/grassy hop finish.

A bit foamy.

Decent red, almost a light nut-brown with more hops.

Great RED!

Being a local Portlander... I was waiting a long time to see a great Red. Always drinking Weinhards red when I was in a Weinhards kind of mood... this one stands out. Not a basic Red by any means.

Laurelwood amazes me with the brews. Where did they find the Brewmasters?

The color is rich and bold.. makes a statement. Makes you say "Oh boy, here it goes, a real Red".

Rich flavor, sweet but not overpowering. Laurelwood does like to make everything a bit on the rich side... but how do you make your unique notes really stand out?

Leaves my mouth a bit dry, but a sample beer platter works great after this with some friends.

Pours red with a good sized head. Plentiful amount of lacings. Nice hoppy aroma.
Taste is sweet malts with a nice bitter hop component to help reduce the overall sweetness.
Mouthfeel is just right for the style.
Drinkability is very good considering the 6.1% abv. Very tasty red ale. Not the biggest red I've had but very near the top of the short list of exceptional ones. Will have to try this on tap sometime.
