Laurelwood has been great on multiple occasions for me. I love going there with a close friend, or a group. I've also purchased a keg there in the past, at the last minute for a friends party…and afterward, it was such a hit that I had to go back. I usually go for a tree hugger or space stout, but love to try whatever is new!

The service is always great there, the people seem light-hearted and happy to be there. The food is awesome (my personal favorite the pulled pork sandwich, and their amazing cheesy garlicky fries!), and they have some really rocking apparel to get on your way out. I love this place so much, and am happy to see the two locations in the Portland Airport now…I take some back east with me every time I fly! Too bad I haven't been able to crack open a growler on the plane ;)

Thanks for being one of my very favorites!

A nice little local brewpub that has a decent bar food menu. The place is obviously a brewery, but seems open to family dining in off-hours.

The beer selection is heavy on IPAs and hoppy brews, though the beers that didn't fit this description were decent enough. Hoppy offerings were mostly in the good in a standard way. The flagship IPA was actually quite decent, however.

Service was adequately attentive in the restaurant side, but like the beers, didn't seem to try to wow you.

Overall, a nice enough place to grab a decent beer and some tasty food, given out visit. We went to the place pre-happy hour, so I cannot speak to the vibe on a weekend night, though it seems like a decent neighborhood joint.

Not your average dimly lighted dark decor sports bar, or concrete floor with picnic tables brewery, the Laurelwood is lovely warmly woody-walled in light pine, comfortably casual, and well-appointed with flatscreen tvs and cushioned booths as well as barstools, a fairly spacious place, brightly lit, with plenty of seating. It appeals most to the well-heeled younger hipster crowd casually hanging out, catching up on sports scores and the arts scene.

The staff is very friendly and I was impressed that they had no qualms about offering smaller beer sizes, from samples to 4 oz, which made tastings easy and affordable without having to purchase a whole flight of six. They also have some quirky humorous beer names which make sampling entertaining. I was struck by "Hipster sunburn Saisson", "Crosby Stills & Nash IPA". and "Tree Hugger Porter". The boards seemed to be focused on ales and IPA's, with some seasonals. But my only complaint would be that the full menu of their beer offerings isn't always available, only the special selections on their chalkboards... there were no imperial IPA's, imperial stouts, or barleywines available when I stopped by, that I was aware of. Although I'd say their selection is possibly more varied and adventurous than McMenamins. I will definitely stop back and try a barleywine next time.

We went for lunch on the way to the airport, after visiting our daughter - 2 1/2 or 3 hours before we had to be at the airport. Not much of a lunch crowd, low-key relaxed atmosphere.
The beer menu was heavy on IPA's, my favorite. I had a Green Elephant which was excellent, plenty hoppy, great flavor.
The lunch menu was uninspiring, perhaps a tad expensive for lunch. We shared an order of nacho's and fish n' chips, which ended up being very good. The single memory that stands out was the - I have to use the term, poor service - from the waitress. As stated at the top, we were not in a hurry, but the length of time between visits to check up on us was amazingly lengthy. I consider myself to be quite patient (seriously), but it seemed like fifteen to twenty minutes between walk-bye's, and of those appearances, she only glanced at our table half the time.

This is the second time I have visited this establishment with my wife and two boys. This place was located a few minutes away from the downtown area, closer to older suburbs. The place is very kid friendly. There are a couple of play areas for kids, one in each dining area. The clientele looked like my kind of people, young families. The Workhorse IPA on tap is to die for. The other offerings on draft were decent. The food is good and the staff was nice and helpful. Great value. I enjoy visiting when this place when we come down to Portland.

Stopped by for zwickelmania today. Laurelwood has the feel of an average size pub. While they have a decent restaurant operation inside, they have a packed brewing operation in the back half of the building. I had a pint of workhorse up at the bar, the bartenders there were nice, clearly had some knowlege of beer which I always appreciate. The beers they had on tap were about 8-10 of their regulars plus a 3-4 seasonals. Lots of bottles are available to-go. Though I didn't have any food while I was there, I did notice quite a few people eating lunch, so I am guessing the food is decent. I enjoy laurelwood's beers and their location is decent too, I'll likely be heading back in the future.

One thing I loved about this place was the pervasive aroma of wort that filled my nasal cavity before I even walked through the door. Laurelwood is a medium-sized venue, with the bar just adjacent to the brewing area, and lots of table room. Average restauranty, comfort dining atmosphere; no real dismal barfly charm here. Service was pretty slow all around; the bartender was nice enough, but seemingly way in over her head for the crowd she had to attend to, and the staff at the cashier/merch stand were surprisingly inept...but it was all still within a reasonable threshold of tolerance. Beer selection was good, with a decent range of house-brewed options available. Nothing really stood out as extraordinary, but nothing was really bad. Food was good; mainly comfort items on the menu with perhaps just a slight bias towards TexMex. Prices were reasonable. A good stop on our trip, but not necessarily a "beer connoisseur's" paradise.

This seemed to be a popular place, as the lot was full and I had to park blocks away. I bought a flight and most were solid, but the Workhorse IPA might have been the best I tried out of the many I had on the coast. As I type this, I wish I had bought more than two bottles, as they did not last long. Place had a good neighborhood vibe, filled with locals who enjoy a good beer. I didn't have any food and am unsure they have good. The selection was ok, as it seems most if all their choices leaned on the safer side of things. I probably would stop here again... no I would because I would have to get another fresh Workhorse again.

Finally got to check this place out and first off there were a lot fewer kids than I expected for a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Green Elephant, a nice hoppy beer, one of their best imho. The service was reasonable but the food was a bit bland and underseasoned. The building itself was pretty nice to sit in, but was somewhat hard to get to coming from the west. Basically I think they are aiming for a place that is going to be family friendly and offer a standard array of beers to the folks in town who aren't the beer geek crowd. They do a nice job with that. I'll probably go back at some point but I'm not racing to.

Last stop on our two day beer tour of Portland. Nice, clean place, good views of their brewing facility. Service was very nice and very friendly. The staff kept and returned my camera and jacket when I forgot them there (~$500).

They seem happy to give out little samples of their beers, and they have some nice beers. They're into the hoppy brews, but they have some stuff for other interests. Their Auld Battle Axe, for one, is a pretty taste Scotch ale, and Hooligan is also good (both beers my wife ordered).

I had Hop Monkey, which was good, but our waitress gave me a taste of their Workhorse IPA, which was even better. I also tried their Free Range Red, a hoppy organic brew, and I was pleased with that. I was recovering from the day before, so I wasn't totally primed for beer, but I would definitely go back here.

At least in my opinion, I can't really see too many reasons to pick one Laurelwood NE location over another. The public house is a bit larger then then the pizza company, and I didn't see any pizza available on the menu here. Otherwise, the food (both selection and quality) and beer both seem pretty comparable, although typically there are 3 or 4 beers available at one location that aren't available at the other. On this particular day, I believe the public house had the monkey love IPA, along with a couple of other beers that I didn't see at the pizza compary. This place also had the deranger on CO2, while the pizza company only had it on cask (only!?!?). At the pizza company I had the chicken ceaser salad, which was pretty mediocre (though certainly completely edible and enjoyable), while at the public house I had the equally unremarkable beer battered fries. Service was a bit better (and quicker) then at the pizza company, but the atmosphere here was pretty similar to the pizza company. That's to say that it was equally laid back, informal and relaxing.

No complaints about this place.... I was just surprised that it was SOOO similar to the pizza company (considering that they're no more then a half mile from one another).

Love the new restaurant.. and since the recent menu change.. I really love the food as well. Great price.

- Warm NW atmosphere.. wood in the rafters.. basic.. nice view of the brewage..

- Loved the service... very polite, there when you needed them. Almost fell in love with one early on filling growlers around 11:00am one morning... but hadn't seen her since.. maybe she fills in and is at the pizza joint usually. Just made for a much more pleasant experience.

Great food selection for all types of eaters... Great taste, great top quality.

Beer is a bit steep... but it's their beer that makes them well known.

Went here for the first time yesterday during Zwicklemania 2009 the brewery was having an open-house. Grabbed a bite to eat first, sitting right next to the door that separates the brewery from the restaurant. My wife and I shared a pulled pork sandwich with fries (awesome) and I had a half pint of one of their seasonals (the Elvis commemorative ESB which was pretty damn scrumptious). While we were waiting for the food to arrive, we made several trips into the brewery to get samples of their 2009 Barleywine, 2007 Bourbon-barrel barleywine, Beer X, Vanilla Porter, and the Espresso Stout. All were exceedingly awesome. They also had chocolate truffles on offer. The Chocolate Cherry Truffles were AMAZING! My wife fell in love with them and said they were the best truffles she has ever tasted (and that says a lot because we lived in Belgium for a year!). We asked the head brewer where they got them. They were made by the brewpub's chef! Definitely, keep your eye out for those! He promised they would make them again.

This is a Portland MUST! Their beers are par-excellence and their food is too. Everyone's tastes differ, but I doubt you'd be disappointed with ANY of their beers, so whichever ones you try, you're good to go.

Speaking of "to go", they also offer pretty much any available beer to take with you. You can even bring in a cornelius keg for a fill (though not the same day and you can only get beers that they are not running low on).
