Dark, vinous and muscular with loads of chocolate, anise and melanoidin aromatics framed in mature dark coffee notes that sail through the long, coating finish. Shows tremendous power, ageing potential and dish versatility.

Enjoyed from a bottle, this imperial stout pours a thick as midnight black with a decent head with a vigorous pour and decent lacing. Nose of inviting chocolate, sweet dark malts, black coffee, rich roasted grains, and alcohol. Flavors are chocolate and dark molasses up front, chocolate to the back and sides, and an overall sweetness that is not cloying in the least. Smooth mouth feel and mild carbonation makes this sipper a winner.
The only shame is that the "one Danish crown given to the atheist society" is not given to a more noble cause like many Abbey ales do.....as in "good works" I.E. THE POOR....not money to people who complain. Overall though I would put this gem up against any imperial stout.

Purchased at Premiere Gourmet in Amherst, NY.

Pours a dark, dark black, with a foamy one inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like licorice, vinous dark fruits, chocolate, and roasted malt.

Tastes quite similar. Great flavors, love stouts that emphasize the dark fruit aspects- almost get a chocolate-covered raisin feel to this one, while some sips give off a black cherry flavor. Tons of chocolate, roasted malt, Hershey’s syrup, a little bit of espresso bitterness, and no alcohol presence, which is nice.

This one is very full bodied, with a creamy mouthfeel, and a lower amount of carbonation. Very drinkable, but you want to sip it anyway because of how rich and decadent it is.

A most excellent stout, I honestly wish it came in a bigger bottle, 22 or 25 oz (it’s 16.9) because of how delicious it is.

500 mL bottle poured into a tulip

A- Black with a three finger mocha head.

S- Dark fruits, licorice, smoky, roasted coffee, chocolate, well balanced.

T- Bittersweet chocolate, some roasted coffee, licorice, some fruits and some nice smokiness, great balance and complexity.

M- Smooth, good carbonation, creamy, full body.

O- A very nice stout, gets even better as it warms, love the smokiness it has, and the chocolate is great too. Can't wait to pick up another bottle.
