I am not a big shandy fan. Most of the lemon beers I have tasted have either been too sweet or too sour.
When had a tasting of this at the store today.

I was very surprised. No, I still dont like shandys', but this Amstel was crisp and clean, nothing too sweet, too sour, too anything. It just was very refreshing and tasted good.

Very surprised by this little gem after being gifted it by a coworker. Very well-balanced, delicious shandy, better than Leinenkugel's best seller and Coors Light's new hat in the ring. This has a pleasing blend of sweetness and sourness that works in its favor and makes it delicious and not too overpowering in its flavors or mouthfeel. Didn't know what to expect from a hazy, less-than-appealing look to it, even through Amstel's green bottle, but definitely considering getting a six pack of this for the season.

Maybe the lightest beer I've ever had. Looks like fizzy lemon juice. Very, very pale. Haze gives it a lemonade look. Really fizzy, at first, then it died down to a barely stable ring of bubbles.

Semi-tart lemon soda nose with malty grain additives. Slight note of aspartame, like a Diet Fanta. The lemon character can be best described as smelling like the reconstituted stuff you get in the green plastic bottle at your local grocery store. No trace of hops. Thin lager trail-offs.

Huh. It's pretty sweet, as lemon soda is a 50/50 ingredient, or so I am to assume. It's very much like a beer soda. Like a lemon malt beverage with a hint of lager. Backend mintiness adds some character, I suppose. Maybe that's a trace of hops? Not likely. Just an off-note from artificial lemon is more probable. Something kind of lime-y going on, too. It's really hard to pinpoint the original lager base, if that is what they used. I'm sure it's an even mix with Amstel Light, but boy does this soda overpower the beer. It's hard to complain with something this easy-breezy. The carbonation doesn't hurt, either. Like a smooth soda pop. Not fizzy, like I was rambling about in the Appearance notes. Tastes like Diet Summertime (that's an expression, please don't try to Google Search a beverage called Diet Summertime). Sugary body is about all of the depth you're going to get. No crimes in the mouthfeel, per se.

It's a shame the alcohol is so low, unless this is for the "recovery people". Doubtful. It's not for the beer enthusiasts, neither. Maybe it's for women? Or lemon soda lovers? Maybe it's not as complicated as all of that. Maybe it's a tasty little number to enjoy before a closing shift. There's something beer-y in here, after all. It's a non-beer beer for those who want a non-beer.

Well shit I never had a beer under 3% before clocking in at around 2% it's more lemonade than beer. Put it in my mixed six pack for shits and giggles.

A - Well it looks like carbonated lemonade what surprised me the most was the head didn't fizz out too quickly. Hazy bright yellow, decent lacing, and looks like lemonade. Check.
S - Well from the bottle I got bright tart lemons in the glass more adjacent lager smells but still a rather sweet lemonade experience.
T - Well it is rather refreshing but the taste comes off muddled with the adjacent lager taste. Slight artificial lemonade flavors and residual sugars highlight.
M - Thankfully it has the body and carbonation of beer with a light to medium body.

Overall I have not had any other Amstel offerings never even seen their most popular beer their bock. I would never drink it again though I would much rather have the Samuel Adams version.
