Zo'n bijzonder biertje is het niet als het etiket doet vermoeden. Wel fijne bitterheid

300ml bottle at Prego Restaurant, Amsterdam (€3.50):
Darker than your average pilsner and sticky-sweet on the way down, this beer was undoubtedly a major improvement on the brewery's flagship offering but at the same time it wasn't anything special and it's not one I'd be likely to order again.

From notes.

Bottle, 300 ml, at home.
3 fingers of white head to start with, soapy in texture. Colour of the beer is very deep gold. uite an activity in the glass. Head has an average retention and it leaves almost no lacing.
Aroma is malty, I can't seem to detect anything else.
Quite sweet and malty taste. Not a bad taste, but it seems malted to the core. Thankgully, some bitterness on the aftertaste.
Medium body, average carbonation, dry on the palate.
Despite its sweetness, this is quite good in general.

Looks ok, with dark golden colour, decent carbonation. Thin head, but leaving an ok lacing in the glass.

Smell of grassy, and also citric and piny, hops. It's good, but waiting a few minutes, most of that is gone, leaving the malts and yeast all on it's own.
Taste is malty and slightly bitter, but mostly malty, with corn dominating, unfortunately.
Watery mouthfeel. the alcohol is detectably sharp.
Overall it's a lager pilsener like most others.

On tap at the 1870 Pub in (Torino) Turin, Italy on or about 6 15 09. Review from notes. Poured into an Amstel 1870 glass.

A Light lager look. Minor hue of brown. Brief head that leaves no lacing.

S Not much but there is what I consider to be a slightly odd grain smell, like a bad batch of yeast or something. I had to smell this one several times to try to experience it.

T Very grainy, barley. After repeated sips it kind of fell into a category of a standard Pilsener. Nothing too exciting here.

M Thin, dissapointing and boring.

D Good I suppose but I will not seek it out again.

Notes: Interesting that the whole pub in Turin is named after this one. I could have chosen something like "Gulden Draak pub" or even "Black Albert Bar" but that is me.

This beer claims to be a fuller version of the normal Amstel pilsner.

Appearance was bright golden/orange color with a small head, just like the pilsner.

Smell is malty and hoppy, just slightly more pronounced than it's pilsner sister.

Taste is malty and hoppy, slightly fruity, but Amstel pilsner also has this fruitiness. It is kind of a German pilsner, slightly sticky and sizzling. O, now I see that it is catagorized as a German pilsner, but this would be too much credit for this beer. Drinkability is good, but for a pilsner this is not very surprising.
