Pretty f'ing bad. Here goes:

A: Light gold, very well carbonated. Leaves a moderate head with some lacing.

S: Well, it's not as corny as American adjunct lagers, but this doesn't mean it's good. In fact, the smell is rather skunky - regardless of how many times I've had this beer, the smell is always skunked. I've given up looking for a fresh bottle. Some wheat and corn, but mostly skunk.

T: Follows the nose, which isn't a good thing.

F: light and well-carbonated. Good.

O: I've honestly never had a fresh bottle. God bless those who find one. (564 characters)

As a guy who prefers high alcohol micro brews and full bodied flavor this is not bad for a light, low alcohol alternative. Better than Bud Light (by miles) and superior to Miller Lite and Coors Light. All you beer snobs who want to hack on it, accept it for what it is a decent resemblance of a real beer in lower calorie and lower alcohol form. (347 characters)

I don't think this beer is awful. It has its place an almost always available low alcohol beer. I would absolutely drink this over Budweiser beers or Coors. (156 characters)

Brilliant clarity with light golden color

A bit adjuncty on the nose, corn, DMS, perhaps slightly skunked, acedylaldahide

Not much to the flavor, DMS, adjunt flavors

Well carbonated and fits the style guidelines

I bought a single out of curiosity. It doesn't suck but it's not something I would buy again either. I would welcome one offered to me, however. (360 characters)

This is a decently brewed light lager. Don't rate it down just because it's not an IPA; rate it against its own comparative brews. Compared to other light lagers, this is a well-balanced, not overly grainy or adjunct-y light lager that is crisp and refreshing. (260 characters)

Canned version
I think this is one the best light beers I've ever had. I don't mind the low ABV, it has a fuller flavor than AAL light beers. I just wish I could find Amstel regular lager here in the US, as I expect it to have a fuller flavor and even more enjoyable. (267 characters)

Amstel Light brewed by Amstel Brouwerij B. V., with an ABV of 3.50% This brew pours out a Light amber color, with a nice white head. It has the look of a light lager. The smell is rich with sweetness. You also pick up on some grains and malts. Nothing bad so far now for the taste , it is mild with flavor. You also pick up on the watery taste in this brew. Not saying that is a bad thing. There is also grains and malts, in the taste of this brew. Amstel Light has a nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering about it. The mouthfeel of Amstel Light is mild, but bold and rich with flavor. I like the taste of this brew. Overall I'm giving Amstel Light a 3.50 out of 5. I would buy this brew again. This brew would go down good on a hot summer day. (763 characters)

This is essentially a Heineken that's light (not to be confused with Heineken Light). I like Heineken quite a bit and this tastes just like it for the most part. Not sure why it's considered awful by so many people on here. (225 characters)

A - Golden, clear, short head.

S - Faint grain. Sour notes.

T - Minimal. Very weak nondescript grain notes. Slight sweetness.

M - Very light on the tongue. Gone before you notice.

O - Meh. I think it is not terrible to drink, but I don't see the point. Almost no flavor, and what is there is not terribly appealing. (325 characters)

12 oz bottle served in pilsner glass.

Appearance: pours a thick, pillowy white head that drops slowly with little to no lacing. Color is clear pale straw with moderate streaming carbonation.
Aroma: surprising bit of aroma for the style. There is a definite breadiness and some grass as well.
Mouthfeel: very light and watery, with a quick, drying finish.
Flavor: mirrors the aroma. Breadiness and some sweetness from the barley, a mild bit of grassy hops.
Overall: for light beers, probably the best I have tried. It actually has flavor and aroma. Essentially tastes like a watered down Euro lager. (599 characters)

From the bottle. Sampled on February 24, 2015.

Kind of surprised I had not reviewed it before now. Medium golden yellow pour with a fuzzy white head that fades back.

The aroma smells of toasted barley malts and a clean, sort of grassy hop note. But thin all around.

The body is thin and watery.

The taste highlights a more grainy character with a clean hop finish. Light beers are light beers are light beers. This one is a little better than some. (456 characters)

Wow and not in a good way. Color is not bad but head fades moments after pouring.
The smell is not pleasant - wet grass and black pepper.
Taste - more grassiness here
Finish is not bad - clean with minty aftertaste.
Overall - It's been around for years so there must be a market for it. (287 characters)

Yet another beer that snobs love to rip on. I tend to like beers that I don't have to chew on, taste like coffee or chocolate or fruit. Amstel Light fits my tastes. A tasty refreshing beer I can drink anytime. This beer does not deserve so many terrible ratings, get over yourselves people. (290 characters)

Essentially this is carbonated water. Also, I shouldn't be forced to review this beer because I gave it low scores.

It should also be noted that this is being reviewed solely for the sake of being a completest. (211 characters)

I was surprised to see how this beer got such low ratings! I think people need to understand that this is a LIGHT beer! There is no way it can compete with a full bodied lager..just no way. BA should start creating classifications for beers to be review.

However, this beer in the light category has no peers..none that I know of anyway...and feel it pretty closely is brewed in accordance with the purity law.

I certainly CAN NOT say that about any of the other light beers we all know of: Miller Light, Bud Light, etc...which is made with corn and GMOs... Amstel Light is real beer...

It maintains a head, decently all the way down, and laces the sides of the glass just like a real beer. It's flavor is pretty typical Euro-Lager, but just a lighter version with less taste. It also can be spoiled by light as well..even more illustrating it's close proximity to the purity law...

Be sure you buy fresh supplies as you would with any import beer that is brewed in accordance with the purity law!

Always remember: 'If it's skunk, it's junk'... (1,057 characters)

I will usually pick this up to serve at parties. I won't serve any of the big 3 light beers, this one at least has real beer pretensions (however limited), and swill drinkers won't complain that there's no "normal" beer if this is in a cooler on the back porch. Not horrible, not great, pretty much right down the middle with perhaps a bit stronger nose (mild skunk) than expected. Thin on the palate, straw color, and limited aftertaste. Amstel is also my preferred golf course beer; it’s available from the drinks cart at most courses, isn’t terrible, and you can drink 6 of them without losing your putting stroke. (625 characters)

Better than many of the other popular light lagers. This however, is not saying much. I was pleasantly surprised by a bitterness I would not expect from a beer like this. (172 characters)

Hey! It's better than Heineken. If you like bitter aftertaste in the form of an amber watery beer than this one for you. Very little body to this beer. All-in-a all, it's a mediocre "skunk" beer. (196 characters)

Amstel light

330 ml can served cold into a glass.

Appearance- fairly rich golden color, with a nice helping of two and a half fingers of head. This dissipates quickly however. Significant amount of bubbles in the see through beer.

Smell - slightly metallic, and other than that some mild adjunct aromas especially corn and nothing else to speak of. Fortunately nothing off putting either.

Taste- very bland, reminiscent of tonic water with a few adjuncts in there. Bland even by light beer standards. However nothing weird tasting that would give this an even lower score.

Mouthfeel - moderately high carbonation, dry finish in the mouth. Works well with the fizzy water flavor.

Overall - a little more flavor and this could be considered a pretty decent light beer, unfortunately this is extremely bland and water will quench the thirst better. Fortunately enough, there's nothing awful about it either meaning, it serves it's purpose well enough. (959 characters)

Tasted On: 05-20-2014
Freshness: Not indicated
Packaging: 12 oz. brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Tulip pint
Purchased: 6-pack from Kroger

Clear and very light blond-colored beer with a white head that stands a couple of fingers tall. Head retention is good, and leaves a fair trace of lace behind.

Hay and grassy aromas, plus sweet bread-like malts.

The first sip reveals a crisp and clean lager with lots of carbonation. The taste is semisweet from the malts, with no bitterness of hops. I also get some lemony character. The body is light, true to the style.

The finish has some malt sweetness to it, but is generally lacking in flavor. Overall this isn't a great beer, but for the sad style of light lager it's not a bad representation. (747 characters)

It poured golden yeal, light head, lots of carbonation, and some lacing. It had the taste of corn and metal, with hints of anything, was also watery and light bodied. It was refreshing, had no edge, and went down easy. It had no after to speak of and not many redeeming qualities. Good party beer I guess for all those hipster types out there. (343 characters)

Sampled on 3/10/14 but had this one many times in the past but has been a few years since I had one. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a pilsner pint glass.

Pours a light straw-yellow in color with a very thin white head. Some very spotty lacing is seen. The aroma is just of some yeast and grain. Nothing fancy really. The taste is on the flat side and watered-down with just some grain with a hint of floral as well. Slight metallic taste through out Overall, not a big fan of this one. (526 characters)

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on or freshness date present. Surprisingly, my first encounter with this beer and this brewery, acquired this bottle from my neighbors last night in a drunken stupor. So here we are again. Another awful adjunct lager. Expectations are bad based on the reviews and this beer's current rating of "awful".

Poured into a Spanish Peaks Black Dog Ale pint glass.

A - Pours a light golden colored body with perfect clarity. About a finger of sudsy white head that disappears within moments. Not much to look at, but I've seen far worse.

S - Smell is pretty nonexistent. Maybe a hint of sweet grains, corn, and wheat, but that's about it.

T - Flavor is a few notches upward from the nose, but this is still nothing to brag about. Watery, lightly grainy, wheat, husky corn, some sweet pilsner malt sorts of taste, lending a more full-bodied AAL sort of character to the beer.

M - Feel is crisp, clean, smooth, and watery. Refreshing, even.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, and I would say this is a likely contender for repeat drinking on a scorching summer day, and with a low 3.50% abv, this one sure is sessionable. I can't see much other reason to get this unless you want something to drink on all day without getting plastered. And I suppose in the realm of awful adjunct lagers and light lagers, Amstel Light wouldn't be too bad of a choice.

Yellow golden color with a thin head with low retention.
Very light aroma of floral hops and sweet malt. More towards an adjunct lager.
Flavor is slightly more interesting. Floral hops are more noticeable here with notes of sweet pale malt. Hints of minerals with a mild spice bite.
Light to watery body with good carbonation.
Refreshing beer, and that is it. Though, not bad among its style. (392 characters)

I rated this beer against other light lagers. It is good lager !

Appearance: Yellow straw beer

Smell is good compared to an AA Lager. It was grassy hoppys and grains smell to it.

Taste;: It taste of grains and gassy notes to it, unlike other light beer it does have some beer taste. Amstel basically taste like light of version to a European light lager.

Mouthfeel: Light with moderate carbonation

Overall: It enjoyed this beer. It beats out 95 percent of light lagers out there. It beats out bud light , coors light , natural light but the price is to high for my pocket book . I will drank Amstel Light in the future from a break from the norm but I will stick Miller Light from now. (690 characters)
