Yellow golden color with a thin head with low retention.
Very light aroma of floral hops and sweet malt. More towards an adjunct lager.
Flavor is slightly more interesting. Floral hops are more noticeable here with notes of sweet pale malt. Hints of minerals with a mild spice bite.
Light to watery body with good carbonation.
Refreshing beer, and that is it. Though, not bad among its style.

12oz can into a pilsner glass.

A- Pale light straw color. Thin white head, little bit of lacing, lots of bubbles.

S- Damp musty grains and bread. Is that floral hop and composte that I smell? Or is it just skunkiness?

T- Like the smell, damp musty breads. Heineken-esque.

M- A cross between seltzer and syrup.

O- Unbelievably bad.

Nose is heavy on the grains - straw, wet hay, reminds me of my days working at a garden center. Pours like my piss after a week in the bush, plus a finger of a fizzy white cap. Ends up looking like a decent lager though to be honest. It’s got that metallic brown / corn presence that you’ll find in new castle, stella and the like. I have no idea what this comes from but it’s there across the board. Not off-putting really. Perfectly drinkable. I would never seek this out though. Overall, fine, yeah, it is what it is.

12 oz can out of a minibar hotel fridge (this was a $7.00 mistake. Should've opted for the $9 Chivas Regal...)

A: Really clear and chicken broth-like.

S: Smells somewhere between the spent grains at a BMC brewery tour and the pile of old beer cans your neighbor leaves out behind their house on a hot summer day.

T: Tastes like the smell, but cold.

M: Carbonation is welcome as it seems to move the awful flavors off of your tongue as quickly as possible.

D: No.

12 oz can, no clear bottling date.

appears a super pale golden color, fizzy white head that quickly fades to nothing. aroma reaks of that typical adjuct smell. bland corny and pale malt flavor. no hops. bearable when cold, but goes downhill way fast as it warms. body is thin and fizzy.

ug. "the beer drinker's light beer" this is not. avoid!

12oz can.

A very light slightly yellow color with a small white head. Nose is bad, it's got a weird of smell with some adjunct an alcohol aromas.

Taste is very plain, bland and boring. It isn't as bad as many but it's not good. There's a sharp light carbonation with a watery mouthfeel and a bad after taste.

Pours a pale yellow. Large bubbles rising up to a quick falling head.

Smells metallic, with hints of white bread. The aroma is weak with no mentionable quality's.

Taste like watered down beer. I taste wonder bread, and something metallic.

Light body, over carbonated, and slimy.

Not as bad as other light beers that Ive tried, but still not close to being good.

ST: 12oz can poured into a pilsner glass.

A: Clear, yellow-gold with a thick white head that quickly settles down. Steady but slow tiny bubbles drift to the top.

S: Amstel Light has a very poor aroma. The hops almost seem nonexistent, and there is a strong metallic smell. There is the slight aroma of powdery biscuit.

T: Slight bread and watery slightly bitter hops greet the tongue poorly. A slight metallic edge joins a bit of poorly blended alcohol on the finish.

M: Watery and on the dryer side.

D: It has low ABV and is not complex. Though that makes it easy to drink (to chug), it does not make it a great beer to enjoy.

A: Straw with barely a head.

S: Sweet lager smell, mass produced corn and vegetable odor.

T: Grain with some slight malt. Hop bitterness is more than with your typical light. Finishes clean.

M: Water like.

O: I wasn't a big fan of it, especially at the price. I've had domestic lights that were half the price and twice as good.

A: Pours a light, brilliantly clear pale yellow color. The medium-sized white head has a foamy texture and a somewhat brief lifespan. There is a respectable smattering of weblike lacing.

S: The nose is one-dimensionally vegetal, with hints of rough grain husks and lightly herbal/floral hops. A touch metallic as well.

T: An extremely thin grainy malt presence up front. A definite cooked vegetable flavor is quite apparent, unfortunately. There is a hint of herbal hop bite towards the finish.

M: Typically thin-bodied. Carbonation lends some crispness, but not enough to really be appealing. A dry finish.

D: This beer's popularity is about as damning an indictment of the light lager style as I can find. An expensive European import that is sadly lacking flavor, character, or any sense of refreshment.

Never mind me - I'm just doing the CAN CAN on Veterans' Day! CAN you dig it?

My pour netted a little better than a finger's worth of bubbly, rocky bone-white head with low retention. The color was a light golden-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a slight grassiness underlain by a cereal quality. Mouthfeel was medium with a lightly sweet vanilla taste in the mouth. Very different from many of the CANned light beers that I have drank of late. Finish was slightly dry, kind of refreshing. It would probably be more satisfying on a hot day.

12 oz can into a pilsener glass

Pours a crystal clear pale straw color. Decent-sized white frothy head stuck around for a little bit, then faded away and left some minimal lacing.

Has that distinctive macro lager smell. Grainy malt with corn and other cooked veggies and some noticeable skunk.

Taste? What taste? Not much going on here. A faint hint of malts and some husky stuff. Can't pick up much else.

Mouthfeel is extremely light bodied (one is reminded of the phrase "beer-flavored water") that I guess is consistent with the 3.5% ABV. Would be more drinkable if it didn't taste so bad.

I had this beer for the first time at the Kentucky Speedway. Mullets abound and beer selection a bit on the low side!

A: light yellow appearance with a decent head.

S picked up some wheat and malt

T Malt is dominant and that's about it

M: Very light

D: It's definately drinkable. With the limited selection at the Kentucky speedway this past weekend, this was about as good as you could get other than Miller and Bud.

A: thin pale gold with near clear watery edges. No head and no lace. I caught a glimpse of white fizz after the pour and that was it

S: watery grains of corn and barley with a light sugary syrup sniff. Soft metallic whiffs as well

T: in most regards I would say "artificial." There is some cooked grains with maybe a dusting of hops, or so I like to think. Hops may come across with a vegetable type flavor

M: bubbly with a somewhat medium style body within the light category

D: not really much to this, I mean nothing at all

I bought this at a liquor store near my home in Maine, 12 pack for $14 yikes, very expensive for what it was. the appear was a plain yellow, the smell was light and nearly non-existent. The taste was light and somewhat crisp, considering the lack of smell. A little too much carbonation for me, but the drinkability was very good considering the amount of carbonation.

I'd drink it again, but it would need to be cheaper or I would have to be disparate.

Can on 02/07/2005.

A standard light beer equal to moist air. Light color with a minimal white frothy head with little lacing. Light body with soft carbonation. Light sweet flavor with a light sweet finish of short duration.

Best feature was that it was no charge on airplane.

Clear as water with a very light golden color. A third inch of white froth vanished in seconds. One stream of carbonation rising rapidly. No lace.

Aroma was quite weak. The scent that was there had an unappealing plastic presence that overpowered the light grains and grass aromas.

Grass and hay flavors up front. A surprise bitterness with a very light hops oil taste. Leaves a light plastic aftertaste. Unbalanced at best.

Watery, but taste clings a bit to the sides of the tongue. Carbonation is a bit overpowering.

Sub par. Just something to wash food down with. Nothing I would go out looking for. Another lackluster beer in the style.

When this beer is poured into a glass, it becomes apparent that there is little texture and body. The coloring here is so thin, I would say it is closer to water than beer. However, it is crisp looking. The aroma carries a wheat-like scent. High amount of grain aroma to this one. The flavor is a yeasty concoction of cornmeal, with the ever-so-faint taste of leftover hops. Actually, a very appealing flavor considering its "light" label. There is plenty to enjoy about its drinkability. The feel it leaves is so light and fizzy, that the ability to drink more than one is pretty much guaranteed. Good for a light lager.

On vacation, had this can poured in a plastic cup by a pool-side bar-keep. All beers were 4.50 so I thought id try something other than the other mac's.

It poured a darker than expected gold. The head was white and full. Ok carbonation, no fizz.
The taste was middle road. Lager malts, some citric hop and a clean aftertaste and mouthfeel. Not a watery feel but the lower abv leaves like a not much for the money feel.

It was ok for a light, i agree with other reviews, better than a Heine.

Threw down a few cans of this at a recent get-together. Not terrible, but not something I'd ever seek out. Very light, watery mouthfeel that would lend itself best to washing down strong bbq, hopefully not ruining the flavor in the first place. Tastes of corn, very little malt. You could do better than Amstel.

It was in the fridge, might as well taste.

A: light yellow with a 1 finger white head that quickly disappeared into a thin lace. lightly carbonated. Appearance would have rated higher if I judged on the first 5 seconds b/4 head disappeared

S: slight malt and corn

T: lightly carbonated, slight hop taste

M: crisp with a clean finish

D: easily drinkable. tastes better than most macro lights

12 ounce can poured with vigor.

A-Pale golden yellow. Small head which leaves a soapy slick atop the beer. There is a steady stream of bubbles but no head.

S-Not much smell to speak of.

T is more of the same. Slightly bitter. Not much different than other mass produced euro light lagers. Defininite metallic twang.

M- is seltzer like. Sharp bite to it.

What can I say about this beer. It's expensive, has hardly any taste at all, and the mouthfeel has to be one of the thinnest beers I have ever had. The real drawback to this beer is the price. Honestly, I would drink other mass produced lagers out there that are half the price any day over this, as there are brews that are half the price that taste a whole lot better.

The only thing I tasted in this brew was a slight grain flavor with just a hint of hops. Not much really there. The only bright side is the beer doesn't really have any off flavors; again, there really isn't much flavor there at all. The worst part is the mouthfeel. Way too watery and thin, even for a light beer. This beer actually reminds me of a watered down cocktail. Not recommended.

Had this froma can yesterday at a golf tournament. Beer is a living thing. We just can't have reviews that center only on a beer in its own exact glassware in the perfect season in the perfect mood wearing that beer's logo t-shirt within 2 miles of the brewery... etc.

Anyway, I poured it into a plastic cup, it had no noticeable head, it was pale and orange. The first taste was super thin, watery, and tasted light bitter carrots. The bitterness was not hop bitterness, mind you, but some ungodly funk that is supposed to make the beer feel BIGGER.

This tasting confirms my previous suspicions. This beer is sold to yuppie types under the false pretense that it is a "classy" alternative to american macro lite beers, but in fact- it tastes far worse in my opinion, and does not quench the thirst. This is not to slam this beer. just to erase a terribly false perception.
(THis beer was so bad that a draft michelob afterward tasted great by comparison.)

As much as I would like to believe this is better then BMC Light, it isn't. Simply add an off-putting skunky import wang to any typical light beer and you have Amstel Light. Yes, I know the skunkiness is the unique component to all those "great" import lagers, but Amstel is just plain worthless. At least with Bud Miller Coors you get a beer over 4% ABV. And to pay a premium for this stuff? Nah.
