In a pint glass:

More head than i expected, but it did not stick around. Almost no lacing. Not going to lie, based on looks alone I was not looking forward to trying this. Smelled of farm, which was not unpleasant, but there was just nothing else in there. Tasted a little citrus. Again, nothing else. No body at all. Too much carb, even for the style.

Overall: maybe all the marketing has clouded my judgment a bit. I was hoping this would stand up a little better than its American macro peers... but... eh. Pass on this one.

The color is a pale yellow, while the head was virtually nonexistant after a minute or so.

Smell? There's only a hint of an aroma, but it mostly smells of nothingness.

Taste, a bit grainy at first, but soon becomes a watery nothingness with a bit of a metal aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: It's as if they heard of carbonation, and this was there best possible guess as how it should manifest itself in their beef. If mouthfeel could equate to knives, Amstel Light would be a butter knife.

Drinkability: I do see how some people could defend this beer on a hot summer day - after all, it is mostly water. But there has to be a better light beer out there than this.

A: Pale, straw yellow without much head.

S: Not much to speak of. From what I detect, mainly a random assortment of grains with a touch of grain alcohol, just to spice things up.

T: Primarily watered down adjunct malts. There's a slight twang of hop bitterness, but the odd effect it creates is very off-putting. It's similar to the bitterness you get if you (somehow) bite into a bar of soap.

M: Crisp and clean; but which macro lager isn't?

D: I found myself having trouble finishing the bottle.

Well, here we have yet another light lager that just isn't up to snuff. There's almost no aroma to speak of. It is crisp, but the taste is rather acidic and slightly offensive. I do not approve.

If you see the international beer pack at World Market, buy something else. They put more of an emphasis on number of countries, not quality of beverages.

I had this on-tap at Flip and Bailey's in Rosemont, PA where it came in a pint glass.
Appearance: The body is a clear dark golden color, topped with nothing but air.
Smell: The aroma is completely absent as well.
Taste: The taste is fresh and a bit hoppy with a hint of pale malt that acts as a backbone.
Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is very crisp and refreshing.
Drinkability: I don't believe this is as bad as the other reviews make it seem.
Don't drink and review.

A buddy of mine bought a 6-pack of this thinking it would be similar to the non-light version he likes. Since I had never had any Amstel beers, I tried one. I was not pleased.

App: It has a dingy water look as if not really a beer at all.

Smell: It smells like any other low grade beer. When it gets a little warm, it starts to smell slightly skunky.

Taste: It was terrible. One of the least tolerable things I have ever put in my mouth.

Mouthfeel: Very frothy and light. Not too bad here.

Drink: It was a little tough getting past much more than half of a bottle.

Overall: I would not recommend this beer to anyone. It is awful cold and even worse warm. There is room for improvement, however.

Pours a light straw amber with moderate carbonation and a hint of lacing. Smells like straw, hops, bitterness, and skunk. Tastes like watery straw with lots of skunk. Pretty light mouthfeel with average carbonation. This beer was not very drinkable, in my opinion - especially given that it is marketed as a "premium" quality beer here in the US.

Almost too clear when poured, very little head and watery taste. It's very easy to put down a few in a short time because of the lack of overall "beer taste." It has a lighter feel and taste than typical American light beers but has a better drinkability

Poured a pale gold with a moderate fizzy head, lots of carbonation. A grainy, corn aroma with a faint wiff of hops. Some flavor, little malt, little hops, with a crisp finish, thin body, kind of watery. Not bad for a light beer, but kind of steep in price, Drinkable

Pours clear, light and golden with no head. Bizarre. Almost no aroma also. The taste is not offensive, just very faint. The mouthfeel is light and watery. Almost no bitterness to balance no malt. Not a bad beer, but barely a beer. Leaves a lasting impression of water.

Handed to me at a party.

Light and fizzy, zero head retention.

Very light smell, honey? skunky? so light its hard to tell.

Flavor is lightly malty, a little skunky fringe, stomachable but probably for only one. zero hops or yeasty character in the flavor so I guess its doing as advertised...

Not that enjoyable but not the worst thing in the world either.

Absolutely a horrible beer. I had 12 of these in the fridge my girlfriend bought, and after one, it was time to put my boots on and go out to get something else that night. The flavor is like making a hybrid tea with old cardboard and selzer water - it literally tastes like wet paper mixed with some kind of glue. How they could make a beer this bad and sell it for $9.99 a 6-pack (price at my corner store in Chicago) is truly miraculous. ANY cheap light beer I've tried (Busch, Miller, etc.) is better than this.

A: Gold with nice clarity and moderate carbonation. Fizzy white head has a little bit of retention. Leaves bits of lace.

S: Yes, there is a smell, but it's faint. Husky malt and a bit of pepper.

T: Taste is pretty faint too. Straw like malt up front followed by a slight pepper bitterness that's greater than most light beers. Finishes clean.

M: Light body has a seltzer quality to it. Not much there really.

D: My sister swears by this stuff. I swear at it. I guess it's a touch better than most lights. But that's faint praise.

I don't usually drink or review light beers, but I wanted to see what the big deal was about with this beer. People seem to really like it, so I ordered one with my meal to check it out.
Seems to smell & taste like a light beer. No big deal. Nothing offensive or off, and it's drinkable enough, just doesn't have much flavor or body. Malty overall with some light grain and a smidge of grassy hops to balance. Finishes clean. I guess if you're a light beer drinker (wuss) this is a good choice, but I think it's more of a trendy status thing than a flavor thing. I won't pay for it again, but I'd drink it and enjoy it if someone handed me one.

I bought this at a liquor store near my home in Maine, 12 pack for $14 yikes, very expensive for what it was. the appear was a plain yellow, the smell was light and nearly non-existent. The taste was light and somewhat crisp, considering the lack of smell. A little too much carbonation for me, but the drinkability was very good considering the amount of carbonation.

I'd drink it again, but it would need to be cheaper or I would have to be disparate.

This is the first time I've had this widely available beer. The reason? I didn't pay for it :). Eating dinner with an old friend, who apparently loves the stuff. He decided to "show me the light" and purchase me one. Boy do he and I have some talking to do.

Not much different from other light beers. Clear golden yellow color, and virtually no aroma. Taste is very watery, and nothing to write home about. The carbonation and light body combine to make it an easy drinking beer, which is its best quality.

I would never buy this for myself, but if someone is willing to buy me one, I wont turn it down.

Poured a pale yellow with a thin white bubbly head with little retention.

Mild sour grain aromas. Not much here, and what there is isn't that enticing.

Thin light grain, some boiled corn and a bit of sugar fights its way through, but this is such a watery brew that anything good is lost in the dilution. No off notes, but nothing exciting either.

Fizzy and clean, it is a refreshing pizza beer. Won't overpower anything, but stand out on its own either.

Sad, as some of the Amstel beers available in the Netherlands aren't bad -- but this watered down swill is just not worth having.

what did you expect? It's not bourbon barrel aged. There are no IBUs listed on the bottle.

It's a light beer.

When you're counting calories or just want a lower ABV beer to drink, and doesn't taste terrible, this is what you want. Isn't it?

I remember in college we always thought this was the best tasting light beer.

Isn't it still?

A- red with a little head cause of the pour, then goes away
S- like really wattery beer with no evidence of hops
T- crisp , boring, little skunky tasting
M- Light and not very interesting
D- I rate this very high because it has a low abv ,its pretty easy to drink and light

A good beer for someone who wants a beer , but is watching calories. A def step up from some other light domestic macros, which shall remain nameless...

Can on 02/07/2005.

A standard light beer equal to moist air. Light color with a minimal white frothy head with little lacing. Light body with soft carbonation. Light sweet flavor with a light sweet finish of short duration.

Best feature was that it was no charge on airplane.

12oz bottle.

I went out with a few guys from work to a place with no beer selection at all. They were all drinking this cool beer and I was peer pressured into having one too. I guess if all the cool kids are doing it, it has to be good. Thankfully they weren't pushing something like smoking...

For a light beer this one is not the worst but that really isn't an endorsement. Certainly it is drinkable in a pinch even if it is weak. Nothing metallic here but it has a little grain husk like malt to it. Light hops, light sweet smell, and light pale color. But what do you expect its a light beer. The taste and the aroma are the same.

Not bad for a lite lager. Golden pour with a weak malt scent. Fairly watery on the palate, although fuller than most other lites. Flavor is rather bland, there is a decent sharpness but it soon fades. Low abv isn't very helpful either. Many better choices out there.
