From 05/29/11 notes. What to do when you're at a wedding where you don't know many people and they're only serving bad beers? Tick the beers you've been putting off reviewing and then switch to whiskey. Started with Amstel Light, poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip like glass.

a - Pours a yellow golden color with two inches of white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of wheat, grain, light sourness, bready malts, and rice. Not very good, and the light sourness makes me think skunked.

t - Tastes of sour notes, sour bready malts, grain, wheat, rice. Again, not very enjoyable, though not the worst tasting beer I've had.

m - Light to medium body and moderate to high carbonation evident. A little too carbonated.

o - Overall not a good beer at all. A step up from Miller Light, but that's not saying much. Would prefer Bud Light to this if I had to pick a light beer, but I'll be switching to whiskey for the night pretty soon.

12oz can.

A very light slightly yellow color with a small white head. Nose is bad, it's got a weird of smell with some adjunct an alcohol aromas.

Taste is very plain, bland and boring. It isn't as bad as many but it's not good. There's a sharp light carbonation with a watery mouthfeel and a bad after taste.

12 oz bottle poured into a cup.

Appearance - Pale copper body. Pancake batter white head with creamy lace. Good retention.

Smell - Grainy with light malt.

Taste - Sharp metallic twang. Dry. Otherwise very light on the flavor. Really none to speak of. Slightly corny at best.

Mouthfeel - Light, watery body with a bit of creaminess in the head while it lasts.

Overall Drinkability - Like having sex in a boat. You know the rest.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass, part of the continuing series of mainstream ticks from my parent's house.

Pours a clear golden color with apparent carbonation, the head is a finger and goes away as fast as it comes. Aroma-wise? Not terrible. Water is predominant, but there's some light, sharp hoppiness and some bready malts. The taste? It starts out not too bad, it's fairly flavor deficient but has some nice subtle hop zings over some bready malt, but the finish comes in with a terrible metallic taste that basically ruins the whole thing. As it warms and my pallet becomes adjusted, this just tastes more and more like mineral water.

The mouthfeel is nice, it's well-carbonated and prickly on the mouthfeel. The drinkability isn't great for a light beer, it tastes like it should be a bit heavier in ABV. Overall, this really isn't a great beer. It's servicable, but just barely. If it was the only thing available, I'd drink it and not complain too much. But picking this over the Yuengling and Stella in my parent's fridge was a mistake. Absolutely need a light beer? This is better than many, but seriously? Sam Adams Light or bust. It's bizarre to think that this might be better than most people's experience with this beer, because I took this bottle straight out of an unopened 12 pack.

Sometimes you just have to review less wonderful beer.

Amstel light pours gold (pale) with a rapidly vanishing head and carbonation abound. The aroma unfortunately smells of soaking cabbage and straw, pungent in a bad way.

The flavor is slightly stronger than Perrier, but literally it tastes mostly like water. There aren't any flavor notes to speak of other than mild wheat and...tap water. The beer is like mineral water with slightly more alcohol.

Overall what's the point? Well...it is a light beer but giving it a modicum of a flavor profile might make this moderately worthwhile.

I enjoy the Damm Good Beer commercials but thats about all. I'm sure that Amsterdam isn't that proud of this beer. Anyway this was probably one of the first imported beers I ever had and honestly it wasn't anything to really brag about. This beer pours out as a pale yellow with a little head on top. The aroma is basically just a malt based brew. Not much to pick out really. The taste is the same as the aromas. Not a whole lot going on here. It's drinkable but that's all.

12 oz bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada imperial pint.
Calories 95, Carbs 5 g, Protein 1 g, Fat 0 g, 0091528J0103.

A - The crystal clear beer shows off steady carbonation streaming through the lightly golden pale straw yellow beer stemming from the etching in the glass. Low head retention to the cloud-white pile. Little fingers of lace are left.

S - Skunky, but not Heineken skunky, Amstel lets off notes of dry straw and dirt with a light mineral finish. Pretty faint though. There's not much here.

T - Subtle notes of dirty straw underline a harsh mineral flavor with a complimentary metallic flake addition. Light grassy finish. Ugh.

M - Highly carbonated and thin feeling with an ultra-light body and dry finish. Hard mineral texture in the mouth.

O - Of the light beers I sampled this evening, this is the only one that's actually pretty offensive on some level. The taste is just bad despite it minimal but that's actually there. I don't see much sense in consuming this beer. Ever.

When at a wedding, most times your beer options are limited...once the Heinekens ran out, had to switch to Amstel Light.

A: Pours a bright golden color with some heightened amber hues on the outside. Provides a small white foam head that dissipates to nothing.

S: Some oh so small amounts of bread, but mostly corn and some sort of metallic scent.

T: Similar to the smell but there seemed to be a little more bready malt character. The taste remains constant throughout, slightly malty and thin.

M: A light bodied lager that is a watery. Not much happening on the palate.

O: Not a beer I would purchase or necessarily reach for but it did the job over the other available options that night. Could still do worse than an Amstel Light.

Looks, smells, and tastes like watered down Bud Light. Enough said right???

Pours a sickly watery straw color with a thick boisterous white soapy head that doesn't dissipate and no lacing. Smells like corn and horse piss (like Stella Artois) Tastes really nasty like Corona and death had a baby beer -- like rotten corn and old egg. Mouthfeel is watery and has a heavy carbonation. Overall it is one of the worst light beers I've tried. If you are in a trashy mood, take a Natty Light over this dog piss.

Pours a pale yellow. Large bubbles rising up to a quick falling head.

Smells metallic, with hints of white bread. The aroma is weak with no mentionable quality's.

Taste like watered down beer. I taste wonder bread, and something metallic.

Light body, over carbonated, and slimy.

Not as bad as other light beers that Ive tried, but still not close to being good.

Pours a golden color with a thin amount of bubbly head.

The scent is of corn and grains.

The taste is also of corn and grains, some metallic notes.

Light bodied, crisp and light, high carbonation.

This isn't bad for an adjunct lager, not something I would prefer though.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a New Belgium globe glass.

A: Light golden color with small head that fades quickly.
S: Corny alcohol, slightly metallic.
T: A bit tasteless, some corniness, alcohol.
M: Light bodied, high carbonation.
D: Easy to drink, but definitely not anything special.

ST: 12oz can poured into a pilsner glass.

A: Clear, yellow-gold with a thick white head that quickly settles down. Steady but slow tiny bubbles drift to the top.

S: Amstel Light has a very poor aroma. The hops almost seem nonexistent, and there is a strong metallic smell. There is the slight aroma of powdery biscuit.

T: Slight bread and watery slightly bitter hops greet the tongue poorly. A slight metallic edge joins a bit of poorly blended alcohol on the finish.

M: Watery and on the dryer side.

D: It has low ABV and is not complex. Though that makes it easy to drink (to chug), it does not make it a great beer to enjoy.

A: Clear light gold with a small head and almost no linger

S: Musky maltiness with some slight hoppiness.

T: Bland maltiness with some musky hop flavor that leaves an unejoyable bitter aftertaste.

M: Light body without much carbonation

This showed to be just another cheap selection at a small bar. It's like the BMC's. Something you buy to save money instead of enjoy a good beer.

The beer appeared a very pale yellow with a small, light, and fluffy head that disappeared in the blink of an eye, with no part of the head retained and no lacing.

The beer gave off a light corn-ish aroma. Not much else.

The taste was actually a little better than expected, but less than average. Heavier on the malt than most of the same style, this provided for a little sweetness. Not much else.

The beer was pretty light. The carbonation was a bit too high, but honestly one of the better beer for this style. I might choose this one if given the choice over most BMC beers.

I ordered this beer when I was at La Hacienda Ranch, I poured it into a pint glass...

It was very pale yellow, with a thin white bubbly head.

I could smell some skunkiness, lemony hops, and maybe a hint of corn.

The flavor was lemony and skunky to with a hint of grassiness.

This beer was very light and had lots of carbonation.

It's drinkable but not very enjoyable.

Had this at an office party where my wife works.

Typical mass produced lager, not much different than a Budweiser or even Yuengling (no, Yuengling is NOT as amazing as the hype makes it out to be).

Everything was pretty average, the smell was doughy and bland, mildly skunked. You know, the longer I drink craft beer the more eaily I forget that skunking is even an issue for some beer... and the more sensitive I get to it as well.

The taste is maltier than I would have guessed, which I suspect, is why this isn't listed as an adjunct lager, the malt does come through. But considering that many craft breweries make lagers, some even light beers, this one is simply sub-par overall.

That said, I suppose I could crush these all night with nary a care in the world if I chose. But I would never choose to do so...

Pours a light yellow color, some carbonation, little fizzy white head, with some sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, ricy, very slight hop note. The taste is kinda malty, skunked/ricy. Light body. Not Drinkable, why do they make these kinds of beer are beyond me, what a waste of water.

A- Pale yellow, but a decent head that lasts longer than expected.

S- Light grain and straw. Not something I wanted to smell enough to find anything else in there.

T- Damp straw. Corn. Nothingness.

M- Thin, watery.

D- Just bleh overall. Part of a mix 6, so I don't feel too bad. Not something that tastes bad enough(or at least not present enough) to recoil from, but I'll never buy again.

Re-tasting a popular lager here for review.

Pours a pale gold with ample foam, but the aroma is off-putting.

Skunkiness for sure.

Heineken fans, take note.

The flavor is watery and insubstantial, with no lingering flavors or complexity. As an associate once said, "beer-flavored water".

Pours a light golden body with a small head. Just has the average Dutch skunky smell with not much else going on. Tastes quite light; not too much here, but more than most light beers. Feels pretty bubbly. One of the better light beers out there, but that is not saying much.

This beer pours a golden straw color with barely any head that quickly dissipates with small streams of bubbles rising form the bottom

The smell is not good at all, there are no traditional smells to be detected like malt hop or anything like that

the taste follows the smell nothing to let me know that this is a beer, just a small amount of bitterness

mouthfeel is light and watery and the drinkability is low due to lack of flavor and aroma

Pours a clean pale yellow color with a small white head. In the aroma, faint sweetness to a standard European lager. In the taste, dry malt and a small bite, but thin and not much going on. A small bite and light bodied mouthfeel, with a dry standard lager kind of aftertaste. Nothing too exciting here, I guess that is why I don't golf!

Had last night while out with the wife and some friends.

A- I had this in the bottle with no glass. Why is that? Well I asked for a glass and none came my way and I wanted some so...oh well. Average is what I'll give it because I've seen it many times over in other people's glasses.

S- Skunked and more skunked. Light sweet grain bill to this with some hop presence (earthy) this gets all covered up with a skunked Euro Lager style nose. It made me kind of not want to try it to be honest. But I did of course!

T- Some sweet upfront to the beer with light grainy flavors. This gets put in background with a light mild bitter hop flavor. Although, this even get s covered up with a ton of musty skunky flavor. I meant this takes over the palate along with a light hop bite. It's not bad but I know it shouldn't be there.

M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation was high but good for the beer. Light skunked flavor left on the palate and long into the aftertaste with a hint of hops and alcohol. Flavors were off balanced due to the skunked flavor. Not clean although overall it had a crisp hint to it. Light alcohol drying on the palate.

D- This beer was average in the drinkability. It wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Is it a great beer? Nope. Does it do it's job? For the most part. I would rather drink this than most offerings from BMC.

A- pale yellow, with tint of gold, trace head on top

S- sweet corn and hint of malt.

T- light corn, grain taste with mild bitter finish.

M- dry, light body, big carbonation.

D- This is a very weak light beer, but isn't that the point. Honestly, if you want a light beer there are better, cheaper ones at your local store. Highly sessionable only because it is so watery and will not fill you up or make you drunk.
