Wholly unimpressive, this beer is not worth the money, and is hardly worth drinking. It is flat, tasteless, nearly colorless, and has zero zing in the moth. One might consider it refreshing, if you looking for a super light beer that resembles water. (250 characters)

12oz can into a pilsner glass.

A- Pale light straw color. Thin white head, little bit of lacing, lots of bubbles.

S- Damp musty grains and bread. Is that floral hop and composte that I smell? Or is it just skunkiness?

T- Like the smell, damp musty breads. Heineken-esque.

M- A cross between seltzer and syrup.

O- Unbelievably bad. (335 characters)

Slightly darker than US light lagers, the head dissapates quickly, leaving only the impression of light malts and tangy hop. flavor is very slight, a bitterness that leaves immediately when swallowed, leaving no notable flavors other than light malts and bitter hops; same as the nose. Carbonation level is very heavy with a very watery mouthfeel, yet this same trait makes this beer as easy to drink as a diet soda. Unimpressive but inoffensive, and a less offensive flavor then most american light lagers. This is a beer whose whole is better than the sum of its parts. (571 characters)

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a crystal clear pale yellow with a fluffy one finger head. Actually good head retention thanks to the abundant carbonation.

Aroma of hay and light bread along with a touch of skunk. Some corn thrown in there too.

Flavor starts out with bread and hay and is actually not half-bad albeit very light. However it then completely disappears to nothing but a tinge of bitterness. I can't believe how quick the flavor just disappears. Extremely watery mouthfeel.

Overall, this beer is just barely a step above water. Almost no flavor whatsoever. (579 characters)

not the worst wash on the market, but another generic macro euro lager type, this one falling on the sweeter side, with an extract malt vibe and a general lack of anything fresh or interesting. more carbonation would make this passable, and its not bad from the bottle, but a little air exposure in the glass and the beer goes flat. a little bitterness in the aftertaste, but hard to credit hops for that. its a little filling as well, which is odd for a beer this low in abv, it doesn't even work to catch a quick buzz. its not horribly off in flavor, which I guess is redeeming in some sense, but this is a pretty beat brew, and one to avoid if you are looking for quality lager. (681 characters)

A: Pours alight yellow color with a modest head and no real lacing.

S: Very mild aroma hops and malt sweetness.

T: Taste is quite bland with just a bit of malt sweetness. Fair crispness and a clean finish.

F: Light body with a light crispness, again pretty bland.

O: Euro light lager for the faint of heart (314 characters)

Note to self: Never again drink a light beer, imported or otherwise. (This will be my first and last post on a light beer...)

I haven't had a light beer in quite some time, heck I don't really need to drink light beers, but I was out with the wife, feeling good and when the waitress rattled this brew out I thought, what the heck. Boy I wish I woulda had a Bud instead...

It pours out a decent golden yellow color, small white head, no staying power but good lacing. Now the wheels fall off the wagon. The beer smelled worse that the normal hoppy or malty scents you find in your average beers. Mouthfeel was way too carbonated for my taste - which took away from an average taste to begin with.

Do yourself a favor - if you have to try a light beer, choose something else.

(If you drink then please don't drive, and if you've gotta drive then do us all a favor and please don't drink.) (892 characters)

I'll tell you what; for a light beer when your on a diet this beer rocks. It's not the best light beer in any category, but overall its just the best alternative to the light beer magnates C light, B light, M light, M ultra etc....

12oz bottle, unintelligible code on back

very clear golden yellow look, no smell to note. taste is similar to the nose. light musty grain, heavily carbonated, with a sickly sweet finish.

very watery and light, even for a light beer. without the off-putting, sweet, garbage-juice finish, i would rate it higher.

EDIT: the bottle i had must have been skunked out, i had this again recently at my grandparents and it was excellent(for the style) (445 characters)

The appearance of Amstel Light was a light golden amber color. The smell of it was a little like corn but very little smell overall. The taste was a little watery but did have a little bit of hops to it. Overall, not bad but it did taste a little watered down compared to other beers that i have tried. (302 characters)

A: Pours a clear, very very light amber. Small fizzy head that disappears quickly. Moderate light fluffy lacing.

S: Skunky aroma with a little corn.

T: A little corn, a little sulfur. A hint of sweet grains.

M: Water.

O: Disgusting for the most part. No flavor or aroma to speak of. What's there is actually terrible and skunky. Who drinks this stuff? (357 characters)

A - Very clear, nothing remarkable. Decent head retention. Looks good for a lager.
S - Nothing bad, certainly, but nothing remarkably good. Absolutely middle of the road. The only aroma I notice that is notable is banana (see below).
T - Amstel is a very decent pilsner/lager. It's not great, but I easily rank it above the other heavyweight export of its area, Heineken. Most notably, there's a very clear banana presence almost every time. As this is pretty far removed from a Weissbier, it's strange, but it makes for a very clear departure from other pilsners and lagers. Other than that, it's hard to imagine Amstel offending anyone's tastes, but then again, it's hard to imagine it being your favorite brew.
M - Very light. Goes down easy and quick. Not a beer to toss around in the mouth, although if you do, it isn't at all unpleasant.
O - See Taste. This is a good beer, and I don't mind keeping it in the fridge as my lager, even though it isn't my favorite (I do like to change it up every now and then).

I think the reviews are overly harsh because this is an import, and a *gasp* lager. It's not supposed to be an IPA. If you judge it against what it's supposed to be, I think it easily meets the mark, even if it's not setting a new standard. (1,257 characters)

Out of all the light beers Amstel does a great job of providing the calorie concious drinker a great alternative.

Unlike many light beers that try to emulate their full-calorie counterparts amstel does not try to be a "full" beer.

There is a pleasant initial aroma followed by a mellow taste and decent mouth-feel for a light.

This beer does not offend(as many lights do) and instead provides an unassuming gardening beer. (427 characters)

Amstel light is just another light beer. If you are a fan of light beers, you will probably love it.
It is light, easy to drink. Has a grainy taste, with a little hop bitterness.

It is pleasant enough. I found it enjoyable.

It is a nice light beer, but not worth the high price. (283 characters)

Drank from a bottle, several times unfortunately.

This is the one beer I absolutely do not like. Sometimes I order it out of spite, just to remind myself why I don't like it.

I don't mind light beers, but this one tastes awful. I can't tell you why. It's bitter and disgusting.

I'd rather have a no-taste Coors or Bud Light than an Amstel. (342 characters)

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that completely faded away.
S: There are aromas of cooked corn and other adjunct malts in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has notes of rice.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink but the aroma and taste are not very appealing. (470 characters)

Someone handed me an ice cold bottle of this at the end of a very long, very hot day of work, so don't be surprised if my review is a little skewed towards the positive here. I was struck by how refreshing and clean drinking it is and how much more palatable it is in comparison to most other commercial light beers. That being said, that's damning with faint praise and I wouldn't be shocked if my reaction was quite different upon returning to this at another juncture. I certainly wouldn't buy it and don't feel the need to have it again, having had more than enough of these in my early beer drinking days when any import was a step up from Buds and Millers.

Anyways the pour is golden amber, good clarity, slowly settling cream-colored head, a little patchy lacing here and there. Appearance is pretty solid. Very bland aroma with a hint of grainy adjuncts, some kind of faint corniness, very vague floral hops. Not much here.

The flavor is similarly bland but mostly inoffensive; again there's that cereal grain/corn thing going on, a touch of honey sweetness, and a suggestion of floral hops. Very little actual bitterness, little in the way of an aftertaste, dry, clean finish. A touch of oxidized cardboard but it's not overwhelming.

Good mouthfeel, medium light body, crisp carbonation, not too watery. Look, this isn't a good beer by any means but it might get the job done on a sweltering day and it's your first and you're not expecting much and you're really thirsty and you can't have too much alcohol cause you have to drive soon and so on and so forth. Or you could just have water and wait for something better to come along, I don't know. (1,660 characters)

Pours a clear yellow with a foamy bone colored head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small blotches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain and some skunky vegetal aromas. Taste is pretty watery and is mainly of grain and a mild grassy note. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and thin mouthfeel. Overall, this is a poor beer that is watery and thin. (424 characters)

12 ounce bottle poured into a pilsener glass.

Appearance: Very nice...darker, more golden yellow. Clear although I noticed some very small "floaters" suspended in the beer. A nice white that faded off slowly leaving some nice lacing for a light beer. A few carbonation bubbles rising up from the bottom.

Smell: A fair amount going on...some malt, some hops, dry piney citrus aroma, fruity and floral.

Taste: Nice hop bitterness for a light beer. The finish lingered after going down. Very pleasant taste. Crisp and semi-dry.

Mouth Feel: Thin to medium body with a semi-dry finish. Nice carbonation bite.

Overall: This is a very good light beer. It exceeds expectations, for me anyway, for a light beer. Pleasant tasting and easy to drink. I have tried a number of light beers and to date this was the best. Until i find another light beer to be better this would be my favorite. (884 characters)

Into a pint glass. Light straw color with not a bit of head.
Weird smell of burnt wood and metal.
Taste like fizzy water with burnt wood in it. How to they do this?
Light and fizzy body, moderate carbonation.
It is truly amazing that this beer is literally nothing. The wonders of science. (291 characters)

This brew poured with a half finger of pure white head that actually took awhile to dissipated. The body was a clear, straw yellow with moderate visible carbonation. The nose was very mild with a hint of grain and nothing else. The taste was…well…pretty terrible. I got a hint of grass, grain and metal. The body was thicker than expected with moderate carbonation. The metal lasted until the finish that was luckily pretty quick. Nothing about this beer was very pleasant. I would definitely avoid this one. (512 characters)

Open bar selection at a wedding..Clean straw yellow, fizzy, little head, no lacing.

Smell is grain, grass, some straw.

More grain on the palate, no development to speak of...just bland

Thin..got rid of this one quickly

I'm reviewing this as what it is, a "light" beer.
Kind of thin, kind of boring, slight nice bitterness.
Not bad for a light and something I drink regularly since I
can't drink homebrew all night. Definitely better than bud has to
offer. If you want a beer to drink but don't want the carbs, give it a try. (309 characters)

12oz bottle served in a pint glass.

pours a clear, straw yellow tone while yielding a short lived finger or so of a spritzy white head. no real retention or lacing to speak of. not atypical for the style. very muted nose is mainly grain, corn, and *maybe* a slight touch of hops hiding in the background. not impressed.

taste is not very good. not because it's repulsive, but more because there is nothing to taste; somehow even more muted than the aroma. light corn and grain element. thin bodied mouthfeel with average carbonation.

overall, nothing i will waste my time with again. its only real selling point is that it's relatively inoffensive. unless you're offended by bland, flavorless beers.
