Very fruity, smooth and drinkable double IPA, especially considering the alcohol content.

aroma: pine, citrus, caramel, melon, berries and grapefruit

taste: pine, citrus, melon, berries, orange peel and grapefruit supported by a good malt backbone - fruity and delicious.

excellent DIPA but didn't pick up much of the blueberries that were added to the brew. Anyway, well balanced, fruity and smooth.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2014. Acquired a little while back from the Brewdog webshop. Described on the label as a double IPA infused with blueberries - fruity....

Poured into a Duvel tulip. A deep orange-amber hue with faint haze and light carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a patchy surface layer. Aroma of overwhelming fruity hops with notes of white grape, melon, berries, grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, tropical fruit and grass/hay. Underpinned by caramel malt and faint earthy yeast. The blueberry is exceptionally subtle but adds a rounded fruitiness that pervades the hop character.

Tastes of intense fruity hops with an aromatic bitter finish. Notes of white grape, berries, grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, tropical fruit, mild grass/hay, caramel malt, earthy yeast and faint stewed hops. A blueberry hint is just discernible, though virtually drowned out by the hops. Slightly sweet, followed by a powerful hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with soft carbonation and good body. Hop oils stimulate the palate. Pretty astringent, with an aftertaste of juicy aromatic hops, berry notes and acute bitterness.

Boom! This is what a double IPA is all about - a hop tornado. It looks good, while the aroma and flavour are simply stunning. Intense hop notes that touch every nerve. Nice body. The blueberries are faint but add something extra to the mix. Well worth sampling if you have the chance. Sonja unleashes an unstoppable torrent of hops - you will succumb....

Pours deep amber with a large head.
Nose shows fruity hops, sweet crystal malt, passion fruit, lychee and pear.
Fruity flavours too, but this time the blueberry comes into play in a subtle way. Lots more sweet clean malt in true Brewdog fashion followed by an aggressive, piny bitterness.
Body feels a little thick.

On tap at Pizza Plant Transit in Buffalo, NY.

A Mosaic hopped IPA with blueberries. I like Evil Twin and am not sold yet on BrewDog, so we'll see how I like this collab.

Pours a dark amber color, pretty clear, no haze. One inch head, nice lacing.

Smells like orange, apricots, grapefruit and blueberries.

The tastes hits with malt sweetness first, which is slightly disappointing. Sweet honey and caramel up front, with some muddled berry flavors, then the citrusy hop goodness all the way at the end. It would seem that possibly shipping this hoppy beer to America has muted the hop flavor a bit too much. Resinous, sweet finish to this beer.

Full body, sticky sweet mouthfeel. Relatively drinkable.

An interesting experiment, but the beer isn't clean enough to be an IPA. The malt sweetness and the berries muddles the hops too much. It's very possible to have a hoppy fruited IPA with a good malt backbone, but the flavors have to be more distinguishable, in my (stupid) opinion. Would get again if i found it fresher, probably.

@ Tasty Beverage

Mostly clear amber color with a tall, fat white head. There's certainly some blueberries in the aroma along with other berries, apricots, and grapefruit...everything is coated with a slick, oily hop character. A little less from the blueberries in the flavor, but they're still there in more of a sweet pie-like manner. Oily, resinous hops and ripe tropical fruit. Medium bodied, moderately bitter, and sticky. There's a sort of creaminess that fluffs up the body a tad and a slight acidity to dry things out. A neat, interesting beer here...the blueberry plays very nicely with the Mosaic and everything comes together smoothly with no heat or overbearing sweetness.

Drank from my Ciney sniffer

A - pours a clear copper colour.

S - Plenty of citrus grapefruit.

T - Not much blueberry, taste is pretty up hop driven.

M- Medium body and low carbonation.

O - Would have liked to have tasted a more pronounced Blueberry flavour.

On-tap. Pint glass enjoyed @ L´Espumossa (Barcelona). Orange color, chill haze appearance. Off-white foam, close & sticky crown, good retention. Aroma profile displays intense pine, resins, toasted notes with pineapple & ripe apricot. Sweet mild toasted malt upfront is swept out by resinous hops. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. Oily texture. Spicy & slight sparkling in the middle. Dry sweet/low bitter finish. Fruity aftertaste.

Chocked full of hop aroma and flavor, My Name is... is bursting with all the juicy and exotic of the citrus and tropical fruit families and gives this massive IPA a vibrancy and mouth-whetting character that's unmatched. So, how fruity is this Sonja chick?

As the beer pours, its medium amber color glistens as the bubbles that are embedded within slowly pull from the body of the liquid. Lightly hazed, the beer offers a soft and diffused glow from back lights. Creamy and frothy, its ivory-stained head builds into a gentle lather that endures the session very well, trailing with broken lace left behind on the glass.

The single-source "Mosaic" hops resonate on the nose with starbusts of pineapple, mangoes, apricots and passion fruit. After weaving in a citrusy thread of tart oranges and red grapefruit, the ale becomes decidedly fruit. Wafting about it all is the unnecessary twang of berries, but it continues to reinforce the fructose sweetness to come. And its that tangy fructose that's propped up by the thin caramel and biscuit malts lurking in the background.

Acting in reverse, its the malt sweetness that greets the tongue first. Somewhat of thin honey and caramel, the taste is woven together by a light bready-sweet taste. But that's all short-lived as the middle palate comes quickly, knocking with the plethora of citrus, tropical fruit and berry deliciousness. The tangy bitterness of grapefruit links up beautifully with the vibrant and drippy sweetness of passionfruit. As the berry additions bring and earthen juiciness, it also surprises the taste buds with peps of ribes, currant leaves and oddly enough- marinara. And its that peculiar medley of fruit flavors that fuse together and develop into an acute bitterness that's pleasantly grassy, lemony and minty.

Medium-dry on the palate, the beer carries slightly more heft than a standard American IPA, but avoids the barricade sweetness that many "imperial" versions fall into. Its creaminess springs from the palate and pricks at the tongue lightly. This brings the beers bright acidity to life and ushers in a malty-dry and resinous finish.

...Sonja is a fantastic IPA that showcases the New Zealand hop variety, "Mosaic" extremely well, however the blueberry additions masks its uniqueness to some extent. Dangerously smooth, the fruit simply heightens the fruit character that the ale possesses already. If Jeppe's mom, Sonja is anything like the beer..., do you think she'd go out with me?
