A very pale IPA, light straw coloured. A vigorous pour produced just over a finger of fairly tight white head, and the brew is displaying nice retention. As the head slowly fades intricate strands of lace stick to the sides of the glass. Quite nicely laced.
An interesting aroma. Slightly sulfurous, will assume its related to the electrolyte profile in the water, and it helps to kick the hop profile up a notch or two. Nice citrusy aroma, as well as some grassiness. Some pale malts try to assert themself, but without much success, white grapefruit and pine sit atop more grassy and floral hop aromas. Not your typical american IPA, but certainly not the typical british ipA either.
Some bready and biscuit malt notes are overwhelmed by the hops. Assuming amarillo and some EKG? But a look at the website shows me im quite wrong... Anyways it has a nice grapefruit character with some pine, as well as some less aggressive, woody and floral hop essence, with a slightly resinous feel.
Fairly light bodied, and hop forward. Works quite nicely. Crisp malts, with long, drawn out hoppiness that lingers well into the finish, along with the sulfurous quality.
Quite drinkable, and an interesting hybrid. Thanks to the competitive pricing at the LCBO i could see myself enjoying this one again. This would serve as a great intro to the realm of hoppy brews, and has enough interesting hop flavour to make it easy enough to have more than one. A great IPA, perhaps, and perhaps not. Bu this is a good and interesting beer that i would enjoy again. Im a real fan of the profile of the water used to make this beer, and how it brings out the punk in the hops...
