Notes/Commercial Description:
Welcome to a post Punk apocalyptic mother fucker of a pale ale.

A beer that spent its formative years Blitzkrieg bopping around India and the sub continent. Quintessential Empire with an anarchic twist.

God save the Queen and all who sail in her. Raising a Stiff Little Finger to IPAs that have come before and those it is yet to meet.
Turn up the volume Pay the man. Embrace the punked up, fucked up outlaw elite.

Never Mind the Bollocks this is the real shit.

Appearance: Poured from a bottle into an Irish pub style (real) pint glass, in low altitude Galway, Ireland, on September 19th, 2010. Pours a cloudy gold and a four finger head that retains well (doesn't even reduce for three minutes). Head is of moderate thickness and a bit creamy. Of average appeal.

Smell: A weak smell of musty esters, hard to detect with my broken nose.

Taste: A bland and off-balance body with a warm golden note of mild hops and a note of typical IPA bitterness, followed by my favourite part - the creamy-crisp finish. I'd like to see the bitterness better balanced with the finish. This IPA doesn't try to do much with the non-bitter notes and as a result it's built poorly for an IPA.

Mouthfeel: Smooth with a refreshing finish. A bit too wet on the opening. Overcarbonated.

Drinkability: I wouldn't have another, especially at this price point. It's an uninspired IPA compared to what else is available.

This is exactly what I want in an IPA. I'm not an overly big IPA guy and this might be sacrilege to my IPA-loving friends who always obsess over the hop character of every beer, but this one pretty much tops the list for me. It is full of flavor without going overboard. It is balanced between hops of a vaguely pine or pineapple sort, malts which taste like good bread, and an altogether pleasant medium between the two. It's an IPA which doesn't just taste like an IPA. It tastes like a beer too, and a very good one at that. It was my first introduction to BrewDog's brand of no-nonsense, punk-styled offerings and it will not be my last. So far I have found this to be good in bottles purchased here in the states as well as on tap at their Edinburgh location which I was fortunate to visit last week while vacationing there. This beer goes well with cheese and will forever occupy a place in my palate as the perfect example of hops that aren't over the top.

Clear golden, frothy lingering ivory head. Aroma is floral, resiny, oniony, and slightly citrusy. Flavor is more minerally and earthy, with a resonating bitterness at the finish. Malt is light and crackery, and there's a savory, herbal character throughout. Aroma and bittering hops override the flavoring hops. Not extreme in any direction.

12oz longneck

A) Pours with a finger thick head with amazing retention (still holding strong long after the pour). Hazy, golden body. Sticky, tight lacing clings to the glass on the drink down.
S) Peach. Sweet pine.
T) Hops are present from the beginning and are complimented well by the malt bill. Grainy. Citrus fruit - orange/lemon. Hints of black pepper.
M) Creamy. Medium light body. Smooth.
O) A delicious IPA.
