Notes/Commercial Description:
Welcome to a post Punk apocalyptic mother of an ale.

A beer that spent its formative years Blitzkrieg Bopping around India and the sub-continent.

This light, golden classic has been subverted with new world hops to create a devastating explosion of flavour. Steel yourself for Kalashnikov bursts of caramel, incendiary tropical fruit and an all-out riot of grapefruit, pineapple and lychee, before a spiky bitter finish.

This is quintessential Empire with an anarchic twist. Turn up the volume. Pay the man. Embrace the punked up, pimped up Maharajah of Pale Ales.

Nothing will ever be the same again.

330ml bottle into a Delerium Tremens tulip glass

Look: Quite dark for a pale ale - quite orange. Thin, off-white head which disappeared fairly quickly leaving a small amount of lacing. Definitely didn't see the retention that others have noted.

Smell: Has the same floral/citrusy/pine-resin smell as the 5am Saint red ale, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. If anything, it's quite a bit hoppier than the 5am Saint.

Taste: Hops. Boom! That's your lot - again, a beer which smells better than it tastes, at least to me. The taste can best be described as 'clean' and very astringent. Unfortunately, it's a bit *too* hoppy for my personal tastes.

Feel: Nothing special, really. Medium body and quite fizzy with it - the carbonation probably doesn't help with the bitterness.

Overall: To be fair, if you like your beer to be hoppy then chances are you'll like this - I'm planning to try it on tap at some point in the near future but the bottled beer doesn't really do it for me. Your own mileage will vary, but if you like your bear hoppy, you'll like this. If you're more of a malty/yeasty person then don't bother.

Format: a stumpy little blue 330mL can with the typically funky Brewdog label.

Appearance: poured into a tulip glass. Pours out a hazy amber-orange with a half-finger off-white head that drops to a thin cap with okay lacing.

Aroma: a very crisp and clean aroma of grapefruit and pineapple. Touch of malt.

Taste: pretty much follows the aroma - grapefruit, pineapple and some other tropical fruits here with that hop bitterness behind but not overpowering.

Aftertaste: the flavours drop away and it turns a little awkward bitterness.

Mouth feel: a medium body with a fairly sharp medium to higher carbonation. I think this one could use a touch less carbonation or a bit thicker body. Still, pretty good.

Overall: quite a nice AIPA from Brewdog, though it isn't quite as 'out there' as they might suggest. A fairly standard but nice IPA - if anything it could probably be a touch more hop-forward, which is something I don't usually say about IPAs. Still, a very nice example of the style, and decent at AU$90 a case - though probably for a 6-pack at a time.

I got a little excited on the pour, but it's a very active beer. Deep gold color and cloudy. Nose is that of strong hops and citrus. Taste is that of, again, hops and citrus. There is a pleasant sweet fruitiness, reminds me of ripe peaches. Very nice. Feel is smooth, with nice body for a lower ABV brew. The carbonation is very active, and pleasant. Overall a nice beer, and a slight departure from the norm. I can't see myself buying the 4pk, but I would certainly put one in a mix-six in the future.
