Notes/Commercial Description:
Welcome to a post Punk apocalyptic mother fucker of a pale ale.

A beer that spent its formative years Blitzkrieg bopping around India and the sub continent. Quintessential Empire with an anarchic twist.

God save the Queen and all who sail in her. Raising a Stiff Little Finger to IPAs that have come before and those it is yet to meet.
Turn up the volume Pay the man. Embrace the punked up, fucked up outlaw elite.

A - Pours cloudy and gold in color. One finger head that dissipates to a ring around the glass.

S - Citrus hops with a sweet malt and some honey characteristics.

T - Big grapefruit notes. Slightly floral. Not overly bitter.

M - Big on carbonation, crisp and refreshing to drink.

O - Such a great take on a Pale Ale. It's not mind blowing or earth shattering but a better option than SN-PA.

On-tap. Pint glass. Enjoyed on agt´11. Looks like amberish honey in color, chill haze. Off-white froth, rocky copious crown. Floral notes, cut grass, yeast to the nose. Hops are shown by overwhelm citric & piney aromas. Grapefruit tartiness combined with intense biscuit malts provides a complex but gentle bitter flavor. Dry mouthfeel . Medium body, moderate carbonation. Slightly buttery in the middle. Bitter hops on the aftertaste. Very easy drinkability & refreshing sensation. Perfect pairing with spicy fried chicken. Since I have enjoyed this well balanced huge beer many times on bottle I considered it a good one. Now, on-tap, I call her heavy gun.

I've avoided BrewDog due to freshness, but once I saw fresh cases come in to the local package store, I figured it was a good time to give it a go.

Pours a dark orange with a 2 finger spongy lace-leaving head. Floral hop aroma with some earthiness, caramel balancing sweetness. Some caramel tastes up front, with an initial and lingering bitterness. Hops were floral and earthy, with a bit of sweet citrus. Slick feel, with a slightly dry finish. Lighter bodied and smooth.

Best by date Feb 12, 2013. 330ml bottle poured into a snifter glass.

Pours a very nice, just barely hazy amber honey color with a nice thick frothy which head that leave honey comb like lacing and bubbles down the glass. Aromas of juicy pineapple, grapefruit, pine needles and tree sap. Malt aromas of brioche and honey nut chex cereal. Beautiful nose, totally unexpected after seeing all the brew dog bashing in the past. Taste is spot on, really reminds me of the better IPA's i have had in the past along the likes of Ballast Point sculpin and even ithaca flower power. Great upfront bitterness that gets calmed down by honey like sweetness and bread malts to balance everything out. Really a great beer, and perfect for have a few of these in a row. Solid carbonation and really refreshing quality while still making this a beer to enjoy by the sip and not gulp down. Overall i would be hard pressed to find an american IPA that could deliver much more. I put this up there with Ithaca Flower Power IPA for sure which is my all time favorite IPA. Solid brew, worth seeking out.

Picked this up at the Bierkoning shop in Amsterdam. I love their logo and the artsy label they are using for all their beers.

A: Nice head while pouring, about 1-2 cm stays on top. Alot of carbonation in the beginning and clean, deep golden color.

S: Smell is quite appealing. Smells of citrus, hops and a little hint of yeast.

T: Wow. It's not what I expected, but I quite enjoy it. The taste of herbal and citrus are quite dominant.Nice balanced aftertaste.

M: Nice amount of carbonation. Good medium body mouth-feel and pretty dry palate.

O: The first sip was a surprise but I quite enjoy the beer now!

I think this beer is somewhat too artistic. Too punky.

L: great top; golden colour;
S: strong grapefruit, hops, hemp and green/raw vegetables.
T: grapefruit, some candy comes through, very hoppy;
M: road block dryness; not my style; to offensive; alcohol feels very heavy, but isn't (5,6%);
O: a 4.0 for originality, nice to have tasted.

Call me average but its 4's all around.

A: nice yellowish gold color with slight haze, possible due to temp. Lots of big bubbles in the head dying down to a nice lacing layer of fine white 'foam'.

Very standard IPA appearance and seeing as they are pretty beers then the score is: 4

S: Hops! very citrus dominated with some pine and lychee. Very American smelling with no obvious Scottish/UK influence to the nose despite its origins. However, I am sure they were going for this all along

Nice American IPA smell, score is:4

T: Again hoppy. Similar to the smell but with slight sweet malt on the back end. Little bitter but not 'Lemon face' Bitter. Nice dry taste as a good IPA should be

Burp tasted very nice too. (A very good thing)

Score is: 4

M: Nice amount of carbonation. Good medium bodies mouth-feel and pretty dry palate.

Score is: 4

O: Generally a very nice American style IPA. Overall is a 4 as this beer is a very solid IPA from a good brewery.

Doesnt try to be anything it is not and has a great balance. Could quite easily do 4 of these and not bat an eyelid.

A 4 instead of a 5 as I am a harsh scorer and this is a very solid beer. It does not push the boat out too far and leaves that for other brews by the same company.

Great all round beer

Bought this one in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Color is light copper with a nice dense foamy head on top of it. The foam is creamy looking and sticks well to the glass. The aroma is dominated by citrus and piny. Thirsty. The malt base is caramel. Nice balanced. On the taste, it is more grapefruits and it is warm in the mouth. The finish is dry, bitter and it lingers in the mouth for a good amount of time. Light notes of caramel. Well balanced. Medium body. Very refreshing and so good on the taste. Quite aggressive. Very good.

While tasting Sunk Punk, one of us had the idea of purchasing a Punk IPA and comaring the two side by side. Apparently this is a new version, and as a side prize, this is my first can from BrewDog. On to the beer:

Toasted orange, but with long lasting foam and reasonable lace. In comparison to the Sunk Punk, the nose is more attractive. The scents of clean pine, orange, and tangerine are all attractive and bright to the senses.

Looks like this Punk IPA will have two comparisons. I not only prefer the taste of this over Sunk Pine, but this tastes better than the original 6.0% ABV Punk IPA. There a little toffeeiish malt for the canvas, and the hops come in and paint the canvas with clean pine, assorted fruits, and tangerine. It's medium bodied, and is an easy one to get down.

This "renovated" version is better than I remember it as. An IPA that is refreshing as it is delicious.

Pours hazy gold with moderate lacing. Two-finger eggshell white head. Tiny puddle of lasting foam.

Classic northwest grapefruit citrusy hop aroma. Bready sweet malt, with honey notes coming through. Clean yeast, no esters or other off aromas.

Flavor is grapefruit hops with quick sharp bitterness that fades nicely to low background notes. Slightly sweet up front but finishes medium dry. Hops dominate flavor, not as malty as the aroma.

Medium body with medium prickly carbonation.

Simple, but nicely done citrus hop showcase without being overly bitter.

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a large snifter glass.

A: Pours a hazy orangish-yellow hue with a thick, frothy, white, 2-finger, white head that slowly dissipates into a solid persistent lace leaving a nice trail down the glass.

S: Slightly hoppy and sweet malty aroma followed by hints of pine.

T: Similar to the smell a piney aroma with a hoppy background and sweet malt finish.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: This is a very good well-balanced IPA. Not as hoppy as some IPAs but the balance makes it very enjoyable

330ml bottle poured into tulip 13/2/12

A clear golden yellow with a few bubbles feeding a
nice thumbs width of foam that hangs around long enough
to leave a bunch of random lace down the glass

S smells solid with lots of tropical fruits, pineapple,
tangerine, guava and some grapefruit, I also pick up on
just a little pine and sweet malt. there's some balance
but its mostly a tropical hop bomb

T more malt then the nose with more citric rind then fruity
flesh, some caramels in the mouth and some balance to go with it, taste is quite good but the nose was better

M medium bodied with just enough carbonation, a mild bite
to it and a nice citric rind aftertaste lingers for a while
but is fairly mellow

O I considered a perfect score for smell and 4.5 crossed
my mind for taste so a slightly higher score here. when I consider it's only 5.6% I like it even more, very easy to drink and I'm not walking sideways

Pretty happy with this one, no real complaints and a fair bit to be pleased with. A nice session IPA if there is such a thing and I can see myself buying more of this

172nd Review
Served in a glass
On-draft at The Black Sheep

A: Bright copper. Single (frothy white) fingernail head.

S: Not much of a nose here - simply a hint of dull hops and that's about it. I even asked my wife to take a sniff; unfortunately she can't stand the smell of IPAs, but she couldn't even place this one.

T: Wow - the smell is very deceiving because this beer taste really, really good. Hop explosion straight away! Pine, citrus, and earthy notes follow nicely. Loads of balanced hops and malt start-to-finish which is very enjoyable.

M: Medium/full bodied with moderate carbonation. Quite thick and coating.

O: I'll be honest here: 1) I was afraid that this beer was going to suck based on the smell, but the taste is just brilliant. 2) It is possible that my review is a bit skewed at the moment for this beer as I really miss "fresh" American IPA's and this one snuck up on me at the right moment. This beer drinks very nicely and is quite tasty all-around. If you don't have access to the classic "hop bombs" and this one is around, it will surely wet/satisfy your palate. Nice job BrewDog!

Imbibed 2/7/2012. Best before 7/28/2012. Batch 307. I noticed there are two versions of this and I definitely had the 6.0% ABV version.

Pours a pale straw with one finger head. Fair clarity. Laces lazily, a bit hesitantly. Sweet, floral hop aroma, like in a garden. Sweet, delicate pale malt to match. Great mild biscuit aroma with some piney hops coming out with a good swirl. Very inviting. Pale malt, almost sweet flavor. Gets pulled to bitter with a good floral, nectary sweetness. Mouthfeel is balanced with a dry finish.

I really enjoyed this beer due to its restraint. It could have gone too far in one way or another, but it seemed very well rounded and balanced. It was bordering on sweet a couple times, but it never crossed the line. A very enjoyable, light IPA. If they brought down the ABV to a sessionable level, then I'd make this my stand by.

I've been looking forward to trying some beer from this company for some time now. They have some great videos on their website.

Bottle acquired from Dusty's Cellar in Okemos.

very citrusy in the nose. other scents include sugary sweetness and some spicy pepperiness. Not very powerful.

pours about 2 fingers of fluffy (weird cloud like formations) off-white head. head is retained really well and clumps of lacing. very hazy yellow-orange colored beer.

very nice bitterness in the finish. seems a bit more hot then it is. Very similar to the nose, some floral hops and grassiness come through more in the taste. medium bodied pretty high carbonation making it a bit on the coarse side, but the medium body make it still smooth.

O: To me it kinda seems like a hoppy pale, not an American IPA. Still pretty good. I'm surprised im one of the handfuls of people who have ratted this beer in the US. Anyone need a bottle? Dusty's Cellar is stocked!

Poured from 11.2 oz. bottle into Samuel Adams pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a nice unfiltered hazy golden hue with a bone white three-finger head. Moderate lacing left on the glass.

Smell: Delicious floral and citrus hops dominate. Very little malt character.

Taste: It's great. A nice mixture of floral and citrus hops, which is the dominant character throughout. A nice mild lingering bitterness is also present throughout the beer.

Mouthfeel: Nice and crisp; light to moderate body and high carbonation.

Overall: An awesome IPA that I am sad to see on the retired list, as I would have bought this multiple times. Hopefully the lower ABV version is just as good.

Testing this IPA well chilled poured from a bottle into a tulip taster glass.

A: The color is typical light-gold/yellowish, it's pale with a little cloudiness. When poured from the bottle a nice foamy head is created. Looks very appitizing.

S: Very pleasent, fresh and hoppy. The smell is like the appearance, very appitizing.

T: The taste is fresh and hoppy with a pleasent bitterness hitting you as soon swallow. Just as you could expect from the appearance and smell. For a 5.6% abv this ipa is loaded with great hops falvours, you can get some almost nectar-like hints that you get from 2x-ipa/IIPA:s.

M: A crips pleasent feel, lots of small carbonation bubblles going on in your mouth

O: A great IPA with lots of goodness from 2x/IIPA:s going on here, combined with a pretty low abv (5.6) this one got great drinkability.

Best before 18-02-12, just made it. Is this really retired?

Appearance is really beautiful. Enormous and thick, billowy white head with a classic unfiltered cloudy golden body.

Noise is too light, not enough there. What there is of it is pleasantly sharp hops.

Flavor is crisp, smooth and balanced IPA. Moderate malt backbone with a citrusy hop bite on the finish. At 6%, this is no palate wrecker, it's just a good, solid flavorful IPA.

Mouthfeel is aspirin chalky, toothstripping goodness.

Excellent drinkability. This would make a good session IPA, like Harpoon or Smutty Finest Kind.

330 mL bottle tried 23 Oct 2010. Courtesy of L&D, thank you! Served in the 0.5 L Adambrau becker.

Best before date 29/07/11, batch 204.

Large thick off white head. Lightly carbonated. Clear bright orange color. Citrus, resin and grainy sweetness in the aroma. Grapefruit pithiness dominates the taste. Some citrus juicy sweetness as well. Finishes with a lingering bittersweetness, lot of grapefruit. Medium to light body, alcohol noticeable but not hot.

A bit of a bitter little beer.

Though BA says this beer is retired and that only the 5.6% is brewed, I picked up this 6.0% beer from my local just last weekend. It's fresh. Batch 307 with a best before date of 28-07-2012 (July 28th, 2012). Alcohol is listed at 6% by volume. 11.2 ounce format.

A mix of gold and copper in color, Punk IPA appears to be a beer of clarity. A closer look reveals an opaque brew with low carbonation a quickly dissipating snow-white head.

This Punk doesn't hide its bouquet of floral and citrus. While the nose is dominated by what most would deem Northwest hops, there is a slight suggestion of pine in the background. Pale malt hides around the corner. After tasting, I perceive a bit of honey in the aroma as well.

Noticeably sweeter at first than most IPAs that I've had, the first flavors that hit me are rather muted cousins of the bouquet. While the bitterness is there, don't expect an ass puckering... Bitterness actually balances each sip much in the way an ESB would, without calling out obvious hoppy roots. Don't get me wrong, citrus is there (grapefruit and a bit of pineapple), but the taste is rather malt and bitter forward without much flavor from the hops that create this brew's great aroma.

This beer really does drink like a summer's day ESB. An easy one to session up and throw back, Punk IPA is a medium/light to medium bodied brew that lacks any formidable traits that one can really call attention to. In my opinion, Punk would be great canned for summer activities but isn't necessarily memorable.
