Notes/Commercial Description:
Welcome to a post Punk apocalyptic mother fucker of a pale ale.

A beer that spent its formative years Blitzkrieg bopping around India and the sub continent. Quintessential Empire with an anarchic twist.

God save the Queen and all who sail in her. Raising a Stiff Little Finger to IPAs that have come before and those it is yet to meet.
Turn up the volume Pay the man. Embrace the punked up, fucked up outlaw elite.

hazy orange amber with a huge white pillow like head on top. Very and I mean very slowloy receded and left behind lots of lace down the glass. Big time visible sediment here, bottom of the glass was covered.

huge hoppy fiesta. Big profile was filled with hints of orange, grapefruit and pineapple. As it warmed a slight sweetness started to come through, citrus centric hoppy IPA, my favorite kind. It was smooth as silk going down and left a nice dry tingling aftertaste, left a long lingering flavor that stayed behind for a good 15 mins. This was very nice and seemed to get better as I kept drinking.

Had from a bottle. Poured a light golden color with a moderate white head. Mostly receded, leaving a bit of lacing. Aroma is that of earthy hops...grass, pine...some citrus. Smells very hoppy...maybe a touch of sweet malts at most. Tastes of earthy hops...very bitter up front with a dry finish. Well balanced I guess, even though there wasn't a lot of complexity to it.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Very, very basic IPA. Not bad by any means, in fact I thought it was good enough, but nothing special. I wouldn't have it again, but it's worth trying once for the experience.

This beer pours a light bodied and thin bright yet watery gold in color with a slight white lacing around the glass. It smells very dry and bitter. It's somewhat piny and features some light honey like malts. Again, it's very bitter. The taste is pretty one dimensional. It's just dry and bitter without depth or complexity. It is very light in body and would be far too easy to drink if you liked your IPAs like this, or if it weren't $16 a four pack. Overall this is a mediocre beer for a premium price.

People are always knocking brew dog but this beer is very well made. Marked enjoy by end of December. Very cloudy blonde color with good sticky head. Smells dry and yeasty with a lot of bread and bitterness. Well carbonated. Very biscuity malt with dry bitter hops, not much fruit or pine very different and enjoyable.

Taken from older notes I never got around to reviewing.

A - Poured into a regular pint glass. Very orange in color and not very clear. Quite hazy actually. Thick white head good lacing and retention

S - Sort of a bitter/sweet hop smell. Some citrus and a sort of pine characteristic.

T - Good balance between hops and malt, almost more of a malty bitterness really. Really enjoyable citrus notes that linger on the tongue.

M - Classic single IPA mouth feel. Not too heavy and not too light. Good body to it

T - Solid. Really like this beer, it isnt over the top its a good representation of a single IPA. Good balance and good body to it.

m - very creamy and smooth.
o - nice beer but i need a little more pop in this one.

Poured out with a strong sweet aroma that’s distinctly says “I’m an IPA”. This is a cloudy IPA, but it’s a nice soft golden color and is topped with a nice thick (three fingers thick) and bubbly head. It gives off a really pleasant aroma; I picked up some orange, grapefruit and pair. Hops and some wheat are present as well along with a slight banana bread smell. It’s light and crisp when it first hits your tongue, it does leave a mild film in your mouth. It’s mildly bitter on the sides of your mouth and tart as you swallow, it reminds me of a very sharp cheddar. It’s very smooth and leaves a slight alcohol aftertaste too! Very nice lacing too! The bitterness calms down after it warms up a bit, but so does the flavor, this is better tasting when its chilled.
...Word of caution, this beer should be drunk with a hot naked babe next to you!

Decent clarity, although a little hazy. A very light orange hue and yellow highlights with a bunch of visible carbonation. Lots of ivory head that dissapates unevenly and slowly, leaving lots of pretty lacing behind in rings. Smells of citrus hops remiscent of canned tangerines. Nice, albeit small, backing from the malts. Hint of booze.

Pretty bitter in a sharp and quick way with a clean feel. Somewhat harsh and seems to lack a balancing effect for that harshness. The flavors are balanced okay between the malts and citrus notes that come from the hops, but the bitterness is a little out there, even for the style. It starts very strongly bitter, gives way to the delicious citrus flavors, and then resurfaces in the aftertaste. The grain bill does its part in trying to calm the harshness, but thats a tough job. I actually really like the intense bitterness, but it might be off-putting for some. A hint of booziness just to remind you that its there. The mouthfeel is actually a little creamy, but crisp and dry in a long lingering finish. Overall, I like this beer but don't know if I'd seek it out again.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass

Nice white head of foam on the top that lingers lightly giving off a nice hoppy aroma

Pale yellow in color slightly cloudy

Gives of a nice clean hoppy smell that not too bitter. This IPA is diffidently on the floral/citrisy side of IPAs rather than the grassy bitter side.

At 6%ABV it's not too strong, it's a nice cool refreshing IPA that doesn't leave you searching for a glass of water after.

If you're gonna call yourself Punk, then I expect you to live up to it. This isn't a bad beer, but it's definitely missing the spiked, torn body slam I was looking for. I expected to get a punch in the face but got a sneer and a sound tickling instead. I was really looking forward to getting in the pit when I brought this home, but the band never turned up to the gig.

I like the hazy glow and the head forms thick with a moderately aggressive pour. Tropical fruits on the nose, medium mouthfeel, bitter, dry finnish. The soft-core carbonation really leaves it begging to be elevated though. I can't quite place what it's missing but it's def. missing something.

It's drinkable. I wouldn't turn one down if it was offered, but it certainly felt far from punk.

BrewDog Punk IPA, ABV: 5.6%.
330 ml bottle, 18.90 SEK at Systembolaget.

A: A hazy liquid, with a bright golden, almost orange colour, and a big, white head that leaves a huge amount of retention.

S: Humongous, fruity and hoppy aroma. I can already sense how bitter and piney this beer is. I get big notes of citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, mandarins), peaches, pineapples, herbs, spices (most notably ginger) and vanilla ice cream as well.

T: Here are fruity and floral hops, green grapes, plums, oranges, apricots, wheat and rye bread, herbs and spices, pine needles, a hint of vanilla, and a small sweetness. It's rather bitter - but not as bitter (or aggressive) as I remember the old 6% version.

M: The body is medium. The liquid is kind of sticky and smudgy. The drinkability is good, but probably to a certain point - that's just a feeling I get, I only had one bottle.

O: The BrewDog 'Punk' is still a widely available classic at the Swedish monopoly - a very fruity, tasty and enjoyable American IPA. To be perfect this would need more balance (the taste is good, but it is all over the place, and hard to get a grip of) and perhaps a less messy texture - but why complain? I like it.

Dry. Very dry. Almost bland but there's something more going on here.
Boring? Almost.
Solid backbone with an easy drinking experience. Clear notes of lemon and marijuana.
Very much the little brother of their Hardcore IPA that was discontinued for some reason.

Appearance Liquid is a clear and yellow golden one, with a build up of about a centimeter of head, heavily staining my wine hock glass.

Smell I detect a very potent fusion of black currant and passionfruit, followed by some mild background hops.

Taste This IPA enters sweet then turns bitter and kind of astringent on me, crawling onto the back of my tongue. It’s packed with passion fruit and black currant plus lemon/lime and herbal flavors. All in all this reminds me of some of the ales Jessica Heidrich concocts.

Mouthfeel Medium body with lush bubbles rolling over my tongue. This makes me happy!

This top-selling IPA from BrewDog has been available in bottles for a while now, recently they also added a canned version at Systembolaget.

Punk IPA is a doubled edged story, on the one hand I’m crazy about this sort of flowery and tangy IPA, on the other it’s a bit over the top. I mean half way through the bottle it’s like you’re mowing your way through auntie’s prized flower bed. Yucky!

picked up a single 12 oz bottle, just to try, from the Beer Junction in West Seattle. poured into pint glass.

pours a white, 1/2" head with moderate frothy lacing. a bright golden amber in color with orange tint, mildly hazy.

citrus and orange peels. pine-sol. hop, almost oatmeal aroma.

taste is strong of piney, lemony hops. not much there, damn hoppy.

staunch on-bringing, packs quite a punch for a mere 6.0%.
pale, stale wheat straw aftertaste. dry, hop-tingling finish.

a Scottish ale modeled after an American IPA, carrying a name generating from an English style...hmm. a paradox just as odd as this low alc./vol. (for its style) taste bud slapper.

This can was straight from the brewery by courier so should be in top condition.

Pours a perfectly clear golden colour with a large, smooth white head. Fair head retention and nice lacing.

A bright, citrus hop aroma with some light Nelson Sauvin notes. This fades into a dank, redolent hop resin note with some very light malt.

Crisp pale malt with a hefty dose of grassy and citrussy hops. These guys have toned down the bitterness in this version but made the hop character longer lasting and more pleasant. The fruity hop notes are really good here.

Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Good.

A really solid American IPA. The fruity hop character comes across as fresh despite being 4 months old. Really, really good.

Hazy golden-orange, lightly carbonated with 1/2 inch head.

Pine and floral, but mainly pine.

Initial sweetness with slight bitterness, moving on to a lasting bitter finish.

Lightly carbonated and dry.

Very drinkable, with a decent kick of hops, but not an overpowering one. The four-pack of cans seems like an ideal serving!

A - Murky orange colour, a weak frothy head and minimal lacing.

S - Tropical fruits abound. Kiwifruit, passionfruit and mango. Even some cherry in there.

T - Heavy on the hop bitterness with 65 IBUs but the hop flavour transcends. The same tropical fruits and sweet malt.

M - Moderate in body and sharp in the bite. The bitterness lingers all over the tongue.

O - Solid, juicy (and affordable) Amercian style IPA. Recommended.

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Light tan, yellow, nice creamy 1 inch head, plenty of lacing.

Smell - Hops, light floral fruits, malts, orange, pineapple, lemon. Some sugars and spices also.

Taste - Bold strong hops, not so sweet and fruity, more maltly, and boozy. Orange and pineapple is main hoppy flavor. Very grassy, earthy feel. There is some spices that come in at the end.

Mouthfeel - Bold hops coat tounge and bitter pallette. Some malt sweetness comes in along with some alcohol. Aftertaste is bitter and dry.

Overall - This is different from the most ipa's ive had. The beer could use other hops to add some much need floral flavor. Not bad but not great. A bit out of balance but pretty good for a change of pace.

An orangey, mango like colour that is very slightly cloudy and settles with a pinky sized head that has good retention & some lacing as well.

A fruity mango aroma with hint of pine although not as strong as that from the bottled version. A very nice and appealing smell, one of the best from a beer so far.

Again very simliar to the smell with a nice mango and blended fruit flavour that is quite sweet. There is a mildy bitter aftertaste that finishes the drink off nicely.

Medium bodied and very smooth, a little creamy too. A nice combination.

Has a lot less bitter, more sweet/fruity flavour than the bottle version with mango being the main taste & smell in this version.

Poured into a weizen glass.

A - Bronze coloration, thick head of pillowy froth, good retention, and some visible lace to boot. Quite attractive.

S - Pungent floral hop bouquet with some citrus notes. Must be a ton of aromatic hops in here, because the smells are very vibrant.

T - Nice floral profile, fairly hoppy, and with a mild malt backing. Straightforward, yet tasty.

M - Light bodied with a medium carbonation level. Feels clean and finishes with a flowery aftertaste.

D - Flavorful and easy to drink; I like it. Miles above their Double IPA I'd say.

I drank this from an English pub glass...

It is a pale yellow color with a thick filmy white head that left plenty of lacing. The smell has a lot of tropical hops, mango, guava with orange and grapefruit and just a hint of caramel malt. Bitter up front with lemon and pineapple, some hints of pine and citrus peel with a bitter finish. The beer is medium bodied with lots of soft carbonation and a wonderfully dry finish. This a beautifully crafted beer, I would drink this any time.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a pint glass

A- Hazy golden/amber color with a thick white head.

S- Floral, malty hops.

T- Very earthy. Malty, sweet, with lots of hops bitterness that varied in strength from sip to sip. Tasted a little bit tea as well. It was strange, tasted like a cross between an American IPA and an English IPA.

M- Decent carbonation.

O- This is an unusual IPA that I am glad I got the opportunity to try. It's a worth a try and I will most likely have it again. Although this won't be a regular for me since it isn't widely available to me and is a bit overpriced.

A - Pours a hazy light copper with a firm inch of fluffy white head. No bubbles of carbonation are visible. The head refuses to drop and is easily refreshed. Great looking beer.

S - Citrus, pine, floral, toffee. There's more there, but it hidden at the back.

T - Starts with floral, the piney hops. Caramel moves forward in the middle of the drink and fills out towards the end. Long, dry piney hop aftertaste.

M - Medium mouthfeel with soft carbonation, which suits the beer.

D - Very drinkable. A sipper with a nice, refined hop kick.
