Dark cloudy orange amber with big yellow-tan foamy head. Musty citrus aroma with light earthiness. Strong hops up front disappear very quickly in a strong sweet malt finish. Notes of toffee in the malt. There is a bite in the finish and a lingering hop taste of grapefruit and earth. Foamy and thick feel with a light tackiness.
I’m afraid this is not the “hardcore” IPA a west coast IPA drinker would look for, however there are some interesting qualities in the malts. Hops build up but it’s still relatively balanced. Alcohol is well blended but overall it’s not totally impressive for a DIPA. Perhaps an intriguing brew if found on tap. Or a fresher bottle (or now that I’ve looked on here, the 2nd edition which I believe I had the first…)
