Friday night and a 4:00 am wake-up on Saturday morning. These should help me sleep.
4-pack of 11.2 oz bottles for $7.99 (I think the store claimed it was $19.99 usually, which affected my purchase. Was going to buy a bomber of Lagunitas Hop-Stoopid ($4.49). Expires Aug 19, 2011.
Imported from Scotland!
Look - Orange end of the day smoky sunset. Hazy. Poured carefully into a pint glass obtained a 1/2 inch head. Second round poured quickly yielded a 1 1/2 inch head, and that was impressive. Lacing moderately persistent.
Smell - Underwhelming malt sweetness with none of the citrus whiffs expected. Smell is not bad at all. Clean. Sweet.
Taste - Big alcohol content quickly muffled and overwhelmed by hops, then a malty sticky sweetness, and then a strong piney hop bitterness to finish. I like it. Big. Sweet pine sap bitter after taste lingers for a long time, perhaps 15 minutes at least. Delicious.
Mouthfeel - Carbonation is mild, and invites the taste buds to absorb the experience. This one could be consumed warm maybe (?!). The mouthfeel invites swilling, and exploring the depth of the bitterness.
Overall - Satisfying. Delicious. Strong. Glad I tried it. Impressive.

Bottle: 330mL brown bottle. Pretty plain, yet kind of stylish. At least it's different.
Appearance: pours a hazy / murky copper-orange colour with a big ivory head that drops quickly to a solid, rocky two-fingers. Great lacing.
Aroma: plenty of toasted malts, caramel and toffee, with some citrus hops over the top. Not quite as hop-orientated as I expected.
Taste: much the same on the palate - caramel and toffee, some liquorice with bright hops along for the ride. Not an unpleasant beer, but certainly not what I was expecting from a 'Hardcore IPA'.
Aftertaste: all of the flavours hang about for quite a time, with some bitterness finally coming through.
Mouth feel: a moderate body with low carbonation. I can't help thinking it could have used a bit more carbonation to spruce up the hops a bit.
Overall: not a bad beer, but I certainly wouldn't have given it the moniker 'Hardcore IPA'. Still quite drinkable, but not for AU$140 a case (2014).
