Notes/Commercial Description:
This Imperial India Pale Ale rocks…hardcore! But don’t take our word for it...this little bottle has a grandiloquent story to tell.

2,204 malted Maris Otter grains gave all they had to offer the world to provide the robustly delicate toffee malt canvas for the ensuing epic. 4 Hop Cones willingly sacrificed themselves to ensure your mouth feels punished and puckering for more. 9,900,000,000 yeast cells frantically fermented their little hearts out as the sugars became alcohol in the depths of our fermentation tanks.

2 humans and 1 canine companion were relatively happy with the results.

11.2oz bottle poured into a tulip.

Best before 08/28/2012

A - Pours a cloudy and murky burnished orange color with two fingers of bubbly, light-tan head. The retention is decent, and a soapy cap drifts lazily on top of the liquid when it recedes. Sticky lacing precariously hangs on, but gradually washes away with the strain of gravity.

S - The nose immediately brings a strong presence of C-hops with bold aromas of pine, soap, and especially grapefruit. Somewhat fruity, but the bitterness is almost palpable here. A touch of sweetness from the malts, but that impression is fleeting even as I type.

T - The flavors initially start with a puff of sweetness and caramel, but the bitterness practically explodes from these hops. Resinous pine gives off a sticky feel and flavor, and from there it's nearly all grapefruit. With this type of hop profile, sometimes you can get the residual flavors from oranges and other citrus, but this is pretty tightly contained to grapefruit. The malts do give off a slight brown sugar sweetness in the background, mixing with a touch of soap and alcohol.

M - Mouthfeel is moderately heavy-bodied with good carbonation. The hops leave a sticky, heavy feeling on the palate, and the abundance of hops lends to a long-lasting bitterness that lingers well into the finish.

D/O - Drinkability is moderate. This is pretty impressive in terms of inking out every last IBU from the hops, but in terms of flavor I found this to be a little lacking. The amount of bitterness that starts in the flavor and draws out in the finish is somewhat expected but still doesn't absolve it as a distraction. If you don't mind a face-smacking bitterness, seek this out.

I found this treasure in the $1 bargain bin at one of our local liquor stores!

It says it is "best before 01-02-14" but in April 2014, it is still outstanding.

Rich alcoholic hop-laden aroma.

Pours a bright hazy orange with a lingering light tan head.

Flavor is rich and balanced. Layers and layers of hops (almost oily with them) and malt. Some coppery notes (which I adore), some chewy wheat bread. A little bit of spices. The aftertaste starts sweet but then ends on a hoppy bitter note. Absolutely beautiful. Sunset in a glass.

Nice full thick mouthfeel. Very full with some almost oily elements (I mean this in a good way) but with a little bit of faint carbonation prickle. Almost like velvet.

An extremely good beer. The best I've had in awhile. Worth buying even if it isn't in the bargain bin. I almost wonder if the cheesy "HARDCORE" name and label design scares people off. This is a very tasty, thoughtful brew.

A hazy amber ale that pours a fluffy, off-white head that fades quickly. Smells faintly of hop tanginess. Tastes malty followed by a nice hoppy bite and a copper/metallic tang reminiscent of a Dogfish Head 60. Hides the alcohol well but you'll feel it quickly. Mouthfeel is full and creamy.

This beer packs a very hard punch, it kicks the shi.. out of your taste buds in a single sip! Almost comparable to what a hard liquor would do! Nice texture and body! definitely not for pussies! Overall a very dry IPA excellent for Loud music and spicy foods.

The Hardcore IPA has one of the best aromas I have smelt. The taste is amazing. It is the best IPA I have ever tasted. I work at Bayway Market as a beer specialist and I really recommend this IPA to people. Anyone in Coos Bay, Oregon that prefers a really good IPA then come into Bayway Market and pick one up. We have the best prices in town.

I have had mixed reactions after tasting some of the Brewdog stuff, some I like some I dont, this I liked.Poured into a imperial nonic a brilliant copper color with a well sustained 1/2 finger white head that left broken lace behind as it settled slowly.A mix of resiny hop and English malt in the nose, more hop assertive than I thought it would be really.Flavors remind me more of a big American strong ale than anything else, big dose of piney hop, with big leathery notes as well as some fruity esters from the malt, alcohol creeps with its sweetness and sharpness coming in late as I drink more, there is a big biscuity almost sweet dough-like malt base thruought.I like it,its better than expected and almost feel like Iam drinkin an Old Guardian from recent years, well not quite as good.

Appearance - This is a deep copper gold in color with a big, gigantic head that showed great retention.

Smell - There's a nice, juicy caramel malt backbone to this DIPA along with big, monstrous citrus hops. This is huge but rightly balanced.

Taste - The sharp, intense citrus notes are mixed with sweet, caramel-laden sugars that just explode with flavor in the mouth. The malts are very sweet and sugary and have a high quality character to them. The hops are large and in charge but not overpowering.

Mouthfeel - This is medium-bodied with some nice, light carbs and a collected but serious bitter character.

Drinkability - This is a big but approachable hopper that is chewy and quite fun to drink.

Bought a 4-Pack of bottles for $14.99.

A: Glowing amber poured with almost no head. Lacing not as heavy as expected.
A little bit of a letdown with the appearance.

S: What a unique nose for a DIPA. Quite floral and fruity with the alcohol apparent as well.
A little bit of tropical notes apparent as well.

T & M: Wow, what a hop bomb! Balance is not on top of this brews qualities.
I am a hop fan and this one delivers.

D: Drinkability not a strong trait of this brew. An interesting take but for the money
I don't think I'll be having this beer again.

Brew Dog Hardcore IPA explicit imperial ale brewed in Aberdeensire Scotland 9% alcohol. 22.4oz. bottle with black background and baby blue writing very appealing.

A- Pours a hazed glowing orange fluid with Ipa written all over it. Bubbly head that falls to a stiff loosely bubbled ring and massive sticky lacing on the glass.

S- Smell is a very fresh tangerine and citrus mix almost like it was squeezed recently with hints of alcohol esters tingling the nose.

T-M- Like the smell "fresh" with tangerine and citrus hops upfront. Second is a slightly minty and warm flavor due to the hops and alcohol as well excellent. Malts are very hidden in this DIPA probably due to that being the point. Ibu's seem low but this beer is a great drinking beer. Mouthfeel is smooth but has a astringent lingering feel on the finish... but all and all dry after it subsides.

D- I would love to find this one on tap at a local pub and have a few extra fresh pints or even a beer to go store... cheers!

Im worried about this review. Ive never reviewed a beer at BA that has such a low rating. I fear my preinformation might diswade me from a proper review. Ill do my best.

Pours a unfiltered yellow, pretty light. Head a bit foamy. Not normal for me. Also, there was a bit of head in the bottle that wouldnt go away.

Hoppy smell, though not a hop that Im a fan of. Almost smells german pils. Maybe some citrus, though not over the top. No malt present.

Sweet, bitter, sugar. Weird malt flavor, maybe honey though seems pretty processed. Almost like an artificial sweetner like sweet-n-low.

Sits well, not very balanced though flavor wise. ABV doesnt fit 9%.

This is going to be difficult to finish.

There's nothing prettier than an IPA, and this one is no exception. Dark amber color, thick white head, tons of lace. A unidimensional aroma of citrus. Huge, huge grapefruit taste. This is a true hop bomb. Couldn't detect much in the way of a malt influence with all those hops. Pretty good beer, but just drink one at a time because your tastebuds won't be able to take it.

tastes like a boozy sierra nevada. Brewdog will never get all that much love out here for an IPA. It was irresponsible even buying it, knowing that the hops were probably poorly cared for in transport, and knowing that this is southern california and we drink Pliny all day. All and all, this beer isnt crap but its by no means good. Im sure to a scotsman its hoppy and delicious. to a so cal local its a heaping pint of lame sauce

Cloudy copper pour, a little darker than I expected. nice off white head.

Smells of gobs of fruity hops on the nose. faint nutty, toffee malt backdrop.

Bitter start makes my right eye wink a few times. After a few gulps, the malt coats the palate, and becomes the dominant flavor.

My burps taste like hops.

Alcohol is very well hidden for 9.2% abv. Feeling a head buzz already.

Nothing outstanding here, but it's very drinkable and one of these bombers will leave you feeling right.

12 ounce bottle, no bargain at $3.59! Purchased @ DeCiccios's in Ardsley, NY. Batch 072, with best before dating of "28/03/11" Ah those Europeans...gotta love em... Pours lighter, on the golden amber side, hazed, with a dull orange hue. Moderate and loose darker eggshell head. Thin film, collar and plenty of fine, loose sheeting and strands of lace left on the glass. Minor hops and light cookie dough on the nose. Easy drinking and quite enjoyable. Alcohol masterfully hidden. Plenty of grapefruit hop notes, undercoating of caramel tinged maltyness. Well done. Cost is prohibitive, doubtful I'd go for this one again due to this factor. Glad I gave it a try as its a nice subtle take on the ever popular and enjoyable DIPA style.

This is the new version, with the tweaked recipe and 9.2 percent alcohol.

The beer pours a orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is orange and grapefruit hops with some resin mixed in. The flavor is orange and pine with some caramel malt. Medium bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. I think this batch was better than the first batch.
