Punk IPA, then Hardcore IPA ... what's next, Post-Hardcore IPA? Emo IPA? (That'd be good for crying in your beer...)
Might be being harder on this beer than I should because of the packaging, but anything that calls itself "Hardcore" had better be pretty extreme. This is a beer on the brash side of polite, but it's not eating its own young. An average golden-rusty IPA appearance with low-moderate lacing, smells floral-hoppy and strong undistinguished malts. Taste is hoppy, but not in the way you'd expect from a DIPA. More malt-forward than anything, with good bitterness ... really, almost a barleywine. I'd be inclined to call this a strong Englis ale. Too much heat for a DIPA (the alcohol taste really shows here). I do like the earthy endnote of this beer - whatever it is, I would like to see it ramped up in another brew. Could drink a lot of it, but half a bottle already has me slightly buzzed. Yes, I'm cheap. But this beer wasn't.
Nice try, no prize.
