Beer Dog's Rip Tide, a 'twisted merciless stout' served from a bottle into a sierra nevada laser etched tulip glass.
After reading about all of the hubaloo over Tokyo (banned in England 18% beer) and tactical Penguin (not yet banned, but the most potent beer to date at 32%) I figured I'd give a beer of theirs a shot. Rip Tide pours a dark dark brown with virtually no head, even with a hard pour. Smell is off coffee and malts. Taste is of coffee, malt, bitter dark chocolate, and a slight hop finish. For an 8% beer it is fairly easy to drink, with its light mouth feel. The alcohol is well hidden, not that 8% is too potent. I'd almost call it sessionable. All told, were I to assign a letter grade (I've been doing such things a lot lately...) I'd give it a C+. It isn't at all bad, but not a beer that I would probably buy again
