Chilled bottle poured into a sniffer given this is my first try o this beer and I wanted to get the most from the nose etc.
Huge bold and deep dark body color that doesn't quite block the sun as light can shine through and shows off a cola-like reddish hue.It pours with very little action or fan-fare and a thinnish coating of head is the result.
At this stage everything is still very much stout, with the aroma consisting of syrupy malt notes with ripe dark fruits like figs, raisons, dates and prunes. The taste follows suit and carries the same taste with that charred meat rind that comes along with roasted dark fruits and smoked nuts.
Many times the notes of this beer seem to fall a little short of the mark. The syrup fruitiness of the fruits seem to fade away rather quickly into a featureless finish. At other times it is not as "grainy and earthy" as some stouts can be and those who enjoy that will feel a little empty.
Whilst the body is quite full and heavy it is actually a fraction on the light side if it was to be compared to some of its peers. Carbonation is also lighter than one might expect.
A good effort from Brew Dog although there are definitely better Imperial Stouts out there.
