Well, scrolling through the other reviews of Rip Tide makes me think that there's been quite a wide degree of bottle or batch variation. That's also been my experience.
It had about an hour in the fridge and the pour was promising. The rocky full tan head formed without any real persuasion and stuck around till the end. Jet black apart from a fine line of orangy light at the bottom of the glass. Some trace of seaweed and wet Scottish beach on the nose.
It is in the taste where it delivers. There's a deep earthy depth and bitterness in the mouth followed by some long savoury punchy liquorice reminiscent of Bassetti sticks. Length is also long, warming and friendly. The alcohol does give a certain glow but it is well integrated supporting that lingering bitterness.
Certainly the best bottle I've ever had of this and at £1.42 it is a total steal. Brewdog is certainly on a roll.
