Into my imperial pint, pours solid black. An increasingly aggressive pour lent a aggravatingly small head, pretty bubbly, that vanished awful quick. Yet, it left lacing in bubbles and streaks all down the glass. The aroma isn't very assertive, but has many nice subtleties. Dark fruits and chocolate are evident first, some coffee and brown sugar.
The taste is quite more outgoing, yet not. It both lands a punch and invites you over for tea. I can't say I'm blown away by any part, through any part, and yet it has plenty of strength. In other words, perplexing. Its kind of a smorgasbord rolling across the tongue, no particular order. At any time, I might taste coffee, anise, dark fruits, roasted malt, leafy hops, and so on. The mouth is medium to heavy, well carbonated, and fairly smooth, hiding the alcohol pretty well. Again, its an interesting beer, don't know that I'd buy it again, certainly would drink it if offered... Enjoyed it more and more as I went on. Still a bit perplexed.
