Poured out to a hazy, reddish tan with a beautiful cream colored, 2-finger head that lasted throughout the drink.

Smell is very fruity, with hints of honey and prunes. Very hard to detect any hops.

Taste is very malty with a balanced bite of hops. Very surprising as I didn't notice it very much in the smell. The bitterness lingers a bit and gives way to a pleasant and subtle warm sweetness.

Mouthfeel is fairly thick, with just the right amount of carbonation (very little).

Drinkability I would say isn't super high, but overall is still a very solid beer.

A: The beer is black in appearance but when held up to a bright light the edges of the glass appear to be very dark brown. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that quickly died down, leaving lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of nutty malts and chocolate are present in the nose along with some hints of honey.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and seems to have a little sweetness from the honey with notes of dark fruits along with hints of kola nuts and toffee. Little if any bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes more like a brown ale compared to a herbed/spiced beer so I'm not sure if this beer was aged and this mellowed out the hoppy and herbal flavors. In any event, it was rather easy to drink and had some interesting aromas and flavors.

22 oz. bottle, with sticker reading Batch #120, best before 21-01-14, so I'm guessing that is best before January 21, 2014, so it looks like I'm a little late, but I'm not scared! I've been holding this bottle down for a few months now, 7.80% abv on the label, although my label is orange instead of black and red like the beer pictured. Interesting premise, I have no idea what to expect.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a dark woodsy caramel mahogany cola colored body. Thick & semi-viscous. Just over a finger of dark khaki mocha head. Second pour yields 3 big fingers of fat mocha head.

S - Smell is pretty nice and definitely unique. Lots of caramel / toffee malts, brown bread, some cream, honeyed sweetness is very noticeable, some cola (from the kola nuts?), and some earthy nuttiness. Some maple syrupy sort of aroma also distinct.

T - Taste follows the nose - lots of caramel / toffee malt, sugary earthy tea leaf sweetness, some honey, cola, nuttiness, and lots of dark bitter coffee-ish barley roast. Lots of unidentifiable herbal action going on also. Very interesting, to be sure.

M - The feel is smooth and creamy. Very dry, earthy, herbal, and bitter on the finish. Semi-full bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, a unique and interesting use of ingredients in a beer, and they definitely seem to work well together, but this probably isn't something I would go out of my way to try again, especially not for the price point. Still, glad to have tried one of the older bottles, so maybe I will get to try the 7.40% abv version one day.

Pours a clear amber with a medium tan head. Smells of honey and fresh flowers. Taste is a malt bomb, some honey and An hint of wood. Mouth feel is rich and smooth. The beer really coats your mouth. Overall a pretty good beer, but too expensive for what you get.

Poured out dark orange. Head was a little weak with the poor. There was no expiration date or batch date on the bottle. Don't know if that lead to my sub par experience with this beer. 7.8% ABV and when served cold the beer hides the alcohol pretty well. The aromatics where nice. Definitely smelled the honey and also got a strong citrus smell. You could taste the kola nut as well and I really don't think the ingredients worked well together. Is was a highly complex taste that really overpowers your palette. The warnings are posted all over the bottle. It is called a "flavored ale" and I will quote the back of the bottle, "This ale is not cool. You may think it is, but that is just a beautiful lie fabricated by clowns and gypsies." I should've read their disclosure on the back label. It is a literal discription of what you imagine clowns and gypsies drinking; it would be this "flavored ale" and it tastes like a highly glorified malt liquor. I was expecting at least a bigger presents of a hop flavor, yet it was non-exsistent.
WARNING!!!! It is a highly adventurous beer made by highly adventurous and innovative brewers. People are going to like it and then there will be people like me who can't finish the glass. I have huge respect for Brew Dogs and what they have done for the craft beer community, but this beer just didn't connect with me.

It is 5 months out of date, but,i think that 95% of flavors are still there.
Batch no.209. Got it in beer shop in Budapest,HU.

A - Cola black,dark foam,one-two finger,no carbonation.

S - Candy sugars,cocoa,coffee,cola,strong honey.

T/M - Sweet but bitter finish. Lots of sugar. Warm alcohol. Spices and other aromas.

O - Drink it with some good food. Some meat dishes or dark chocolate cake. Some cheese maybe. Personally,i don't like it too much. It is aromatic and interesting, but it doesn't feet me well..

Not sure if I have the right Dogma. My bottle describes it like this (same ingredients) and it's 7.8% but it sure ain't clear orange as other reviewers describe it. It's a deep dark ruby.
appearance: Dark ruby, nearly opaque. Fairly thick light tan head.
smell: The honey is prominent as is smoky undertone. Cola is also right there. Quite a nose.
taste: Lives up to the nose. All the flavors are there.
overall: This is a very nice creation. Again, not sure if Brewdog has come up with a new recipe or what. This is quite dark and unless I'm that far off from others (which could be) reviews on this are mediocre at best. This is quite nice to me.
