A dark, solid black colour with a slight reddish tinge, settles toh a thin brownish white head that lasts for the duration of the drinks life.

Made up of roasted malts, some light toffee notes and very sweet fruity smell that is reminesant of dark summer fruits and there is a nice general hopiness.

Lots of sweet malts, hops and roasted barely that is quite similiar tasting to a stout but not quite as strong on the taste buds. There is a good fruity finish that closely matches the nose & contains faint hints of both toffee and coffee but not much.

Medium bodied & with good carbonation levels, this is a smooth beer to begin with but finishes slightly on the sticky side.

Not at all what I was expecting from this one. Quite sweet and fruity tasting & this is matched by the nose but overall a very drinkable beer that I hope to drink again soon.

This pours dark ruby and the fluffy tan head disappears rather quickly.

The nose was quite floral, but the burnt toffee I smelled last time was a bit toned down this time I thought, almost like tablet rather than toffee.

Drinking the beer I felt there was more coffee than chocolate this time, which made the beer quite dry and bitter, which is never a bad thing in my world, although there was an undertone of sweet caramel, and even some smokiness - although apparently there wasn't any smoked malt used.

A nice rounded body makes it a satisfying drink, which is nicely balanced and easy to imbibe.

330 mL bottle tried 18 Oct 2010. Courtesy of L&D, thanks! Served in, damn, garbled pic in notes. One of the dimpled German mugs. 0.4 L most likely.

Large bubbly light brown head. Moderate carbonation. Very dark brown, almost opaque. Roasty fruity sour aroma with a touch of smoke. Lots of roasty dark chocolate to start. Mocha, espresso. Medium body, mild ethanol. Roasty bitter finish. Aftertaste is some lingering cocoa.

As has been mentioned before, decent but pricey on this side of the Atlantic.

330 ml bottle, bought at Systembolaget, Sweden. ABV is 4.9%. Black colour, dark brown in the highlights. Moderate beige head. Very nice roasty aroma with notes of chocolate and coffee, hints of liquorice. Fresh mouthfeel with hints of fruity acidity. The flavour is roasty with notes of coffee, fairly dry. A pronounced roasty and hoppy bitterness in the finish.

330ml bottle, consumed Feb 2011, BBE Sep 2011.

A - Brown / near black body with reddish highlights, no head and virtually no lacing.

S - Rich, dark roasted malts with some coffee.

T - Light taste to open before the roasted malts come along and add a lot of depth. Good amount of bitterness but the aftertaste doesn't linger.

M - Smooth light body with light punchy carbonation.

D - Quite a nice one, balances between a light body and deep taste that would work well as a session or by itself.

Tap @ Hamilton's. Poured black, could be very dark brown, with a short, creamy off-white head. Good retention with small amount of lacing. Smoky, burnt coffee aroma with caramel, cereal grain, and tobacco. Flattish mouthfeel that varied between slick and lifeless. Very nice smoke and roast malt flavors. Earthy cocoa, like carab, and cream. Nice bitter hops from time to time. Admittedly, I have not had as many schwarzbiers as others, but I did enjoy this beer.

Pours dark brown with a very small head.
Aroma is very rich with sweet roasted malt showing dark chocolate, toast, and espresso.
Flavours are similarly rich, but not as sweet, and include more espresso and burnt toast, followed by a lingering roasty finish with a prominent, but not sharp, bitterness.
Light body and carbonation work well with the clean lager flavours.

A - Very dark brown with ruby red highlights when held up to light. About 1 centimetre of mocha coloured head which falls away fairly quickly leaving a touch of lace.
S - Chocolate and coffee with some roasted malt notes. A bit of a dark fruit hint.
T - Chocolate and coffee also in the taste along with some herbal and earthy character.
M -Fairly light bodied with a medium level of carbonation.
D - Nothing mindblowing but decent beer that I'd drink again and could have a few of in a winter session.

300 ml bottle

Very dark with little head. An little aroma, but it does taste rather lovely. Although drinking it straight after a bottle of their outstanding Bashah, it does lack something in depth and complexity. So, not one of BrewDog's best, yet still a very fine beer, and an unusual style. And why not.

Pours a nice dark brown with thin head. Malty sweet odor.

The beer has a light smell but a fairly complex taste. Very light malt up front, with light smoky/chocolaty notes. Lingering toastiness and chocolate on the palette.

Easy to drink, the bubbles feel small. The flavor could be a little more full-bodied, but I did buy this beer on sale due to a passed expiration date...

Very dark, black with some brown hints, the head is beige and leaves good lacing.

The smell is full of dark roasted notes, the malt itself, but also coffee and burnt bread crust. Some faint sweetness like a fig liqueur.

The taste has a milk chocolate sweetness and a dark chocolate bitterness, but a bit flatter than the smell.

Medium high carbonation, a rather heavy body but yet a watery feeling that balance it.

Not bad at all, rather much flavor and good balance.

Beer served in a becher glass on tap. Beer is reddish brown and dark. Beer is mostly clear with a brown head of small bubbles. Lacing is low as well as carbonation.

Aroma is surprisingly smokey. The overall aroma is a bit light but pretty interesting.

Beer is medium body and the smoke that was the star of the aroma is kind of subdued on the palate. Its quite a good schwarzbier. Its mildly smokey, dark, medium bodied, clean finish without an aftertaste. Nice balanced malt presence. Very nice.
