American Double / Imperial Stout |  18.20% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
The irony of existentialism, the parody of being and the inherent contradictions of post-modernism, all so delicately conveyed by the blocky, pixelated arcade action have all been painstakingly recreated in this bottles contents. This imperial stout is brewed with copious amounts of speciality malts, jasmine and cranberries. After fermentation we then dry-hop this killer stout with a bucketload of our favourite hops before carefully ageing the beer on French toasted oak chips. It is all about moderation. Everything in moderation, including moderation itself. What logically follows is that you must, from time, have excess. This beer is for those times.

A- Dark Chocolate pour with a tan head that disappears leaving faint lacing.

S- I have a small head cold so bear with me through this. I can smell some subtle sweetness from the cranberries, and there is definitely some oak essence as well. The smell is rich, and I can smell the 18.20% abv.

T- I was surprised how smooth this drank after smelling so much alcohol through this stuffy nose. The malt and cranberries give initial sweetness, and the oak gives a spectacular smooth finish. As I drink more, I become more puzzled by the lack of warmth from the alcohol content. It is reallly smooth.

M- This is rather heavy, almost syrupy. That being said, very drinkable.

O- This is a great beer though I found it to be very over priced. I encourge all serious stout fans to go try this exceptional brew. I enjoyed it, and I will have it again.

Pours a midnight black with a thin dark tan head. Aromas of semi-sweet chocolate, brown sugar, figs, and a hint of whisky. Taste begins with a super sweet cherry flavor, then some dark bread, followed by aged whisky, and finishing with a hint of pear and an even smaller hint of grassy bitterness. Very sweet. Mouthfeel is super rich. Overall a very good beer, but its a bit too boozy and sweet for my tastes.

Picked this up in Denver during my exploration of some of the biggest and most intense stouts. This comes after the Nogne/Mikkeller/BrewDog collab and the Dogfish Worldwide Stout. Really intrigued, been looking forward to this and there is no better time in the middle of the summer for a huge brew like this than a cool night filled with thunderstorms and buckets of rain.

Chilled just a bit... Pours from the glass a clean chocolate tone. But when all together is a sharp black with a very small and strikingly light sad agains the black coloration of the beer. Looks magnificent.

The smell comes off as a sweet coffee with honey and floral tones to it. A very sweet bakers chocolate. Hints of dark red fruits such as cherries and of coarse cranberries. A bit woody. Pretty nice, not an overwhelming scent but definitely makes me want to take a sip immediately.

And here we go...

Delightful. This met my expectations entirely and is just way tasty. It is sweet and a bit desserty, but it is not cloying or sickeningly sweet. The jasmine really aids this, along with the rich coffee and dark chocolate notes. It's like drinking the most exquisite dark chocolate candy bar in the world. The cranberries shine through and sharpen things up and add a dimension of tartness that really holds the fringes together. I sense a little bit of cherry in this, there is a bit of port-like qualities. The oak chips add a perfect undertone of vanilla that hovers in the background and balances everything. There is a touch of herbal tones and anise. The booze are apparent but they really give a the beer a touch of spiciness when placed alongside the robustness of the beer.

The mouthfeel is slick and is a fine medium to heavy body. Not a massive, thick, oily beer. It is dangerously easy sipping for 18+ percent alcohol. The carbonation is crunchy and mild. It is a warming brew, you can feel it in the mouth and throat and down a bit into the chest. The tail end is a bit dry with the coffee and cranberry notes.

Overall... I'll drink this again. Not doubt. A beer that any imperial stout lover should try.
