Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: PartyBear on 08-29-2009

The irony of existentialism, the parody of being and the inherent contradictions of post-modernism, all so delicately conveyed by the blocky, pixelated arcade action have all been painstakingly recreated in this bottles contents. This imperial stout is brewed with copious amounts of speciality malts, jasmine and cranberries. After fermentation we then dry-hop this killer stout with a bucketload of our favourite hops before carefully ageing the beer on French toasted oak chips. It is all about moderation. Everything in moderation, including moderation itself. What logically follows is that you must, from time, have excess. This beer is for those times.

Pours pitch black with a tiny tan coloured head.

The smell is sweet malts, alcohol, caramel and toffee.

The taste is very sweet and boozy. The alcohol is prevalent and burns your mouth. As it warms up there are cherries and cough syrup coming through.

The mouthfeel is like syrup with almost no carbonation.

Overall I though this was pretty good but am struggling to get through a 12oz bottle,I would rather split this, if you don't like an alcohol burn in your beer, this isn't for you.

bb 4-4-21 Had this one a couple years probably. I'm sure it's smooth and easy drinking by now ;-)

Appeaeance. Pours dark brown with a finger of light tan head.

Smell. Sweet dark chocolate, red berries, booze, lightly floral with some dark malts.

Taste. Tangy red berries and sweet dark chocolate. Surprisingly low alcohol taste, also surprisingly decent tasting. Some herby floral flavours going on as well. Not too shabs!

Mouthfeel. Pretty full body, low carbonation. Kinda sticky.

Overall. Honestly, I was expecting this to be terrible. Pleasantly surprised with this drinkable 18+% beer.

Vintage 2010, Konichiwa bitches!

A: Pours a abysmal darkness in liquid form, Absu itself fills my glass! The crown is low and light chocolate brown in colour. Mostly consists of bubbles that persist for quite some time.

S: At first, a tart and almost rubbing alcohol-like smell is what hits the nose. Upon closer inspection the nasal sleuths discover that it is an extremely integrated smell of a tart lingon- and cranberry-scent along with notes of oats and cocoa, like that of a cranberry-infused dark chocolate bar, some peppery notes might be detected as well. Esoteric to say the least -- how deceiving!

T: Sweet to say the least, dark syrup, molasses and rye bread comes to mind. Not bad. After that, the saccharine notes of the syrup transforms to an almost honey-like flavour.
There is a tart cherry-to-cranberry sourness present, but it is hidden betwixt the sweet flavours. There is also an almost abundance of chocolate-to-cola sensation
in this clash of sugary components. Multilevelled to say the least.

Furthermore, when the more spicy and herb-like notes kick in, one cannot escape to make the association with some premium mead, especially with the warming alcohol-with-honey-style present. All of the flavours persevere towards the end, however, if one is to discern a aftertaste it would have to be that of the more sour kind, the tartness really makes a return and inscribes its runes of flavours into the stone of palate. UGH!

M: Thick as a flubber-f*ck (or so I've been told), round and mercilessly omnipresent in the palate (whoa, that came out the wrong way [that as well]). Carbonation is vivid but not overpowering, whilst the

O: A bit pricey but for obvious reasons, still a motherfudging solid brew, and I'd love to have another one. However, not in the nearest couple of hours...
