Seeing this on the shelf, I was initially perplexed by the label, which features the Stone gargoyle and the BrewDog shield, but I quickly realized that I was looking at a collaborative brew. $5.99 for a 12 oz. bottle. Batch 352. Here we go:

A: Bashah has no yeast cake, and upon pouring, almost no head forms. The color is deep brown - almost black - with just a small patch of splotchy cream atop. The minuscule head does manage to stick itself to the glass quite well. Impressive lacing for such small head.

S: The nose is malty, charred, and definitely Belgian. Hops aplenty flood the aroma with grapefruit, orange, and a hint of spicy flowers. The malts provide chocolate and toffee. The Belgian yeast add a blackcurrant character, which plays nicely with the other scents. Overall though, the nose is a battle between the toffee-like malts and heavy, piney hops.

T: As expected, Bashah opens with a massive hop bite, and some roasted malt character in the finish. The strong hops (Amarillo, perhaps?) mask the Belgian spice.

M: The mouthfeel is generally astringent, leaving a tackiness on the tongue, but the darker malts help to smooth the bitterness. Medium body.

D: High. Overall, Bashah is solid. It's predictable but still enjoyable.

The best thing about this beer isn't the hops or the black malts or the aroma or any of the things mentioned above. It is the beer's ability to transcend time. The label states, "Bottled on 12/25/10." Not "drink by," but "bottled on." So this batch of Bashah will be bottled on Christmas. I can therefore conclude that this beer has come back from the future for me to savor. And the future is delicious.

A brown/black pour with a finger of tan head which quickly dissipated. Smells of roasted coffee, charred barrel, chocolate. Flavor is on point with aroma.. Lots of charred oak, roasted grains, dark chocolate with a subtle sweetness of rich milk chocolate. Medium in body with hardly any carbonation.
At $6 a bottle, it was hard o pass up on it seeing as that's relatively cheap for brewdog one offs, and stone has let me down seldomly. It was worth the gamble. A nice tasty dark beer.

A - jet black, poured like a Culver's root beer, lots of carbonation bubbles, big head that settled quickly to a small tan ring.
S - smell those funky Belgium hops, licorice, molasses
T - rye, chocolate. hops seem to have faded a bit, some hints of a stout variety, I get a little alcohol burn at the end.
M - carbonated, goes down easy, I get a good whiff of funk on the nose while drinking.
O - very nice style. I purchased this off the clearance shelf recently and am glad I did. I would like to try this a little fresher to compare.

Pours an impressive jet black. Smells like bread, citrus, a little sour. Tastes a little watery and sour, hints of toast. My girlfriend says it reminds her of soy sauce, which I agree with just a little bit. Like a cross between a weak IPA and a stout but not very impressive either way.

Hunahpu Day pour #12. Pours dark brown with big kahki head. Smells floral with a bit of citrus, hints of roast perhaps, and a little sour. Flavor is heavy scotch and dark fruits, comes in hotter than expected and not much depth in flavor. A bit boozy though only medium on the palate. Not my favorite. Blegh.
