NO ALCOHOL. NO COMPROMISE.
If you think low alcohol equals low taste, think again. We made a hardcore beer and left the alcohol out. Nanny State breaks the curfew and slips under the radar. A brigade of speciality malts and North American hops sends bitterness to the brink and back. Squeezing this many hops in, and the alcohol out, is a testament to our craft.
Nanny State - no compromise, no surrender, no alcohol.
MALTS: Amber, Chocolate, Crystal, Dark Crystal, Munich, Rye, Wheat, Caramalt
HOPS: Ahtanum, Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, Simcoe

Pours out of the can a crystal clear amber-gold with a finger of head that dissipates quickly. Bubbles race up the side of glass rapidly. Smells slightly piney and gently citrusy. Tastes much more muted than the smell. Just a slight bitterness. Very thin mouthfeel but extra bubbly.

Pours a malty cardboard tinged color. Low aroma with a wort/unfinished fermentation character, so common to the NA field. Novelty aside, this didn't do much for me.

From the can, it pours a clear light golden color with a nice bubbly white head that soon reduces to a thin layer. Some spotty lacing. The nose gets a nice hoppy citrus and pine scent - some tangerine as well. The mouth gets a lightly odd bitterness, more like an off flavor but not too distracting, followed by a light malt.

Sep. 2010: 330 ml bottle, from the n/a selection of Vinmonopolet. ABV is 0.5%. Amber colour, big head, slightly off-white. Lovely aroma of fruity and piney American hops. Thin mouthfeel. The flavour is all American hops throughout, with a very pronounced bitterness in the finish - 45 IBU sounds not shockingly high, but with a beer this thin, it is. The aftertaste is too bitter and medicinal.

Can. White head. Clear darker golden color.
Earthy, grassy, floral. Nice hop profile. Bready and biscuit malts. Light, but fairly flavorful for 20 calories and being an NA. Light bitterness in the finish as well. Pretty solid.

I’m just now getting into NA beer and this Brewdog Variety Pack is my first experience trying them out. Nanny State definitely smells like an IPA. A little watered down tasting. Had a metallic, unpleasant aftertaste, but I’m not sure if that has to do with NA or the IPA style itself. I never drink IPAs when having normal beer. Would not buy Nanny State again.

12oz can poured into a pint
A- pours a clear deep amber with a two-finger foamy white head that has long retention and leaves some lacing
S- vegetal aroma up front with hints of garlic. Undertones of stale citrus and leafy hops, also a bit of a cooked spinach note
T- oily hops up front with some grassy and citrus notes that turn stale at mid palate, the finish drops off with more stale hops on the linger
M- medium-light body with medium carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a crisp finish

Looks like a light brown ale in the glass and has a decent (albeit just slightly “off”) hop smell. Tastes like hoppy seltzer water to me, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Very light body. Refreshing finish. Not at all sweet, but I miss the malt.

Had this on 2021-11-03 near Pittsburgh, PA from a 12oz canned on 2021-05-24
A - Pretty hazy gold with a 2.5 finger head that drops quickly leaving mild lace
S - Peach, sorghum cereal, grassy hops. Don't love the aroma but I'm sure the hops have faded/morphed in the 5.5 months since canning.
T - Bread crust, sorghum, grassy/herbal spice, tangerine zest, mildly bitter.
M - Thin body and medium carbonation. Finishes dry
O - It has an OK flavor that drinks like a session Pale Ale. I would have enjoyed a fuller feel. Impressive that it is only 28 calories.

APPEARANCE: Golden partly hazed, with an off-white head and no lace.
NOSE: Citrus shops, Nice.
TASTE: Thin body and bitter hops. Hop water or hop tea describes this as well as “near beer”. Not bad for what it is.
