A - A cloudy amber with a fine head that leaves some but not much lacing. A creamy white lace clings to the side of the glass upon settling.

S - Complex. Sweet malt comes up with alcohol and resinous hops. Some fruitiness is present with citrus and figs coming to mind. The fragrance is dense and comes in waves. Very unconventional and appealing nose.

T - Large malt and aggressive hops up front followed by a strong alcohol bite that gives way to an almost gin-like herbal character. The alcohol gives way to bitterness and subtle basil and malt. Somewhat fruity and sweet but really has an herbal character and quality all of its own. Seems to possibly be oaked, but I'm not really sure.

M - Explosive carbonation and a very clean mouthfeel fro the style.

O - A good beer to try! A bit pricey but its certainly unique and worth giving a whirl.

From notes on 12/07/11:
No freshness date; Poured in a pint glass.

A - One inch creamy, very light yellowish-tan head that diminishes pretty quickly; Caramel colored with a very thick and cloudy appearance; Moderate lacing

S - Pretty unique smell here; Wet citrus hops, sweet caramel, burnt sugar, and slightly earthy notes as well

T - Also unique, but different from the nose; More earthy hops here, with just a bit of pine and tropical fruit; Caramel malt backbone with a slightly warm, peppery, mango-like aftertaste; No taste of alcohol detected at all; Decent amount of bitterness throughout the taste and into the fairly clean finish

M - Very nice carbonation felt on the tongue; Slightly above medium bodied; Slick, oily coat forms in the mouth; Pretty dry finish

O - This beer tastes and smells unlike any other beer I have had, and the complexity made it challenging to pick apart the aromas and flavors. There was a really good balance of hops, bitterness, malts, and fruity sweetness that I really enjoyed. This DIPA was pretty drinkable as well, and one I hope to find and try again in the future.

blood orange in color with tons of haze. Nice amount of off-white head and some lacing.

Loads of citrus in the nose. Grapefruit and orange really come out along with a floral note.

Big mouthfeel and this is gotta be a sipper. Almost leans into the barley wine category with the cloyingly sweetness and residual sugars. Lighter caramel malts keep this fruity and add to the Amarillo notes, Columbus and probably Simcoe piney bits from the hops. Hop driven for sure with just enough malt to keep you interested.

This was a tasty collaboration but a bit pricey for another Double IPA. I let this sit around for 6 months in the fridge so a fresh version would review differently.

Ugh, this beer just keeps hitting me while I'm down...

I mistakenly bought this at the bottle shop the other day, and dislike the idea of returning alcohol. My fault for not being more careful about what I was looking at, etc. The price is a rip off at $6.99 a single 12oz bottle. Then it's a huge disappointment of a beer to try and drink.

A - Pours very dark for a DIPA - an oxidized copper color - and I was getting plops of sediment entering my glass before the bottle was even half empty. A short but firm grayish-white head rises and very fine bubbles are always in supply around the edges of the glass.

S - At once overwhelming, even from a distance. Sweetness is pervasive and annoying. Like Hopslam amped up a few notches. Faint citrus rind is there, but is bowled over by pine and other vegetable matter. Then the aroma finishes with a slap in the face of booze.

T - Hoppy but not all that bitter. It's just boozy - unpleasantly so. The taste is more of a mouthfeel than anything. Not good.

M - Hot. The carbonation is prickly... couple this with extreme booziness and the beer literally stings my tongue and lips. Sweet as hell, too.

O - What a waste of money, very disappointing. A great example that just because a beer is a collaboration doesn't mean it will equal success.

A: Pours lovely hazy orange with a rather tall creamy off-white head that sets into nice lacings.

S: Well, lots of american bitter as well as floral hops gives it a piney and citric vibe. Lots of grapefruit and pineapple, balanced with some orange sezt. Some caramell malt, but overpowered by the hops. A bit sweet.

T: Syrupy sweet at first, but the very bitter. Caramell malt and honey, but american hops dominates. Kind of alcoholic.

M: Warming from the alcohol. A rather long sweet and bitter aftertaste. Body is syrupy full while carbonation is held back.

O: The sweetness and boozyness kind of bothered me. The hops were nice though.

A- Slightly hazy pale orange topped with a thin off white head. Head fades to a ring and leaves some spotty lace on the glass.

S- Lots of fruit and hints of citrus hops. Complex aroma but more like a barleywine than a DIPA. Got a lot of notes of plum, raisin, and candied fruit not the more sweet citrus or grapefruit that I usually associate with an IPA.

T- Now I believe it’s an DIPA, sweet malt at first just a hint of hop bitterness to balance things out. The hops become more prominent at the middle but never overtake the sweetness in this beer. The finish is a wash of bitter hops and more caramel sweetness, it is a surprisingly clean one though.

M- More than medium in body and low in carbonation, very little oily residue at the finish as well.

O- Interesting beer, reminds me a lot of Dogfish Head’s 120 in taste and flavor profile. The 9.5% ABV is not over the top but adds a nice kick and it is decently hidden, just a little heat at the finish.

Picked this up a while back from Warehouse Beverage in Euclid Heights. It was for sale from behind a locked plexiglass cabinet, so I knew it had to be something special. But would it be hardcore at first sight?

Poured from a 333 ml bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a deep, dark amber color, with a light tan head that reduces to a thin lid crawling up the sides of the glass.

Smell is intense, with loads of citrus, alcohol, and buttery yeast. Undertones of grapes, apricots and pine resin are all present. The aroma loses some of its harshness as it sits for a few minutes to breathe.

Starts bitter, oily and malty all at once. Mild citrus, white pine, burnt toffee and white grapes all combine for a taste overload. Hardcore hops rush in to plump and pucker the tongue with bitterness.

Mouthfeel is oily and slick; there must be a butt-load of hop resins in this! Medium bodied, the IBU's are high enough to get my tongue and gums tingling, and leave the back of my throat dry.

An intense brew, best savored slowly. A decent, if not mouth-whupping, DIPA, one which I would consider having again but for the $6.99 price tag. Still, good for a one-time ride, and probably best savored in small doses, like most things hardcore.
