Cloudy, saffron-stained rust, with a thin and frail beige head. It smells like bread... spread with orange marmalade and banana jam, dusted with cloves and cinnamon, layered with applesauce and rummy raisins. Fantastically aromatic, a warmingly wintry smell, like mulled cider. Tangy with apple and spice, a flavor of Hefeweizen distilled, unsalted pretzels and pure malted grain. Banana, brandy, and a faint woody bitterness. Thin but not insipid, and nicely dry. A very winning weizenbock.

A 1/3 pint served in a Teku glass at the BrewDog bar in Edinburgh. From notes. Reviewed 28 May 2011.

A: I think I really like this glass. Angular and interesting. Little head. Dark brown core with lighter sunburst edges.

S: Wheaty (no surprise). Strong alcohol, citrus. Sour yeast.

T: Whoah, yummy as hell. Deep flavours, only vaguely wheaty, with bursts of alcohol powering it through. Sweetish. A very brief aftertaste. Good, but in the end, perhaps a bit one-dimensional?

M: A bit dry, light, and noticeably alcoholic.

O: I approve of experimentation! Interesting and definitely worth trying. Still, with so much else on offer, I don't think I'll revisit it.

Serving type: on-tap
