A 660ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2014. Purchased from the Brewdog webshop a little while back. Described on the label as an attempt to recreate the original IPA of the 1800s, using British malt and hops.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. A deep orange-amber hue with faint haze and no visible carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam with good retention; this slowly reduces to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing. Aroma of intensely spicy hops with hints of pine resin, weed, citrus peel, spice, sweet caramel malt, subtle yeast and stewed hops. A twinge of sherry/oxidation in the background. While undeniably hoppy, it smells maltier than I expected.

Tastes of zealous hops and sweet malt, with a powerful bitter finish. Notes of pine resin, dank weed, tart citrus peel, spice, hay, caramel, mild sherry, earthiness and stewed hops. A hint of cardboard and oxidation in the background. Slightly sweet, with a severe, hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with soft carbonation and a thick, unctuous body. Hop oils tantalise the palate. Pretty astringent, followed by an aftertaste of pine resin, bitter stewed hops and sweet caramel malt.

OK, though not as stunning as I had anticipated. The lack of carbonation and subtle hints of oxidation make me wonder if the cap was slightly unsealed, resulting in mild degradation. Looks alright, in spite of the absent carbonation. The aroma and flavour are seriously hoppy but possess a considerable dose of sweet caramel malt to balance things out. Hints of oxidation lurk in the background, lending a faded quality that detracts from the beer's character. Good body; the tingly hop oils make up for the low carbonation. Flawed yet not a disaster - the flavour is wishy-washy rather than amazing but it goes down nonetheless. Worth a punt if you come across it.

660ml Bottle BBD 14th Oct 2014. Shared between four at the first ever Shrewsbury bottle share on 27th Jan 2014.

Slight haze to everyones glass, orange blond in colour with a good white head.

Expected a hoppier nose, this had a piney, mild citrus aroma with an equal amount of maltiness in the smell.

The taste was also an almost equal blend of malt and hop flavours: nothing bad, just a bit strange for a BrewDog IPA as they like to kill IPA's with hops usually.

All in all not bad: glad someone paid for it though.

Pours hazy golden/orange, with a one-finger head that goes fast, leaving a sticky lace.
Smell is typical: biscuity malts, caramel, dry leafy hops, spices and citrus.
Rich maltiness, with whole-grain biscuits, toffee and caramel. Sweet oranges, with some tangerine notes, some ripe red apple and low peach. Lots of dry fruit peel and spicy yeasts. Hops are mainly herbal, autumn-leafy tho, with small hints of flowers. Really earthy and rugged too. Some tobacco and a bit of metal. More than mild bitterness.
Nice chewy body, perfect for the malts. Just enough (lowish) carbonation. Dry leafy aftertaste.
The hops feel a bit off, with a rural, homemade feel to it. For me it helped, considering the "old-timey" thing they wanted to capture.

650ml Bottle from Brewdog online store (£7.00):
Bright amber with a thumb sized, creamy looking, foamy white head that holds as a nice dome shape & leaves good lacing too.

English hops and a strong citrus and floral notes that have a good balance between them but the hops come out very slightly stronger. As the beer settles some the malt character of the beer becomes more apparent with some biscuit notes coming through, as do some grassy hops and toffee with a bitterness to round things off with.

Very bitter taste, with plenty of floral flavours and a strong mix of English hops coming with some citrus. Some malts also come through but the caramel malts, some earthy flavours and a little sweetness all come through together with some subtle alcohol right at the end.

Medium to full one and definitely a lot thicker than I had been expecting with plenty of bitterness coming through on top of a very smooth, crisp mouthfeel and carbonation is soft.

A great beer from Brewdog and more of what I expect from the brewery. The palate is great and filled with plenty bitterness and a subtle hit of alcohol towards the end.
