330 ml. bottle, dirty hazy golden colour, with a normal head that leaves a small lace. Smell of citrus, coriander, tropical fruits. Harsh on the palate, sticky, taste of citrus, caramel, tropical fruits and some spices. Not too different to Eldorado or Dana. Good.

Reviewed from notes taken in November.

Appearance: Dana pours a slightly cloudy bright golden-orange, with a rough pour yielding a large off-white head. The head lasts well and leaves some good looking rings of lacing.

Smell: The nose here is actually a little better than the Waimea and the El Dorado that I had a few days ago, but it still suffers from freshness issues. There is some citrus, a little garlic, a touch of sweeter tropical fruits and some underlying sweeter malts.

Taste: The flavor offers more bitterness than I had expected which is a very pleasant surprise, however the flavor is still somewhat faded. Notes include: Citrus pith, orange, a light herbal/leafy note and some sweet malt.

Mouthfeel: As with the other beers in the series, the mouthfeel here is actually pretty good. Medium bodied with a nice oily texture and a medium-high level of carbonation.

Overall: I nice drinkable beer, but still lacking on flavor.

Pours amber with a large head.
Nose shows herbal hops, spicy notes, caramel and great cookie dough-like malt notes.
Similar flavours, more herbal, earthy and spicy hops along with more of the cookie dough malt. Some booze shows.
Could use more carbonation.

My second foray into the Brewdog "IPA is Dead" 4-pack of single-hopped ales, this one is a Slovenian hop descended from German Hallertau Magnum and various Slovenian locals. Does not appear in recent published sources but a Google search reveals that it is "good for bittering and extraction purposes". Does not exactly scream "put me in a single-hop IPA". The brew itself pours a dark orange honey color with around four fingers of off-white head, left little to no lace on the glass. Odor was actually super citrusy for a pseudo-noble hop, loads of tangerine and perhaps other citrus notes along with UK pale malt. This one breaks the taste follows the nose rule, in fact the flavors are rather odd and at times interesting. I get a lot of black licorice spice, a little white pepper, some bubble gum, stale cooking oil, cat piss, rhubarb or nettles, unripe peach/apricot and a grassy hay/citrus hybrid almost like starfruit (if you've ever had it). The sweet malts actually provide a bit more balance than in its stablemate Waimea, but the odd hop flavors still ride the wave. Finish is dry and puckeringly bitter, with some green vegetal flavors like melon rind (must be the Hallertau germ plasm) and cucumber. Mouthfeel fits a pale ale if maybe a little on the watery side. Brew Dog carbonates heavy as well but this potential mask doesn't stop this from being a very odd IPA. I bet Dana would be a great dry hop for certain lager styles.

Looks typical, no problems here.
To get the malt out of the way: it's pretty weak, bready and not very supportive, making this one a bit watery.
The hops generate a flash of aromas, that fade away pretty fast and linger lightly; there's nice fruitiness, raw, not really ripe peaches and apricots, some white grape, apple rind, then exotic fruit; lemon lime, tangerine; some floral hints also; the hops are piney, with a dry leafy bitterness, as is the aftertaste;
Not a bad showing, the Dana hops do make a nice refreshing beer, but the aromas seem weak/short and leave the (otherwise nice) bitterness all on its own.

A - fully hazy dark mustard golden, thumb of white head retained at a half finger with decent lacing
S - hints of lemon lime citrus, raw pale grains, touch of leafs and a slightly sour aroma
T - funky sour citrus, grainy, musty, a minerally thing going on, its definitely different
M - medium body, gets slightly thin and sour, dry mustiness on the finish
O - its not a bad brew but its definitely a different kind of IPA, not really my jam but I can appreciate the intent of the single hop idea
