Serving glass: Poured from kickass can into imperial Pint. Tallgrass is really making some great looking cans and ridiculous stories to go with them. I love it.

Appearance: Extremely dark brown that appears black. Massive, creamy, light brown head that leaves some decent lacing behind.

Smell: Chocolate, roasted notes, light fruitiness, and some chalkiness.

Taste: Great roasted taste with chocolate, some coffee and smoke, and light fruity notes. The finish has some Pale Ale characteristics with light citrusy and floral notes. Not bitter at all, but definitely a unique finish for a Porter.

Feel: Medium body that is quite smooth and creamy. Light carbonation. Very nice dry finish.

Overall: Other than a unique finish, there is nothing over the top here; just an extremely well made Robust Porter. Another great new release from Tallgrass. 2013 has really been their year, with this, Wild Plum, and the sublime Ethos IPA.

Poured from a cool looking 16 oz. can into a Surly tulip glass. Can says drink by 03/22/14.

Appearance: Pours a deep dark blackish brown with a slight hint of ruby. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid three fingers of tan head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A nicely roasty, robust, and sweet dark malt driven aroma with a big scent of chocolate. Dark roasted barley malts with big upfront hints of sweet chocolate and cocoa nibs. Hints of coffee, cream, burnt toast, caramel, toffee, biscuit, lactose, grains, nuts, and a little smoke. Sweet hints of burnt brown sugar. Solid hop backing with earthy hints of grass and subtle hints of citrus orange, lemon, and grapefruit. A really good roasty aroma.

Taste: As robust and good as it smells, big dark roasted malts with lots of sweet chocolate notes. Big taste of dark roasted barley malts with good notes of dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, coffee beans, cream, lactose, burnt toast, caramel, toffee, grains, biscuit, nuts, and some smoked malt. Sweet notes of burnt brown sugar. A surprisingly strong hop presence for the style with notes of grass, pine, and subtle citrus notes of orange, grapefruit, and lemon. Hops provide a nice balancing bitterness. A very good porter taste.

Mouthfeel: Body is on the slightly higher end of medium. Carbonation is moderate. Very creamy, silky, roasty, and smooth.

Overall: A really outstanding take on a Porter. Great roasty chocolate and coffee flavors with a solid backing presence of hops. Almost more of a Stout than Porter.

Love the tactical grip can, Artwork is pretty cool too...

Pours an effervescent mahogany with 3 finger of mocha colored head. Nice lacing & good head retention

S: Mocha & coffee notes

T: Coffee, a touch of mocha, a touch lactic sourness is there too up front. Roastynesss, & more coffee as this warms, just modicum of caramel as well, dryness too. Finishes roasty, with cocoa sweetness, some drynesss

MF: Medium bodied, fairly firm carbonation

Easy to drink, really scratches the coffee beer itch, no FBS, but a very suitable substitute. I hope this stays in the permanent rotation
