16 ounce tallboy can. Tallgrass gets bonus points for a sweet color scheme and for putting the umlat onto the label itself. Poured into a standard pils glass. Köld pours the color of light hay, with lots of bubbly carbonation. Nice head that looks somewhat like the stuffing out of a teddy bear. Sadly the head dissappears pretty quickly, though there's some that clings to the sides of the glass. The nose is what I would describe as that classic American pilsner aroma. Basically you get cereal malt with some hops off in the distance. Likewise the taste is that of cereal, with a few bready notes and some light citrus and floral hops in the background. Drinking Köld is a fizzy, almost tingly mouth experience. It's light but very refreshing. That said, the beer isn't perfect. seasoned beer drinkers may ntoice a little bit of odd sourness and some metallic notes, especially in the finish, buried in the background. Perhaps my palete is off today. Still, it remains a very accessible, very drinkable, lager beer, especially on a hot summer day like today. The term "lawnmower beer" gets tossed around a lot, but to me that's the perfect description for this beer. Unassuming, inoffensive, and perfect when you want to down a few Köld ones.

A- Looks just like a Kolsch should. Pale straw colored. Has a watery look to it compared to other beers. White, thin head. Unless you really like Kolsh beer, this one doesn't look great, not bad either.

S- Very citrusy. Kind of like lemon water. Some grass as well.

T- Overbearingly sweet. I just can't deal with the almost syrupy sugar taste here. Is there corn syrup in this beer? I had drinks at the all inclusive pool bar that tasted more natural than this.

M- A Kolsh should be a lot more crisp. MEH.

O- I like Metropolitan Krankshaft just fine, but this just isn't a style that I enjoy. Glad to see I am not the only one that had this forced upon them by an Oklahoma trader. This beer sucks.

Appearance: It has a transparent straw colored body with plenty of white head and lace.

Smell: It smells like herbs and grass with some citrus zest.

Taste: Very bitter sweet and sour fruity. Bread like malt tones and grass.

Mouthfeel: It is very light with some crisp carbonation.

Overall: I think it is a great twist on traditional style.

Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.

Thanks to ThirstyHerf for this can!

The last of my mid-American cans. Something tells me I'm gonna haveta get my hands on a few more of these sometime in the future... For now, though, this stuff pours a clear pale straw topped by over a finger-and-a-half of bright white foam. The nose comprises wheat, pineapple, and a touch of flowers and grass. Actually rather pleasant, despite the total lack of strength. The taste holds notes of lemon zest, cracked wheat, light flowers, even lighter grass, and a twinge of orange peel. The body is pretty light, with a light moderate carbonation and a wet feel. Overall, a surprisingly nice kolsch, something really easy and pleasant to drink. Good times.

Appearance: Pours a clear, pale lemon color capped by a massive white head; excellent retention and lacing

Smell: Crackery malt, with apples and lemony hops

Taste: Opens bready, with apple and lemon flavors developing by mid-palate; rather sweet, after the swallow, with crackery elements in the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation; lacks crispness

Overall: Probably a shadow of its former self; though the hops have faded, the sweetness was unexpected

Thanks, chocosushi, for the opportunity

I know this is retired, but I picked up some last week...wonder how out of date it is....

Has a nice straw color with a nice white head.

It has a bit of a grapefruit flavor with a nice white bread malt backbone.

It has a decently crisp finish but isn't sparkling.

This is a nice lager that is way more complex than a BMC but isn't as crisp as a euro lager. I like it and am sad to learn that it is now out of production...

12oz->Hoegaarden Hexagon glass

A ~ Absolutely beautiful pale gold/dark straw. Head is abundant and dissipates in craters.

S ~ Wheat, Citrus, Golden Delicious Apples, European Hops

T ~ Great grain flavors (wheat/oat/barley), an abundance of Apple fruit/skins, & Spicy hops make up the bulk of the body. Grass & White grape w/ a touch of citrus make an appearence

M ~ Slightly cloying, but very crisp. Fruit flavors are pleasant.

D ~ I enjoyed this beer, & it is a shame that they are not canning it anymore. Somewhere between a Kœlsch, American Pale Lager & a German Pils, this is a nice lager.
Great can!

Pour - floods the glass with a very pale, yellow, straw color. The head is a foamy half-inch of white foam on top. Clean and clear in appearance with some tiny bubbles at the bottom.

Aroma - grainy with some cereal notes and a bit of lemon peel. Not a whole lot in the nose but that is to be expected from the style.

Taste - crisp and light are the first two descriptors that come to mind. Some nice sweet honey flavors come out along with the grainy/maltiness that came out in the aroma. With this style we're looking for something that's light-bodied and dry in the finish without being too sweet or too flat. This hits all the marks quite well. Not a lot of malty sweetness on the tongue but the carbonation and body make for a very refreshing beer.

Overall - easy drinking, light-bodied lager that is adjunct-free. This is not an easy style to produce so kudos to the folks at Tallgrass for successfully concocting this one. This dances down your throat and leaves you thirsty for more without being too full to throw your hand back in the cooler.

Would I buy more of it? - are they still canning this?

Poured into a Pint glass from the new cans. I like!

Pours much clearer than it did when this beer first came out. Still quite hazy for a lager.

Tastes quite odd, as it smells odd for a lager. It's most like a wheat kolsch if such a thing existed. Really not a lager, and certainly not a pils. '

A very odd beer overall.

A - Pours a cloudy straw yellow with a 3 finger that forms a nice cap and stays throughout the glass.

S - Acidic apple/citrus, bright hay, doughy bread underneath,

T - Fruity, white grapes and lemon koolaid powder, very faint lager yeast, doughy biscuit malt, light hops and some white pepper.

M - Medium bodied, zippy carbonation helps with the wet finish.

Too much lemon going. Finish was kinda weak. It's a thirst quencher on a hot day.

Thanks to woodychandler for this can.

A: The pils opens with a hiss and generates a great deal of soft white head, including 3 plus fingers in the glass. On second pour, the craggy lace is swallowed up, leaving a minimum amount behind. The pils is cloudy and pale, a straw color that seems limp, not quite the crystal clear pils variety.

S: The nose is citric, tarter than a pils should be, at first. Hoppiness is evident, a citrusy grass aroma atop the pale biscuit.

T: The lemony flavors continue, you sure this is a pils? Grassy hops, with a side of citrus, define the lager. Biscuity malts support the flavor, with a citric tang that makes me think of wheat. That tanginess subsides as the beer warms, eventuallyy replaced by the grassy citrus hops. The pale biscuit is soft, a light flavor amongst the hops. I'm not sure which aspect I liked better, the citric start or the hoppier finish.

M: Despite the large head, the carbonation is minimal. That hurts things a bit. The strong hoppiness is a redeeming factor.

O: It's no pils but it tastes good.

16 oz can into a Pils glass. This is from an assortment of KS brewery selection generously traded to me by JeepCop. Thanks Dale!

This pours an extremely crystal clear straw gold, with 1 ½ fingers of bright-white head. A the thin foamy retention on this stays rich and leaves back a frothy cascade that slowly creeps back down, leaving some light spotty lacing behind. The aroma is grassy and touch spicy, with notes of lemon zest and light earthiness. A sweet graininess lends support along the back.

The taste has a bit of a hoppy bite to it up front, with bitter citrus and spice that is quickly followed by a smack of tart lemon. This then segues into a backbone of grainy and husky feeling sweet malts. The finish on this is very dry with some light lingering spicy bitterness. The mouthfeel is lighter bodied, with a sharpness that prickles the roof of the mouth but then turns into more of a foamy creaminess as you swallow. Low alcohol leaves this easy drinking and approachable.

While not the most full flavored Lager that I've ever had, this had a biting and refreshing quality to it that I can't ignore and this glass disappeared much quicker than I anticipated. Maybe I benefited from a super fresh can but this was just the refreshing fix that I needed at the moment.
