Oasis is a Double ESB/IPAish beer that came about from playing around with one of Jeff’s favorite homebrew recipes. Here at Tallgrass we love malt and we love hops, and this beer has both of them in record quantities; well, at least records for our baby brewery.

At a hefty 7.2% ABV and 93 IBU, Oasis is a big beer that has to be priced a bit higher than our regular line of beers. We think that once you taste the over-the-top hops and surprisingly sturdy malt backbone you will realize why it’s worth it.

Definitely not a fruit-extract seasonal shandy, this beer is meant to be enjoyed on the back porch, the front porch, or even on the stoop. What's a stoop? Well, it's a good place to drink beer, is what it is.

From old, undated notes. Poured from the can.

Murky red-orange color.

Bright white head; incredible lacing.

Citrus hops & bread-y malts compete in the nose (the malts win).

Medium mouthfeel.

Hops win out in the flavor; this is a bit bitter for me, but light citrus notes come out.

Not great, but my favorite ESB so far.

L: Pours brilliant copper colored amber under a 3” finely bubbled white to cream colored foam cap that slowly recedes. S: Nose is not intense, grassy, earthy hop in background, some biscuit T: Rich biscuit and nuts support a rich, grapefruit rind hop bitterness. F: Medium to medium full body O: A very good ESB.

Poured from can into a Bell's-branded shaker-pint, Tallgrass' Oasis pours with surprisingly little foam at the head, despite billowing bubbles throughout the body, along with a roiling, gaseous bite on the tongue. Indeed, the clean, crisp texture is belied a bit by the initial characteristics: both its deep, orange-brown complexion, with nice particulation, as well as its sweet, boozy nose, might otherwise suggest a heavier ale, one that relies more completely on its malt's gravity and grain. But though it's true to its ESB designation—deep, reddened, well-bodied and robust malting, with a good, early-boil bittering deployment of hops—it's also grassy, fresh, and even a bit woody tasting, thanks to the (seemingly) generous dry-hopping, while moreover not punching one with its bitterness as much as the 93 IBU and "Imperial" tag might suggest.

It's a shame this ale was retired, because it's big but sessionable, stylistically conflated in an interesting fashion, extremely refreshing for a 7.2% abv ESB, and just generally tasty.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a copper color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of hops, some caramel malts. Taste is hops, pine, alcohol, a touch of malts. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and although I'm not a big fan of this style, this is a pretty good beer.
