A: Pours nicely into my NB "Mine" Imperial Pint glass. Copper-amber in color. Initially, a 1-2 inch, soft, brownish white head sits on top. This dies down to a light head. Good lacing down the sides. Moderate carbonation.
S: Strong hoppy aromas with resiny pine and some grapefruit. Some other herbal tones too. The malts come out nicely with caramel and toffee being ever present. The yeast seems to add a little woody and mineral character as well. Smells great.
T: The malts come at me first with a rounded caramel flavor followed by some toffee notes. A hint of breadiness and toast as well. The hops aren't as flavorful as the nose would suggest, but I do get some slight grapefruit character followed by a strong, piney bitterness. Almost resinous. I get some faint yeast character in the end with some woodiness.
M: Light to medium bodied. Good carbonation for an IPA like brew. Finishes a bit sticky in the throat.
D: A really nice beer overall. Definitely not an ESB, not quite an IPA. Kind of a blend between the two. The hops are really strong in this beer and may actually hold it back a little. I felt the bitterness was a little harsh when compared to the body. Nevertheless, it is a really good beer. A must try in my opinion. Happy to have it readily available in the area.

Wow!! This one was a very pleasant surprise, after having Ethos, my expectations were that this one would be inferior, but in my opinion, that was NOT the case. One thing, I prefer piney IPAs vs grapefruity ones, which makes me biast in favor of this one.
As mentioned above, this has a piney hops flavor to this one, a lot like Sierra Nevada's Torpedo, which I adore. I'm not experienced with the ESB part, so I can't say much there, but overall, this beer absolutely hits the spot, and I will be a regular customer year round.
