Poured a tall boy of this into a Sam Adams special glass.
Appearance is great with this. Clear amber cinnamon color with an excellent off white head that lasts forever.
Aroma really isn't there? Slight hoppy notes, grassy, pine, but nothing strong.
Hop bitterness is there but the malt is dominant. The hops are providing some pine but sweet is the main flavor here. Finishes with a bitter hop note.
I wouldn't call this a double. It's an IPA but the hop flavor just isn't where it should be. Bitter, yes. Hop flavor and aroma, ehh.
I'm guessing they need more late hop additions and dry hopping to round this out.
Overall, I wouldn't turn this down but your money is best spent elsewhere.

Wow!! This one was a very pleasant surprise, after having Ethos, my expectations were that this one would be inferior, but in my opinion, that was NOT the case. One thing, I prefer piney IPAs vs grapefruity ones, which makes me biast in favor of this one.
As mentioned above, this has a piney hops flavor to this one, a lot like Sierra Nevada's Torpedo, which I adore. I'm not experienced with the ESB part, so I can't say much there, but overall, this beer absolutely hits the spot, and I will be a regular customer year round.
