We love this beer here at the brewery, and think you will have one of those “I’ve never-tasted-a-beer-like-that” kind of moments when you try it!

What we really like about this beer is the smoothness that brewing with cream sugar brings to the palate. This smoothness balances out the copious quantities of roasted barley used in the brewing process to create a rich, complex, and delicious beer. If you have not been a stout drinker in the past, give this beer a try. It might just change your mind about how dark beers should taste. It tastes so rich, but is surprisingly easy to drink!

Appearance: Dark brown brew, appears surprisingly bubbly, and capped with a medium-sized, light khaki head.

Smell: Mild aroma altogether. Roasted malted barley with very thin notes of block chocolate, coffee hit with a little cream. Light hint of fruitiness. Not much happening here, I'm afraid.

Taste: Begins with a nice pop of chocolate, then, some coffee. Slight creaminess. Moderate sweetness throughout. Light molasses. Very little fruitiness showing a bit of prune. Low hop character, bitterness. Malty, mildly roasty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Fairly good. While light in the aromatics department, it was solid in flavor. A bit more carbonation than anticipated, not that I found that to be disagreeable.

Can shared by Jason, courtesy of buzze40. 16oz into a tulip.

Dark brown, with clarity at the edges. Light brown head. Nose has a bit of dark chocolate, roasted grains, coffee and roasted nuts. Sweeter malt lending to a creamy stout nose. Taste is sweeter than the nose, roast grains, coffee grains and a light bitterness that rolls into the finish, but the sweetness prevails. Thin body, and lighter than I'd like but still serves the beer well. Low carbonation.

Served out of a 16-oz can and poured into a tumbler pint glass.

Appearance - Dark walnut to black in color, with very little head, even with an aggressive pour. Head dissipation is almost immediate.

Smell - I had a hard time latching onto a dominant smell, beyond the notes of semi-sweet chocolate. In hindsight, I think allowing the beer to warm a bit would have helped in this area.

Taste - Again I think that tasting this one right out of the fridge deadened the taste, the same way it seemed to deaden the aroma. It is certainly a smooth, easy-drinking stout, and while it has a slightly sweet finish (as milk stouts are wont to do), it's dryer than most other milk stouts I've sampled. There is much less of the intense espresso bitterness than say in a coffee stout.

Mouthfeel - As noted previously, this is an incredibly smooth and creamy stout. The carbonation is a fleeting component, and contributes to the smoothness.

Overall - I can think of several stouts I would choose in front of this one, but I would certainly enjoy this one if it came as part of a Tallgrass sampler or something similar.

pint can into pint glass. drink by 04/01/13.

A: dark brown. opaque body. a voluminous off-white head starts things off, however it quickly recedes to a rim of foam. some patches of lacing left behind.

S: dark coffee. sweet chocolate. caramel. burnt sugar. more and more chocolate notes come out as it warms.

T: sweet sugar combines with dark dry chocolate to start things off. definitely getting some creamy aspects finish is very dry. coco and tobacco into the finish.

M: usually I can decipher the use of oatmeal from the mouthfeel of a brew, however not getting the traditional creaminess that is associated with the use of oats. medium bodied.

D: not a bad stout from Tallgrass. would be really awesome if they could nitrogenate this brew/these cans. would add an appreciated dimension to the body.

A - Black, deep brown with a foamy soda like tan head that leaves a small amount of foam remaining.

S - Roasted malts, almost burnt, with some milk chocolate sweetness.

T - Roasted malts with some sweet milk chocolate. Light astringency from heavily roasted malts off sets the sweetness.

M - Fairly light for style with medium carbonation. Balance between watery and creamy.

D - Fairly basic milk stout but done well. Very easy to drink. I really like all the firkins Tallgrass is putting out of this beer with different ingredients in each one. They have all been a nice surprise at a fest or bars.
