Notes/Commercial Description:
We love this beer here at the brewery, and think you will have one of those “I’ve never-tasted-a-beer-like-that” kind of moments when you try it!

What we really like about this beer is the smoothness that brewing with cream sugar brings to the palate. This smoothness balances out the copious quantities of roasted barley used in the brewing process to create a rich, complex, and delicious beer. If you have not been a stout drinker in the past, give this beer a try. It might just change your mind about how dark beers should taste. It tastes so rich, but is surprisingly easy to drink!

Served in a chilled pint glass at Brixx. From notes. Reviewed 25 July 2011.

A: Thin head, black beer. Dark red and barely translucent in direct backlighting.

S: Chocolate malts are strong and sweet. Simple, but nice.

T/M: Light in both body and flavour. Reminiscent of generic English ales; lackluster and boring. Sweetish, but dry on the endtaste without being bitter. Lots of chocolate. Not terrible, just muted and plain. Mouthfeel is also a letdown, and lightly watery.

O: Very smooth, sweet, and drinkable. Meh. Won't have it on-tap again, but I can see it being popular.

Oooh yeah, tall boy cans ftw! Thanks to bunkrock (Reddit) for this.

Pours a darker mocha colored thick buy fizzy looking almost creamy head rises to a finger but fades at a med pace, then stops at a nice creamy 1/2 finger head covering with some decent lacing, over very dark almost black colored with hints of ruby light sneaking through the corners.

Nose starts with a light metallic roasty almost burnt slightly acrid aroma, but that fades very quickly and turns to nice creamy stout, plenty of cocoa, little cocoa nib like and creamy chocolate milk, lots of oats as well, and a bit of a powdered chocolate, some roasted malts, and a hint of bitterness.

Taste starts creamy, big creamy milk flavor, lactose straight up, a little chocolate milk, powdered cocoa, etc, and some oats. Then a light gritty powdered coffee grind like chewy thing, I can't explain except that it seems like very fine grinds suspended in the beer, with a bit of a coffee flavor, a little roast and slight acrid burnt roast flavor, with a touch of tin. Then a slight bitterness, little chalky finish, fairly dry as well, more of the grinds and gritty feel, lingering roast and cocoa.

Mouth is med bodied but creamy, lush, but at the same time chalky and gritty, decent carb.

Overall not bad, nice malt flavors except a bit of burnt metallic acrid roast, but not a lot, nice mocha, nice creamy oats and plenty of lactose, and another negative with that charred powdered chalky gritty feel.

16oz can poured into a tulip

A: Pours a deep black no light getting through on this one, has about two fingers worth of a khaki brown head that slowly fades leaving behind a nice lacing.

S: Coffee, dark chocolate, and some roasted malt.

T: Coffee, dark chocolate, oats and roasted malts.

M: Has a medium body with a moderate amount of carbonation.

O: A very drinkable oatmeal stout not overly complex but is very well brewed.

16oz can poured into an imperial pint glass.

A - Very dark but not opaque. Medium sized tan head, tight bubbles collapses to a small cap.

S - A wealth of creamy chocolate tones. Vanilla mixed in. Sweetness reminiscent of molasses. Mild coffee roast.

T - Creamy chocolate malt foremost. Mid-palate comes in a high level of caramely sweetness. Sweet/creamy finish. Flavors carry well into the aftertaste.

M - Sweet, medium-full body, medium-low carbonation.

O - Almost exactly what I would expect for the style. Complex nose, straight forward taste. Another good beer from Tallgrass.

An easy drinking sweet stout. A bit of an off smell from the pour that I can't place. Just smells mineraly like vitamins or peas or something. The head is a dark foam thing. Very dark. Brown.

Quite fizzy. Very chocolately, slight burnt malt bitter. Burnt sugar taste. Coffee. A lingering bitterness but not a hoppy bitterness. A burnt bitterness. Leaves the mouth quite quickly.

Creamy smoothness. Body is significant but doesn't stick around long.

It's a little flabby, a little sweet, a little too bitter for me to really get on board with it. But pretty easy drinking.

A - Solid black/brown with no light penetration. 2-finger, creamy cappuccino head. Solid lacing as the head dies down. This beer is a pleasure to pour.

S - Mostly coffee, with hints of lactose.

T - The lactose becomes more present at first, then rounds out into coffee and oatmeal. It's almost like having sour milk in your coffee, but it tastes much better than it sounds.

M - Medium-light. A lot smoother than I expected from the appearance.

O - This is not a complex beer, but the flavors that are present are well-rounded and very enjoyable. It's become my go-to stout when I want something familiar and available.
