16oz. can (with the best art ever)

Pours a light orange color. Nothing surprising or out of the norm here. Less than a finger of loose, white head. Minimal lacing.

Light crackery malts in this pale ale meet the acclaimed Galaxy hop. Well, it doesn't smell all that hoppy. It's just an APA, I know. You get trace amounts of lemon and grass and candied pineapple. Trace amounts. There's a sweet bready yeast note too. The hop aromas are nice, but they need to be stronger.

The taste does deliver on the faint promise of the nose, thankfully. It's lightly tropical -- again with the candied pineapple and the lemon. Not very bitter, so the average amount of malt flavor takes some stronger precedence. It tastes good. What keeps it from scoring a 4.0 for me is the yeast character. It's pretty strong and sweet and at this point Tallgrass risks their beers tasting samey. This yeast flavor is the same as in Tallgrass IPA and in Oasis. I could identify a Tallgrass beer in a blind tasting without difficulty, at this point.

Nice mouthfeel: it's lightly sweet and wet, with a soft carbonation tingle. Overall, this is a very solid APA. With a few tweaks it could enter into the conversation of some of the Midwest/Plains best APAs. (1,231 characters)

Serving glass: Poured from can into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Light, hazy honey-gold with foamy, stark white head.

Smell: Dry, tart and sweet all at the same time. Grapefruit, mango, pineapple and tea.

Taste: Dry malty backbone with tea and caramel that is fairly English-like. The hops are definitely not English-style, with orange, grapefruit, other tropical fruits, spice and floral notes. It is actually hard to pick out individual flavors, as it is all integrated very well. Fairly bitter finish for an APA.

Feel: Medium bodied, with a fantastic firm creaminess. Carbonation is relatively low, and the finish is nice and dry.

Overall: Nice APA that actually manages to be original in a category that is usually pretty straightforward. I hope this raises awareness and sales for Tallgrass, who, while hit or miss in my opinion, definitely hit at least a triple with this one. (891 characters)

Rich golden colored. Massive tightly knit off white head that's easily an inch thick. Brussels lacing. Great clarity. Aroma of vegetal Galaxy hops. The flavor is fairly bitter and prominently features the vegetal Galaxy hops. The fade is light malt with a hint of Galaxy hops. The mouth is dry and somewhat chalky. (314 characters)

L: Brilliant gold to amber, 2” ferocious off-white head that produces excellent lace. S: Rich biscuit with grassy hops on the nose. T: A light fruity attack with some apricot and orange supported by biscuit finishes with a pleasant hop bitterness. F: It has a medium body but the fine soft carbonation takes it to a new level. O: This beer is very well put together, well balanced. (383 characters)

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright and cloudy golden orange with lots of rising bubbles. Huge five finger white head with good retention. Lots of lacing clinging to the glass.

Smell: A nice crisp aroma of citrus hops with hints of orange peel, lemon, and grapefruit. Also a good presence of floral, grassy hops. Nice background of biscuity pale malts and yeast. Light hint of honey. Hop presence is very sharp for a smaller pale ale.

Taste: A nice blend of citrus and grassy hops up front with notes of orange, lemon, grapefruit, and a little bit of spice. Solid backbone of bready pale malts and yeast. Nice vibrant hop forward taste and well balanced by the malts. Very crisp and solid.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Very crisp, zesty, and smooth. Finishes pretty dry.

Overall: A very solid take on a American Pale Ale. Hops are nicely sharp and crisp and the malts add a nice bready taste. (988 characters)
