Essentially, someone has figured out how to carbonate chocolate milk with a splash of vanilla extract and market it as beer. I had heard great things about this brew ... and was very disappointed. This is by far one of the worst beers I've encountered, one of our tasting team jokingly commented about mixing miller lite with chocolate milk... sorry.
A: The appearance and smell initially had me very excited. Dark with a thin foamy head.
S: The aroma really peaked my senses; enticing vanilla and chocolate.
T: Watery chocolate milk... There just wasn't much umph to this drink or complexity. It honestly tasted like someone took a can of carbonated water and mixes it with chocolate milk. Or perhaps a vanilla root beer when the dispenser is running out of syrup to mix and you have a completely off but very carbonated drink.
M: Very thin beer, I personally enjoy mine much thicker. There was no creaminess which I often associate with Vanilla based beers etc. Very effervescent and sparkly, far too much...
O: This was a very disappointing beer. I really tried to give this one a chance, it was initially chilled and as I drank allowed it to warm to see if it would change in flavor depth and complexity... all I got was a vanilla chocolate fizziness. Perhaps I had a bad batch? But I'm a little afraid to try it again when there are so many other outstanding beers.

Serving glass: Poured from can into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Appearance: Ruby black with thin tan head and spotty lacing.
Smell: Vanilla, sweet molasses, roasted malt and milk chocolate.
Taste: Nice semi-sweet mix of chocolate, vanilla, molasses, roasted malt and licorice. Like the standard Buffalo Sweat, there aren't much hops, but the sharp vanilla taste helps improve the finish.
Feel: Low carbonation, smooth body that is fairly light. Seems much creamier than the standard Buffalo Sweat, and as a result, the thinness is less apparent or doesn't bother me.
Overall: A definite improvement over the base beer. Now how about a Double version?

A-poured from a can into a pint glass this beer explodes into a creamy light tan head. Black with ruby highlights when held up to light
S-rich roasted malt with notes of chocolate and a hint of vanilla beans
T-more roasted flavored than sweet this beer still finishes a bit sweet but definitely not over the top. Subtle flavors from the vanilla beans accent this sweet stout nicely.
M-like a good milk stout this baby is damn creamy. The moderate carbonation carries the flavors very nicely
O-just like tallgrass buffalo sweat this is a very creamy and richly flavored milk stout. Well done

Dark as night and impenetrable to light. A good half inch head of khaki colored foam rests on top. Aroma of oatmeal with a hint of vanilla. There's a bit of a coffee note present. The body seems a bit thin for what I'm looking at. The taste is initially dark malt and oats and then it quickly fades. Perhaps it needs a bit more body or bittering hops to get to the next level.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a Surly tulip glass. Can says drink by 06/09/13.
Appearance: Pours a very dark blackish brown with a slight hint of ruby. About one finger of tan head that quickly fades into thin patches. Leaves a decent amount of lacing around the glass.
Smell: A sweet, roasty, malt driven aroma with a big dose of vanilla. Dark roasted malts with good hints of sweet chocolate, coffee bean, oats, and a big scent of vanilla beans. Also hints of sweet toasted caramel, toffee, milk, cream, nuts, grains, biscuit, and yeast. Some brown sugar adding to the sweetness. Subtle presence of earthy hops in the background. A very solid sweet stout aroma.
Taste: Like the smell hints, a sweet and roasty milk stout taste with a big shot of vanilla. Dark roasted malts with notes of chocolate, coffee bean, big vanilla bean, oats, and toast. Along with that are notes of milk, cream, caramel, toffee, nuts, yeast, biscuit, and grains. Some sweet burnt brown sugar. Some earthy hops provide a little dryness towards the finish. The creamy chocolate and vanilla stand out the most. A pretty solid taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very creamy, silky, and smooth. Somewhat slick.
Overall: A very good milk/sweet stout. The vanilla beans add a nice shot of flavor.

Super big light brown head slowly settles into a decent lacing above a clear dark brown to black colored beer.
Rich roasted grain malts aroma with a hint of the vanilla beans coming through.
There is more of the vanilla bean coming through in the taste then was present in the aroma which adds nicely to the rich dark roasted malts.
Big dry aftertaste with a lot of flavor sticking around on this full bodied beer.
A worthy addition to all the stouts I have tried.
