I generally like Tallgrass beers, and wanted to check out this interesting newish offering. Tasted 1 July 2013.

Pours essentially black, and nearly opaque but for some light coming through brown at the edges. One finger of medium tan head, okay retention, okay lacing. Good stuff.

Smell is warm vanilla over the top of a faint stout. The vanilla's really nice, rich and sweet and interesting, but I want more stout. I get a bit of roast, but otherwise it's all vanilla.

Taste is good; a bit more stout here, but it's still all about the vanilla and sweetness. A bit of dark roasty char comes in at the back, but I want more!

Feel is excellent. Light but full, billowing up in my mouth. Carbonation is at times fluffy, at times frizzy, providing both volume and texture. Delightful.

A very tasty low-ABV stout. My biggest complaint is that it's all vanilla, and no stout. If it were called "vanilla beer", that'd be okay. But as a vanilla stout, I'm a little disappointed.

A-Black in the glass but a clear brown when pouring. Not much carbonation. One finger off white head that dissipates instantly.

S-Too sweet vanilla flavor. Some chocolate as well but mainly overly sweet (artificial?) vanilla.

T-Very sweet poorly balanced vanilla. Some chocolate and a tad bit of malt.

M-Light, watery, not much carbonation.

O- The vanilla kills this beer. It was poorly done, overly sweat and destroys any balance.

16oz. can poured into a snifter.

(A)- Pours almost pitch black. Minimal tan froth.

(S)- Vanilla, right off the bat. Lots of raisin too. A subtle chalky cocoa to it.

(T)- Similar to the smell. Great vanilla character with the raisin and mild roasted malts.

(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. Smooth and malty with just the right amount of sweetness to it.

(O)- A solid variation with the vanilla added. Not overly sweet yet with plenty of richness.

A: Pours black from a 16-oz can into a tall glass. Tan head.

S: Definite coffee aroma

T: Sweet roast malt with hints of molasses, coffee, mocha and (slight) vanilla.

M: Very smooth, much moreso than other stouts or porters I've had recently.

O: Had a tallboy of this in a wine shop after a nice plate of chicken vesuvio at the Italian restaurant next door, and it really hit the spot. A fine stout that I hadn't had before but will definitely try again.

This pours a dark brown color with a foamy, light brown head. The aroma is sweet with malts, coffee, and molasses but not much of a vanilla smell. The taste is smooth, sweet, and robust. The texture is lighter and not as thick or heavy as the regular Buffalo Sweat. There is a slight hint of vanilla, but it’s not as evident as other vanilla stouts in the market.
