Super dark, with a strong roasty and vanilla aroma. Pours with a thick, tan, rocky head - but reduces fairly quickly. Taste is thick with vanilla, with the bitter malty linger of a traditional stout.

Run of the mill black, not midnight black or dark brown, but right in the middle. Small beige head in the 1/2" range. Mild roasted malts, vanilla heavy aroma, enjoyable.

Taste, smooth, not thick, tempered sweetness, substantial vanilla. ABV in check, mouthfeel silky, sweet and vanilla predominant. Oatmeal smooths it out well, not a lot of roast and bitterness in this one. Better than the base beer.

Once again, we have a CAN courtesy of my local, in-person trader, tone77, who CAN show up on my porch whenever it is CANvenient for him. He brings such great beers and is outstanding about returning the empty CANs for further transfer to Jeff Lebo. Viva The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "Oatmeal Cream Stout brewed with Vanilla Beans"; "Est 2007"; "Fresh Beer = Best Beer. Please keep refrigerated."

I CAN follow directions and since this was up in the rotation, I figured to add it to The CANQuest (tm), beginning with a Crack! An inverted Glug resulted in a pseudo-cascade, followed by two-plus fingers of dense, light-tan head with reasonable retention. Color was Black/Opaque (SRM = 44) with garnet highlights at the edges. Nose had a roastiness underlain by something that I could not identify. I am sure that it was the presence of vanilla beans, but I would be unable to swear to it. Mouthfeel was thin, especially for the style. The taste was the polar opposite of my last stout. In this case, it was really sweet, unquestionably vanilla, but WAY too sweet for the likes of me. It also had a slight chocolatiness, but either way, the sweetness was really cloying. Finish was sweet, a combination of vanilla and chocolate, more like a dessert beer than I really care to drink.

This beer pours an opaque dark brown with a thick yet fizzy, one finger mocha head. Retention is solid and there is no lacing. Smell is much nicer in this version than the regular. Rich roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, coffee and cream are all prevalent. Taste is the same. Feel is light, smooth and creamy. Overall an excellent beer. Very light and drinkable, but still so flavorful.

Pours a dark brown color, with a head which dissipates quickly.

Smell is fairly conventional, predominantly of malts.

The taste does not surprise, it tastes like a vanilla-infused cream stout - and it's great. It's straightfoward all-right, but the combination between the milkiness of the regular Buffalo Sweat, and the present yet fairly subtle vanilla is a killer. I really enjoyed the original, and I really enjoy this.

APPEARANCE: Very dark brown, Finger+ of tan head that dissipates in a few minutes and leaves a ring on top of the beer. Medium amount of tiny bubbles streaming up the pint glass.
AROMA: Chocolate, vanilla, and coffee. Smells very pleasant.
TASTE: Again, it's Vanilla, coffee, and chocolate. I pickup the oatmeal in the flavor not so much the aroma. Nice.
FEEL: A bit creamy, then you get some nice carbonation to push the flavors around. The body is on the thinner side, not at all chewy, well it's 5% abv.
OVERALL: Just as advertised, lots of vanilla, chocolate, coffee, and a touch of the oatmeal. Pretty tasty stout.

Nice American stout. Lots of coffee comes through. The vanilla is subtle and the overall flavor profile is more sweet than bitter. Super drinkable. Love it!!

Look: It's fantastic. Jet black beer sits below a thin, tan head. The head dissipates rather quickly.

Smell: it seems I can just smell a malts, which is pleasant. I cannot detect anything else.

Taste: malts mix with vanilla. As the taste edges away, the vanilla takes a larger presence before disappointing. Good, but not great.

Feel: overall, a smooth, quality mouth feel. I wouldn't say it's the best, but it certainly doesn't disappoint in this regard.

Overall: enjoyable beer! I rather like the packaging. It's a quality brew that I would certainly recommend.

Served in a 12 oz snifter.

I'd rather have a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch with Kahlua, because that is exactly how this brew tasted. I enjoy other variants much more, but this one is too sweet for my liking.

A top-notch stout. The vanilla not only helps mild out any potential graininess that could come with the stout variety, but it also brings with it a great level of sweetness.

16oz can, drink by date of 4/15/16. Pours hazy brown with a medium sized tan head. Smells of roasted malt, cinnamon, vanilla, oats, and some subtle earthy/piny hops. The taste follows closely with malt, cinnamon, hops, and vanilla. Some sweetness. Very thin body for the style and above average carbonation. Overall, it's got a pretty good flavor profile, but it desperately needs a better mouthfeel.

Tallgrass Vanilla Bean Buffalo Sweat, Buffalo Sweat Stout brewed with vanilla beans, Brewed and Canned by Tallgrass Brewing Company, Manhattan, Kansas. 1.057 OG, 20 IBU, Alc. 5.0% by Vol.

Dark brown, nearly black, with intense carbonation, under a light tan head, slowly reduced to a tight ring.

Aroma is sweet vanilla, met quickly with cocoa and cream. That's about it, but that's all you need. Beautiful blend.

Tasting it: smooth and creamy. Buffalo Sweat is a milk oatmeal stout to begin with, with plenty of chocolate malt flavor inherent. Add the vanilla, and it's just another tasty treat, soft, and supple and utterly easy to drink. Medium-bodied, mellow mouthfeel. Little bitterness, moderate sweetness. Lays down nice and easy on the palate.
Delicious.

All the flavors were there. It was the base beer of Buffalo Sweat with added vanilla. It tasted good, but left no impression on me. I found myself bored drinking it. There was nothing that made me want to go back for more.

Excited for this one!

A : Tarry black but has some tints of brown chocolate in the color. 95% opaque. The head is kind of an angry red/pink cloud after a storm/slightly off white color. It's colossal at first but within a minute's time recedes to a fluffy ring. It's loosely knitted. Solid appearance.

S : It's like mixing chocolate and regular animal crackers together. There's roast french vanilla coffee, and oh it smells divine. It's like waking up in the morning. There's some faint tobacco and earth from the alcohol and hops - but it's not burnt smelling like a lot of stouts I've nosed. It stays above that "threshold" where the earth isn't burnt or charred. I like that. Major kudos. Only thing keeping it from a 5 is : 1) I wish the bouquet were slightly stronger (just because I like it so much), and 2) I wish it would have come with a free Vanilla Bean Stout air freshener.

T : Very heavy on the coffee and roast flavors, as well as some earth and dark chocolate. The vanilla comes in shortly after but is subdued, using more of a vanilla BEAN approach, rather than a vanilla extract. This keeps it from becoming too sweet, but personally I'd welcome that slight boost of sweetness. There's a slight zing of yeast in the body as well. This boosts the flavor profile substantially. It finishes out with a hint of char and a slight smokiness.

F : Pretty creamy, but still on the light side of full-bodied. Can you chew it? A bit. But it's not overly thick, and a deep-seated injection of carbonation keeps it from becoming sappy. It ends like a coffee would, roasted and huffy, but still fairly sweet on the palate.

O : Would I have this again? Absolutely. Do I like it more than the original Buffalo Sweat? It's been too long to remember. I do know that I like both of them quite a bit. I may be leaning more toward the Original, but make no mistake, this is a solid Stout. Highly recommended, Tallgrass makes some solid beers.

I LOVED this beer. It was pretty thin and drank more like a session stout, but the nose and taste was spectacular. Really strong notes of vanilla and coffee throughout. Very enjooyable and drinkable.

poured 16oz can into pint glass.

A - Deep black with two fingers of khaki head that fades into a plump cap. Big blobs of lacing on glass.

S - Vanilla is the star here with notes of roasted malts and sweet, milk chocolate and hints of caramel.

T - The Vanilla is mellow and allows the milk chocolate, cocoa, and cream from the stout to come through. Roasted malts, caramel and some malted milk on the finish.

M - Medium body with a velvety feel and ample carbonation.

O - Very tasty sweet stout that does not overdue it. The 16oz can is a cherry on top of this great dessert beer.

I received this one as a trade extra. Wow! Thanks man! This is totally solid!

Appearance: Not as dark as some stouts there is a little transparency in this stout but considering the abv. I don't think that is a major issue.

Aroma: Nice vanilla caramel and roasted malts. This smells like a whopper! Its has a very nice aroma.

Taste: Very clean and appealing, this is a sessionable stout. I love the vanilla notes and like the aroma its like drinking a whopper but not overly sweet. This is a very nice beer. I totally enjoyed this one and I hope my number reflect that.

Overall: Seek this one out if you want something that is sweet and enjoyable but definitely not cloying. Very cool beer. Thanks so much for sending this one as an extra!

Nice dark beer, clear around the edges, with a decent tan head with good retention.

Lots of vanilla on the nose, enveloping a very roasty stout base.

Tallgrass knocks it out of the park in the flavor department: waves and waves of vanilla, without ever seeming to be overmuch. Nice roasty backbone, carrying a slightly burnt toast flavor to the barley and a touch of chocolate.

Easy drinking; not particularly thick, which is unsurprising for such a low ABV stout.

Regular Buffalo Sweat is a very good stout, and the vanilla bean variety does not disappoint. I wish I had regular access to this; delicious!

1 pt can, poured into a snifter at approximately 50 degrees F.

Appearance: Pours a deep, dark, bordering on black brown, which pools into the glass as black liquid shot through with carbonation. It forms a thick, fizzy head of tan foam, which rapidly dies away completely, leaving no trace. The surface of the beer bubbles continually in much the same way as a soft drink.

Smell: Chocolate and vanilla well out of the glass, wreathed around a backdrop equal measures roasty and sweet with lactose. There's just enough of a coffee hint to make one think of some ice cream parlor's go at a cappuccino flavor.

Taste: The flavor opens with a twin rush of cocoa and vanilla, buoyed by a remarkable sweetness. Some subtle notes of light coffee emerge through the middle, bringing just a hint of bitterness, and dark fruits swell out of the background towards the finish - raisin, plum, and black cherry. The aftertaste has a mixture of lactose sweetness and something almost ashen, with quickly fading echoes of chocolate and vanilla.

Mouthfeel: For a stout, this is rather thin, almost tempting me to use the term "watery", though it never quite gets to that point. There's definitely an overabundance of carbonation, with attendant fizziness and sharpness.

Overall: Thus far, I've been in areas where this beer sees distribution twice, and I brought some home both times. It's a rather refreshing adjunct milk stout, almost what one could term a "session dessert beer" as far as drinkability is concerned. I'm a fan.
