I tried this on tap at Quencher's Saloon in Chicago. $5 for a 16oz pint glass.

The beer poured a mostly clear golden/orange color with a ½-finger of white head that actually lasted a few minutes and left some incredible lacing.

Huge hop smell, but also noticeable caramel malt and lots of fruit.

No hiding the fact that there's 6 different hops in here plus it's dry hopped twice. Pine and grapefruit hop bitterness give it a whopping 110 IBU score, but there's also some tangerine/orange flavor there as well. To balance it out they also put in lots of caramel sweetness - maybe too much sweetness as I wasn't that crazy about the sweet/bitter mix.

Creamy smooth mouthfeel. Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation.

Interesting and definitely worth a try. For hopheads with a sweet tooth.

Thanks to Jeff for splitting this can with everyone. Goldenrod, honeysuckle color with a slightly dusty white head that froths up nicley and leaves behind some good lacing. Funny thing, I'm looking at someone else's glass right now. I decided to drink straight from the can... Yeah, I know this isn't Heady Topper, but I was far to tired to be bothered with pouring my own glass!

Grassy hops, even more piney and bitter on the nose with a touch of resins and hop oils. Not quite dank-a-lank, but pretty resinous and "raw", yet not over-the-top with abrasiveness. Good level for a single IPA, I'd say. Malt balance is... nice enough. Some bread with a very, very light toasty note going on. Some moderate citric hops in the finish, but not too much.

The flavor contains a bit more grapefruit, pithy and kind of bitter, followed up by a larger wave of those oily and resinous hops that I was getting on the nose. Piney and actually quite bitter, they'll scrap the saliva from your tongue and clean out your gumline in no time at all. Some mild lemon peel and more grapefruit in the finish, wafting across a soft blanket of bready malt. Medium bodied, crispy with tight carbonation.

Definitely a nice surprise... I wasn't expecting much from this, and it ended up being pretty tasty. Having this one makes me want to get my hands on their "8-Bit" Pale Ale even more now. Solid, piney, bitter IPA with good character and not too much hindrance from the malt side of things. A nice beer to keep on hand.

Poured from a 16oz. can into a Sam Adams pint glass.

This beer pours an attractive orange-yellow with a little haziness. The huge head slowly dissipates to a nice lingering lacing all down the glass.

The smell is not extremely strong but initially hits with some tropical fruit, a hint of yeasty bread and maybe, a touch of caramel.

The taste is very bold. Piney hops blast you tongue along with some tingle from the carbonation. Then you pick yup some of the tropical fruits -- citrus, pineapple, maybe some mango. I get a bit of the sweet malt as well. Nice stuff going on here. The finish is all piney bitter.

The mouthfeel is slightly sticky with an appropriate amount of carbonation.

Overall, this certainly satisfies my hop-craving with a nice mix of flavors and a really decent balance. A really good brew.

16 ounce can, Drink before dating on the bottom of the can - 10-29-13

Pours lightly hazed lighter amber, topped by an off white fluffy head that stays pretty well and leaves thicker strands and blobs of lace.

Nose of grapefruit, nice and fruity

Quite pleasant IPA, nicely hopped with notes of more soft grapefruit and assorted citric qualities. Bready and hoey infused malts bring up the rear and add balance. Drinkable and better then average IPA.

I have lowered my scores somewhat based on a slight soapy taste that I did not notice in the initial 4 pack. I have left my original comments below, and hope that future cans will not have that soapiness, and then I can just delete this intro and bump the scores back up. Still a great beer though.

Serving glass: Poured from can into Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Orange-amber with a huge off-white head that lasts and throws lacing all over the glass.

Smell: Very tropical with mango, pineapple, peach, berry and grapefruit.

Taste: I am sure there are malts here but it is all about the delicious, decadent hops. Mango, grapefruit, orange, peach, pineapple, berry and pine all make their presence known and somehow it really works. Very bitter but there are so many flavors that it is not overwhelming.

Feel: Creamy, smooth, somewhat full body with a very dry finish.

Overall: Every once in a while, a beer completely blows me away and changes my perceptions about a brewery. This is one of those times. The best new IPA I have had in years. Just holy shit.

110 IBUs in a can? I'm intrigued. Light copper penny color with a slight bit of haziness. A quarter inch head lays on top. I get a somewhat subdued aroma of pine like hops. You can tell the sharp bitterness in the aroma but it doesn't seem to linger. The mouthfeel has the stickiness and somewhat chalky texture of an IPA. The intensity of the bitterness of this beer seems to be coming at the back of the palate and has a slow hop burn followed by a significant light malt backbone.

Can (2013)

Thanks for sharing this with me, VaTechHopHead!

Decent IPA from the Midwest. Loads of bitterness and some nice citrus-flavored hop notes. A bit too much malt and sweetness for my personal tastes. A touch of a syrup flavor/mouthfeel. Drinkable.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a Surly tulip glass. Can says drink by 09-19-13.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy copper amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big four finger off white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell:A nice sharp aroma of hops with lots of citrus fruit esters and some caramel malt. Good scent of ripe hops with earthy and floral hints of grass and some pine resin spice. Juicy citrus hop hints of grapefruit, orange pulp, tangerine, pineapple, mango, apricot, and lemon. Solid bready support of toasty malts with hints of caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, and yeast. Smell is pretty hop forward, although its more in the Midwest style of IPA. Very good.

Taste: Lives up to the nose, a very solid hop forward taste with good notes of citrus, pine, and caramel malt. Ripe and chewy hops upfront with good floral and earthy notes with some grass and dank pine resin spice taste. Good juicy taste of citrus hop esters. Notes of grapefruit, oranges, mango, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, and lemon. Solid malt backing with bready notes of caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, toast, and yeast. Very hop forward but the malt is not completely outdone. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Rich, chewy, creamy, and very juicy. Finishes pretty dry.

Overall: A very good IPA. Tallgrass really knocked it out of the park with this one. Great mix of hop esters and a solid malt backing.
