Medium brown color with a light haze. The head was relatively low and did not persist, but I poured this off of a growler so nothing I can count against it.

Mouthfeel includes a moderate body with medium low carbonation (again, because of the growler) and a generally smooth character over the palate. No astringency, which is nice, and with a clean finish.

Aroma shows a moderate level of malt complexity, including light roast, rich breadcrust, and a touch of sweet nutty character. Unfortunately, the complexity also includes a medium low level of diacetyl which is difficult to ignore.

Flavor has similar character to the aroma, but the diacetyl expresses itself a little more boldly, and seems to grow with subsequent tastes. Moderately low bitterness seems too low in the balance, and the beer finishes just a touch sweet with the malt and diacetyl lingering in the aftertaste.

I didn't try this direct off the faucet this time, so I am willing to assume that the diacetyl is not a fundamental part of this brew and give it a second chance next time. That said, I had another growler of a different beer with prominent diacetyl and I am suspicious that this might be part of the house character.

A: Very hazy. Actually murky and ruddy brown. Head is not resilient.

S: Hazlenut, caramel malts, and faint grass.

M: Very fine carbonation is suits this beer well giving it a creamy aspect. Soft but unsticky.

T: Huge nuttiness, caramel and noble hops plays well at the end. The flavors could be blended more to help the beer transition better.

This brewery has it's up and downs. In fact, I remember ignoring it for over a year-the beer styles and more disappointingly seemed state and stagnant. This beer had been officially reincarnated.

The beer pours a clear buckwheat honey brown with a negligible white head. There is no lacing and the head falls to a thin halo around the glass's circumference. The nose is a relatively weak, semi-sweet fruitiness with a little caramel and pine as it warms. The medium bodied, well-carbonated, malty german ale drinks smoothly and leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste. This beer is well made and a tasty pint special.

A hazy light brown beer with reddish highlights, a small white head and some fair lacing on the glass. Aroma is richly malty, with light roast and floral hop aspects.

Not a bad flavored altbier; again there is good malt character, with touches of Saaz hop bitterness, a light fruitiness, and a hint of roast. Not a huge taste but well balanced and pleasing. The bitterness lingers just a bit in the aftertaste.

Smooth and easy to drink; medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not exceptional but not bad either. One wonders if this is the same thing the judges tasted when it won awards at the GABF in the past; this brewpub has a reputation for a high level of inconsistency from batch to batch.
