Bottled as Kolsch 151 with BBD 6/2009. Purchased directly from the brewery. I tried this on tap and it was quite flavorful for a Kolsch...let's see how it measures up on the bottling line. Poured into a short, octagonal funky glass while sitting on the porch outside at my mom's place on a clear early evening in C-Ville...
There's a nice amount of effervescent carbonation pouring up from a honey/straw/hay-colored body up to a thin but lasting 1/4-finger head. Very clear indeed.
I get a lot of crispiness on this one - definitely a nice and fresh hop presence (not Saaz...per the label they're actually Hallertau) here, while the straw-like malts are very light and pleasant. There's a mild raw grain feel to this one and it's quite pleasant. So far I'm not losing a whole lot from tap to bottle.
With a taste the hops come out with a sharp piney bitterness - much less silage-ish than Saaz hops - I don't have a huge exposure to Hallertau but it's pleasant here. It's a little tighter than on tap but not bad at all. There's a slight dry presence - somewhere between slate and metallic - but for a Kolsch it's nice and flavorful.
This one is a little tighter than on tap - it's a little sharp bitterness from the Hallertau hops. The malt is so dry it takes a backseat to the hop bite but the finish, while a little bitter and tight, is cleansing and refreshing.
I must admit...I don't gravitate towards Kolsch or Kolsch-style ales, but having this on tap and now in a bottle has yet again proven that open minds prevail. This is a solid, easy-drinking, straightforward ale with good ingredients and fine craftsmanship. Glad I have some to bring home.

Had this beer from a bottle poured into a tall snifter glass. Hazy pale yellow with a decent initial head and decent lacing. Smell and taste of corn and lemon. Some hoppy bitterness at the finish. Not as crisp as I would expect.

From the can, it pours a hazy light amber color with a modest, soon diminishing, white head. The nose gets a dose of brerady malt. The mouth gets a bit of malt and a touch of fruitiness.

Tasty. Well balanced malts and hops. Bready smell. Golden yellow color. Light carbonation. Minimal head and no lacing on the glass. Smooth, easy drinking. Can't stop with one.

My first brew on tap upon landing at Reagan Airport before 9AM (don't tell my wife.)
An undistinguished kolsch, except for a good cleansing of my palate with bubbles and modest hops.
While the kolsch is something of a hybrid, 151 seems more like a lager. Cleaner and less fruit than an ale.
Blue Mountain, it turns out, just bought another brewer (South Street in Charlottesville) that I had at that same bar.
Blue Mountain started 11 years ago in an ex-urban area, so it is good that it saved and can continue to spread the gospel of craft beer. Another Mom 'n Pop shop (with close friends) makes a go of it with diligence and passion.

Clear straw, not much white head, but it sticks around, and leaves nice lace
Smells like pils malt
Bready, a touch fruity. Not really much going on beyond that
Light bodied and refreshing.
I'm guessing that this became a mainstay after selling well in the brewpub. Folks coming in there just got finished hiking, and needed a light, refreshing beer. Would be damned good in the summer, not sure why it was included in the winter mixed pack.

Poured from a bottle into a slender glass.
Good overall for the style.
Light golden color. Fizzy soda-like head that dissipated. Smell is quite vineous. White grapes and a little winey. Taste is grassy with a hop zing and a winey quality. Minimal malt finish. Medium bodied and sparkly.
