Served on-tap in a clear pint glass.

A: Soft peach color with thin layer of off-white head with a couple of lines of lace.

S: A little soft for a multi-hopped ale with some floral and herbal notes and the usual strong pale malt contribution one comes to expect of BM offerings.

T: Also a little less hoppy than I would expect -- it didn't seem like 60 IBUs. Maybe it was the spicy nachos, but, while it was still enjoyable, the floral and soft citrus hops notes are a little less tastebud-grabbing than I expected. The fresh, slightly sweet malt backbone is there and tasty.

M: A very drinkable ale with medium body and low carbonation. Mild herbal hops aftertaste.

D: A nice offering and very fresh and good, but a little less on the ball hops-wise than I expected.

Full Nelson Wet Hopped Harvest Edition 60 IBU 5.9%

Made with Columbus, Centennial, Amarillo and their own farm grown Cascades.

A-Clear, bright copper with a medium off white head that reduced to a thin cap. Heavy lacing left behind.

S-Fresh blast of spicy and pine hops with an underlying tones of citrus. Nice and fresh like a harvest should be! Citrus notes become more pronounced upon warming.

T-Piney hop smack with a very astringent aspect. Malt present but does not take on a sweetness at all. A bit of spiciness in the background.

M-Medium body with a long lasting bitterness and a very dry finish.

D-Well done harvest ale. A bit more piney/spicy than I would like....where's the citrus in the flavour profile? Regardless of the lack of citrus this is good nonetheless. Nice job using their own grown hops.

On-tap at the brewery in Afton. This is a wonderful addition to their already strong line-up. Seems they have beaten the rush on this now popular style. Nice that the hops are grown on site as well.

This beer, like other wet-hopped ales, has a strong, continuous hop flavor that is ever-present but not astringent. I was surprised there was not more aroma to this beer. Overall, great color and taste. A solid offering.

On tap at Blue Mountain Brewery's tasting room in Afton, VA. Served in a traditional American pint glass. Similar recipe to their "house" Full Nelson, but wet-hopped with freshly picked Cascades from their own vines.

Appearance: Similar to the regular Full Nelson - that is, a nice orange red amber bodied beer, filtered, with sparse and slow bubbles - but with an extra fierce, extra long-lasting head with extra-attractive lacing. Wonderful what hops can do to the appearance of a beer.

Aroma: Leafy, vegetal, and lightly citrusy hops jump out without any agitation - smells literally like liquid Cascades. A few other notes (the "house" Full Nelson) jump out, as well, but the aroma is pretty much all about the Cascade oils.

Taste: Interesting, again, similar to the regular Full Nelson - that is, a complex and wholesome roasted malt backbone with a persistent but not overwhelming bitterness, a healthy amount of leafy herbalness, floral notes and some light citrus - but with certain notes muted and certain notes enhanced by the addition of the Cascade oils. It's a little leafier and a little more lemony. Also perhaps slightly more bitter, which is interesting given that the bittering hop addition hasn't appeared to change. Improves slightly as it warms.

Mouthfeel: They must have tweaked the mouthfeel on this one - it's fantastic. Big and pillowy, smooth and even. A little oily and resinous, but overall just great.

Drinkability: A fantastic fall treat from Blue Mountain - I was upset when I didn't have a chance to make it out to Capital Ale House last Thursday to try it on "HopHead" night, so I'm glad it followed closely at the tasting room. Cascades aren't my favorite wet-hopping hop, but the addition definitely brought a new layer of complexity to the Full Nelson, already a great APA. Recommended while it lasts.
